Set on the Dominican Republic’s east coast, Bavaro is a small town with 2 big selling points. First off, there are the upscale hotels which come with spas and infinity pools as standard. And then there’s the fabulous beach – a whole 10 kilometres worth of pure white sand and turquoise waters.
Bavaro is one of the world’s greatest beach strips, according to Frommers travel guide. And once you see the unspoilt white sand backed by coconut palms and mangroves, you’ll know why. Sunloungers and palm-thatched umbrellas have relaxation written all over them, while brightly painted beach shacks line up the drinks and snacks. As for watersports, jet-skiing, windsurfing and scuba diving all make it onto the itinerary.
First-class sports facilities
Bavaro lays on plenty of sporting activities in between the R&R. The hotels have their own tennis courts, with coaching on hand for those who want to perfect their top spin. Meanwhile, golfers have an 18-hole course at the Iberostate Bavaro Golf Club. And horse riding trips along the beach are really popular here too.
Daytrips to Del Este National Park
An hour’s drive from the resort takes you to Del Este National Park. This uninhabited subtropical forest is filled with over 100 types of birds, including the rare Hispaniolan parrot and brown pelican. It’s also a great place to see 2,000-year-old drawings left by the ancient Taino tribe in the tunnels and caves here.
