"Juan Dolio offers the classic Dominican recipe of great beach life and a warm welcome, washed down with plenty of Caribbean sun."
Juan Dolio is for those who like the best of both worlds. We're talking laid back and friendly. But it's also strategically located within easy reach of Santo Domingo, La Romana and Boca Chica. So, as well as all the peaceful, away-from-it-all relaxation you could ever dream of, there's also the chance for some daytrips to more lively locales. The beach is good and has safe swimming in shallow waters protected by a coral reef. When it comes to activities - apart from the usual watersports - what's on offer is mainly hotel based. However, if you're feeling a bit too relaxed, you can get the adrenalin pumping with a spin around the Go Kart Bahn racetrack, located off the highway to San Pedro. As for nightlife, most of the hotels offer live music, discos etc. Or you can go Dominican and experience the heady atmosphere of one of the local merengue bars. If you're into baseball, you simply must make the short journey to San Pedro de Macoris, home town of former White Sox big hitter Sammy Sosa. Catch a game there and you might even be lucky enough to see one of the stars of the US Big League, who often return in the off season to turn out for the 'folks back home'. Alternatively, visit the Rio Chavon area, which has more than its fair share of scenic beauty. There's an artist's colony with some great galleries. And movie fans will recognise some of the locations from 'Apocalypse Now' and the recent remake of 'King Kong'.

The wining and dining in Juan Dolio is mainly hotel based, thanks to the predominance of all-inclusive hotels and the variety they offer. The area is slowly developing however, and there are a few Italian style restaurants emerging.
Juan Dolio's nightlife is based around the hotel bars and entertainment, with shows and live music put on in the complexes. A couple of hotels also run casinos. Outside of the hotel complexes, there are a couple of independent bars, but essentially this is a laid back resort rather than a party town.
There are a few small shops dotted around the centre of the resort and along the seafront, though for real retail therapy, Santo Domingo is the place to go. The resort does have a large supermarket for your practical needs and local products such as cigars, rum and Dominican coffee.
Aside from the variety of watersports on offer at the hotel and on the beach, the Metro Golf and Country Club hosts the best 18-hole golf course in the area.
