You’ll spend your days sipping cocktails at swim-up bars and sunbathing on the beach when you stay at the ClubHotel Riu Bambu.
Although the ClubHotel Riu Bambu is in a popular part of Punta Cana’s coast, it’s shrouded in 46,000 square metres of tropical gardens, so it feels pretty private.
There’s a beach right on the doorstep of this hotel. And not just any beach. The name of Arena Gorda translates as ‘fat sand’ and it’s a kilometre long.

we loved it here ... (but ...)
Perhaps there are things about the Riu Bambu that make a rating of 5/5 a little generous, but we had such a wonderful time here that it seems churlish to look for flaws. We like Riu's ClubHotel formula very much. Low-rise properties with some attention to local flavour rather than characterless international luxurious uniformity. Punta Cana is a lovely place. The weather was lovely, most of the people were really lovely, and all this was accessible within our budget. We had been here nine years ago, and were a little nervous about repeating a wonderful experience, and even though there were some small disappointments, we hope very much that we will be able to go back at least once. Staff such as Jose in Technical Services, Celestino on the front desk, Ramon in the bar, Juana who looked after our room, Issa at breakfast time and all the staff in the Mexican restaurant - (they didn't all have name tags) - and "smoothie guy" were people made looking after us seem effortless and we will remember them with affection. It is impossible to name-check or even accurately remember names of everyone who contributed to our happy stay. but we are grateful to all of the cheerful, helpful people we met. I'd be wary of persuading any undecided reader that this is a real 5-star hotel experience, but we enjoyed our stay so very much that I am reluctant to make any criticisms. We enjoyed the charm and excitement of the tropics in spring for a price not much different than we'd pay for destinations close to home. Not opulence, but not to be missed, either.More
Visited during Easter weekend which was very crowded. Would not go during Easter again. This was also preceding the day the entire resort closed for major renovations. Overall friendly staff, decent food-not great, and gorgeous beach. This resort was a mid range resort so it lacked many amenities but I knew this when I booked. Overall good stay and would return at a quieter time. More
Overall had a great time.
The room was fairly good as expected. The pool, swim up bar, children's pool, and beach were excellent. Close to each other. Plenty of chairs by poolside or at the beach. The entertainment crew was excellent, very energetic and kept us busy and entertained. The quality of food and drinks was a little lower. Most drinks were locally made. Mostly sweet cocktails. Not much choice for someone who did not like sweet drinks. Wine was not good. Good local fresh fruit and the fresh fruit purees served with breakfast. The specialty restaurants were not very good. The general dining restaurant Colonial was better. That is where we ate most of the time. The service was excellent. The staff was very hard working. Overall happy with the vacation. More
All sun and Palm Trees!!!
BEACH: Gorgeous! Beautiful blue and turquoise waters on gorgeous long stretch of beach where you can walk for miles in either direction. No rocks. Little seaweed. Gets windy so there are waves which can be fun if you bring tubes for your kids! There are tons of palm trees all around the beach and hotel grounds of this resort which is so amazing. You can always find shade if you want it and we never had issues finding chairs either. POOLS: 3 pool choices (only one has swim up bar which is always very busy) but all are 5.5 feet deep so again you need water wings or life jackets for kids that can't reach unless they are toddlers in which case you have a small waterpark area with slides and things in about one foot deep waters. Again we never really had issues finding chairs depending on which pool you preferred to be at. Waterpark: There is a huge waterpark within about a 10-15 minute walk which we all enjoyed as a family. I travelled with my 15 year old son and 8 year old daughter and we ALL had so much fun! It is open only from 10-5p.m. so walking there in the heat if you are already feeling tired can be a little cumbersome! Good news is that they have washrooms and a little area of free available self-serve drinks from the machines. They also have a separate area where toddlers and small kids can enjoy as you need to be 3'9" for the bigger area and there are MANY stairs to climb to get to the top of the slides! No jewelry (including earrings) are allowed so leave them behind if you do plan to go. ROOMS: Our "Deluxe" room was located at end of hotel block 36. You could hear the trucks going by at night and we had problems with lights and air conditioning and safe all being temperamental. We personally did not like the layout of the room as there was no real separate area for the washroom! The double sinks were outside the washrooms right beside the beds! The shower stall was separate with frosted glass doors and the toilet was in another little separate room by itself! So if you had to change in private, it had to be in the shower stall or the toilet room! Weird! Because of all our issues in this particular room Victor at front desk accommodated us by finding another room the next day which we absolutely loved and were so happy with. VICTOR was AMAZING so thank you VICTOR! He was always to kind and willing to always listen and please guests with a smile.Easy and fast HOTEL: Fast and easy check-in and check-out. No issues. Hotel itself not really big but we found it to always be clean. Starting from the beach, you then get pools then the restaurants then lobby then all the villa style rooms behind. No drinks or snacks at beach but again things are not far to get. Restaurants: Our favourite was the Italian, Steakhouse and Mexican. No reservations necessary. They open at 6:30 so if you want to eat right away, I suggest you get there by 6:45 at latest or you will be waiting especially for the Italian (others by 7). The buffet restaurant was okay. I have had better food at other hotels. I had the stomach bug on my last day there but my other family members were okay. Entertainment: Not the greatest! Much better at other hotels. I was a little embarrassed for some of the dancers! Others were ok! Late 9:45 p.m. start also did not like. Usually ended by 10:30. Kids show starts at 8. They have actives throughout the day including a kids club and little prizes handed out at night. They also have tennis courts but they too close at 5pm. and it is way too hot to play during the day and they are in full sun! I would recommend this hotel because of the beach and palm trees but I have stayed at better. They are closing for a couple of months to renovate this summer so hopefully it will only improve.More
