You’ll spend your days sipping cocktails at swim-up bars and sunbathing on the beach when you stay at the ClubHotel Riu Bambu.
Although the ClubHotel Riu Bambu is in a popular part of Punta Cana’s coast, it’s shrouded in metres of tropical gardens, so it feels pretty private. The hotel has had a make over ready for Summer 2017.
There’s a beach right on the doorstep of this hotel. And not just any beach. The name of Arena Gorda translates as ‘fat sand’ and it’s a kilometre long.

Okay hotel, wouldn't return
Visited here with my partner at the end of August 2016. Check in was quick and easy. We paid a little extra for the deluxe rooms which were situated towards the back of the resort, a little further to walk but not an issue! We originally had a ground floor room located to the left of the resort, maid visited every day as well as having the mini fridge filled up every day. Unfortunately on the 4th day the hot water broke in our block so we were moved to a room situated towards the very back near the main road into the resort, still a good location and quiet but maid only visited every other 2/3 days and the fridge wasn't filled up as often but could easily pop to reception to get some bottles of water! Both rooms were spacious and clean and had everything you needed! Location of the hotel was great, the beach was beautiful - exactly how I imagined it to be! If we weren't on the beach we would sit around the quieter/ smaller pool as the main pool got a little rowdy! Only thing I would say this hotel needs major improvement with was the food at the buffet. All food in the buffet was tasteless and the same stuff every breakfast and every dinner. We ate toast and doughnuts for breakfast for the whole two weeks! We ate at the steakhouse and Italian pretty much every night after our first few visits to the buffet.. the staff in both these restaurants were superb! We ate at the Mexican once but unfortunately had an upset stomach after eating here. We also ate in the Japanese restaurant once which was okay! On a lighter note the cocktails and beer was nice and the excursions we did were AMAZING. We visited island Saona through the VIP catamaran trip which was by far the BEST beach we've ever walked along. Holding the star fish in the natural swimming pool was something I will never forget. We also did the Coco bongos VIP trip, this was one of the best nights out we have both had. We paid a little over 100 dollars each and had unlimited drinks and waiter service all night, highly recommend! Weren't much to do at night other than watch the entertainment, casino or visit the Caribbean street, would have been better if there was a nice bar area to sit and drink. Holiday itself was fantastic, just a shame about the food! Would go back to Punta Cana just not in the Riu Bambu! More
Family of 10 Vacation
Our trip consisted of family members ranging in ages from 3 to 75. There was something for everyone. We spent approximately 80% of our time on the beach, which was immaculate. Whether you like sun or shade, there was plenty of room to situate. The food and drinks were excellent. Breakfast had all standard favourites, but also had a cook who made custom omelettes. I had one or 2 every morning. Each night, the buffet had a theme. The restaurants were very good as well. The staff was very friendly. The rooms were kept very well and had no issues. The layout of the property meant we had a little bit of a walk to the beach, but nothing I would complain about. The nightlife was extremely fun. The staff loved to party and the music was great. I will definitely go back. More
Good value for money but probably wouldn't return
We visited Riu Bambu from 13th-27 Jan 2017. The main highlight for us was the pool and the beach however at times the big pool can get quite loud and rowdy, especially in the afternoon but we expected that with a swim up bar! The smaller pool is a lot quieter with lots of sun loungers available. The beach is beautiful!! You do feel like you are in paradise with palm trees and clear waters. There are locals selling bits from the beach but they were no bother and very friendly. We loved that some water-sports were included in the package. The excursions were fantastic and we really recommend the Outback Safari and Saona Island. The food was OK, nothing special. Both my partner and I had stomach bugs for a couple of days and we found if we didn't eat the salad we felt better. My partner actually found a red elastic band in his food which was slightly off-putting!! We reported this to a manager who didn't really seem interested! At lunch time the tables were always dirty and never any clean cutlery around. The A La Carte restaurants were not great either with luke-warm food that had been out all afternoon (we knew this because we used to see it on our way back to our room at around 5pm already on plates to be served). The room was very average. As soon as we arrived it smelt damp and like chemicals. The bathroom is not a separate room which I don't think helped the damp. However the room was clean and towels changed regularly. You've got to remember that for the price you pay it's not going to be a luxury holiday. You've got white beaches, palm trees and the gorgeous sea and you are in the Caribbean, however the quality just isn't there and it certainly isn't a 5* hotel. We were happy with what we paid however we probably won't go back, there is too many other hotels to stay in!More
I enjoyed it a lot
It was the first time I was staying with my family at a resort, so maybe my perception is kinda poor compared to someone who's already been in plenty. The bedrooms had a lot of space and a balcony, none of them had ocean views but I kinda liked that because they respect a beautiful barrer of palms between the ocean and the hotel. The rooms and the bathrooms were clean. There were plenty of restaurants to choose from, a mexican one, a japanese one, an italian one, a steak house and the average buffet, all of them served delicious food, I've never been somewhere where I can eat all the Sushi I want (is very expensive in Colombia). Even thought there wasn't a dress code, you were not allowed to enter in swimsuit. Everyday there were beach activities, and in the night there were special shows, I didn't liked the children's show, but there are parents who enjoy that (something for everyone and that's ok) so we decided to attend the night show after the kids finished.More
