Playa Pesquero scores top marks for its setting. Set on the edge of its namesake beach, it looks out over powder-soft sands and endless blue seas. And as the nearest big town, Guardalavaca, is a 10-minute drive away, it’s quiet and relaxed without being in the middle of nowhere.

The hotel makes a big impression, too. Topped with palm thatch, it looks right at home in its Robinson Crusoe-style surroundings. But inside, it’s more modern elegance than desert island chic. Think water gardens complete with Roman-style statues. And plenty in the way of stylish rattan furniture.
