Guide to Negril

"Fancy a slower pace of life? One with nothing more taxing than taking in the picture postcard views? If so you'll find Negril is the ideal place to just sit back and relax."

From the moment you set foot in Negril you'll find yourself on Caribbean time. That means no longer having any reason to wear a watch, and replacing rushing around with acting like you haven't a care in the world. These common symptoms are just some of many reasons why people are attracted to this picturesque corner of Jamaica. Simply kick off your shoes, pull up a sunlounger and take it easy for the rest of the day. Located on the most westerly point of the island, Negril boasts a stunning seven-mile stretch of beach that can't fail to impress. It is also ideally situated to enjoy some of the most spectacular sunsets. In fact gathering at Rick's Cafe to watch the sun go down is something of a local institution. And who could possibly blame the locals for never tiring of enjoying a cold beer, catching up on the day's gossip and watching the sky work through various shades of glorious pink and orange. This popular cliff top bar is also the place to see brave divers leap off the high cliff edge into the bright blue water below, to the awe and amusement of a loyal audience. A host of far less terrifying water sports are also available, alongside plenty of other bars for those of you in search of the perfect rum punch.

Eating out

You will find plenty of places along both the West End and the Beach Road with a variety of cuisine on offer. Examples include the Xtabi and the Pepper Pot. However, you must pay a visit to Rick's Cafe which, as well as offering up good food, presents its customers with the best views of the sunset in this lovely region.

Nightlife

Come evening, guests make their way down to one of Negril's West End bars, some of which are perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea, allowing you to watch the breathtaking sunsets.

Shopping

Shopping opportunities are limited to hotel shops and a small selection in the town centre.

Local information

This area is mainly renowned for its splendid beach. Despite this there are still places to keep the whole family entertained. Just a short drive away is the YS Falls and Mayfield Falls, where you can walk quite literally through the water. If animals are something that grab your attention then you shouldn't go home without visiting the Black River, home to the Crocodiles or the Royal Palm Estate where the Wild Birds on show might be a little more to your liking.
