This hotel's all about the beach. It opens out onto sand as white as freshly fallen snow. And the water's so clear you can see your feet even when you're waist-deep. The added bonus of a coral reef makes this stretch of shoreline perfect, not only for sun-worship but for snorkelling as well.

The hotel itself looks the part, too. As Caribbean as they come, its thatched roofs peep out over a jungle canopy. And the open-fronted lobby uses stonework and wicker furniture to great effect. It's got a real outdoors-indoors feel to it. As has La Terraza beachfront buffet. With tables and chairs set out on an oceanfront terrace, it serves stellar sea views along with an international menu.

On the subject of dining, there's certainly plenty of choice here – it is All Inclusive, after all. There's a Mexican, a beach cafe and a pizzeria – complete with authentic wood-fire oven. Special mention has to go to La Roca Grill. It does a mean line in shrimp and steak and is easy on the eye: think wooden vaulted ceilings, muslin drapes and crisp white tablecloths.

On the pool front, there are three in total - all right by the beach. Plus a big whirlpool bath. What's more you can use the five swimming pools at the Dominicus Palace, just next door.

As for the rooms, they're simple, straightforward and decked out in tropical colours. They come with air-conditioning, satellite TVs and some even have little kitchens - handy if you're travelling with small children.

All in all, the Dominicus Beach is a good quality hotel with a location to die for.
