It's all about the location at the Dominicus Palace. It sits right on the edge of the sand with just a line of palm trees to break up the sea view. The beach itself is everything you'd expect from the Caribbean, with more than enough sunbeds to go round. Speaking of sunbeds, the canopied double daybeds here are a real talking point. Resting on a decked area of the beach, they look like big four-poster beds with white curtains and comfy mattresses. They're a glamorous way to find some shade.

Away from the shore, the hotel's centrepiece is a flamingo-flecked pond. All the rooms and restaurants fan out from here down to the beach. Inside, the rooms are nicely decorated in tropical brights with either a king-size or two double beds. But it's the lobby that takes centre stage. A huge expanse of shiny marble is topped with buttress-like pillars and a vaulted wooden roof. And chocolate leather sofas, flattering lighting and potted palms complete the picture.

Pool-wise, there's loads of choice within the Viva Wyndham resort. There are three pools dotted around the grounds, all flanked with sunbeds and parasols. The busiest one is by the beach and comes with a good-sized bar.

On top of that, the hotel has got even more restaurants than pools so you're spoilt for choice at mealtimes too. Mexican, Italian and Asian are all on the menu at the a la carte restaurants. But for a bit of everything, you can't beat the international buffet. Factor two bars, a dive centre and a spa into the equation and you can see the reasons to come here really stack up.

The thing that stands out the most here though is the staff. Always smiling and ready with a 'hola', they'll bend over backwards to make sure you have a great holiday.
