Until the seventies Guardalavaca was just a quiet sleepy little town located on the north eastern coast of Holguin Province in the east of Cuba. How times have changed. these days it's a well-established resort with an enviable reputation. The resort is still growing, yet its current small but perfectly formed status ensures a low-key atmosphere, which for most visitors is a big part of the appeal. The star attraction remains the beach, with sand the colour and texture of caster sugar, shelving gently into warm turquoise waters. Such inviting waters account for many of the most popular past times, including sailing and scuba diving. Royal palm trees line the beach at convenient intervals offering welcome shade in which to snooze away a relaxing afternoon or a chance to read your book away from the sun's glare.
