With its beachfront setting, great pool scene and smart bedrooms, this hotel has propelled itself into the Premier League.
The first thing you’ll notice about this place is its spectacular setting. Not only is the hotel cocooned by palm trees, but it’s pulled right up against a 14-mile sweep of sand. And as well as being prime chill-out territory, the beach is something of a watersports hub. Take your pick from the likes of windsurfing, sailing and kayaking.

Looks-wise, the property is modern and fresh. The bedrooms are kitted out with sleek furniture and huge TVs. Plus they all come with air-conditioning, minibars and RIU’s famous spirit dispensers. The hotel is home to 72 family rooms, too. Set on the ground floor and with enough space for five, they’re ideal if you’re here with kids or just want a little more space.

Elsewhere, you’ll find four à la carte restaurants – an Asian, Italian, Mexican and a Steakhouse and grill. There’s also a buffet eatery which serves pan-global spreads. Completing the hotel’s dining scene is a sports bar open 24 hours.

Lastly, the pool scene is pretty impressive. A sweeping Roman-style staircase leads into the main pool and, at one end, there’s a large, dome-topped swim-up bar. The second pool is large and has a scattering of in-water sunbeds. Palm-fringed lawns and a whirlpool bath provide the finishing touches.

Your guide to Bavaro, Dominican Rep - Punta Cana

"Fringed by ivory sands and swaying palms, Bavaro showcases the best of the Dominican Republic's spectacular coastline."

Set on the eastern tip of the island, the journey there takes you through winding country roads bordered by sugarcane fields and mangrove thickets. With all the hotels set on the silvery sand, it’s Bavaro Beach that takes centre stage here. The moment you get an eyeful of that amazing 15-mile-long white sand beach and brilliant blue sea you’ll know you’ve found a little corner of holiday heaven. This is the place to come if you’re looking to cocoon yourself in pin-drop peace and quiet. It’s simple, it’s unspoilt and it’s so relaxing you’ll never want to leave. Days here revolve mostly around sunbathing on that spectacular beach, and cooling off with a range of watersports. Come sundown, it’s a relatively low key affair kept mainly to the hotels. But if you are venturing out and about, you can spot the handful of popular hangouts a mile off. In essence, though, Bavaro, is a place to sit back, feel the warmth of the Caribbean sun and enjoy a generous dose of the famous Dominican ‘R & R’ - rum and relaxation.
