We stayed in a regular room with a garden view but actually from the balcony it was an ocean view also! The staff were all lovely, the food very nice, the hotel grounds nicely kept, pools great, room large enough and clean. I don't have a bad word to say. Reception sorted our taxi back to airport and very reasonable price. Location is brilliant! One step out of the hotel and you're on the beautiful beach, palms trees provide shade, turtles swimming around in the ocean. Absolutely blissful. One thing I will say is that you can't really snorkel there but that was no problem to us, we caught the bus up to Folkestone Marine Park which is very nice. I would definitely stay at Southern Palms again.More
First time in Barbados
The fact that the hotel is frequented by repeat customers is testament to the incredible location, friendly staff and facilities on offer at Southern Palms. I have just returned from a first family holiday in Barbados with my husband and child. It's easy to see why people come back. I haven't doctored a single photo and these pictures represent an accurate picture of the hotel during our stay which I hope will impress future customers. Although I'd say the resort of st Lawrence Gap is geared towards adults, the children at southern palms are well catered for. There are plenty of boogie boards, inflatables and beach toys to rent (free), there's a pitch n put green, the pool area was very quiet and it is literally a one second walk to the beach. Our rooms weren't bad. A bit dated but we spent so little time in it. I think we might have been given an upgrade as I was expecting a garden room. Naturally we were delighted to get a sea view room upon arrival and that view....does not disappoint. We had a safe, kettle, iron and ironing board, hairdryer, iPhone docking station and alarm clock, to with free movie channel and spacious balcony. The beds are incredibly comfortable. The hotel does a lovely little afternoon tea (coffee and cake). They don't have to but it's a lovely touch and we got to know quite a few of the other guests. Regarding the food, I found other breakfast establishments on the Gap quite boring and over priced. Remarkably, the hotel was one of the cheaper places to have breakfast and the menu was more varied. I feel sick at the thought of more waffles and pancakes! The staff really make this place special though. Particular mention needs to be given to the lovely staff (Hazel, Chad and a couple if others but didn't catch their names) in the restaurant who were so kind and helpful to us during our stay, my daughter absolutely loved them! Edric was very helpful too, as were the lovely reception ladies. Finally, the beach is utterly amazing. Apparently, it's not the nicest beach in Barbados. We visited a few beaches and although I'd say that there's probably some truth in the fact that it's a bit more shingly with a bigger initial dip, you'd be hard pushed to find a cleaner and visually stunning beachfront. All in all, a fab stay and we would definitely return. More
No better location
This hotel is fairly basic, but rooms are clean and comfortable and the location is ideal. On one side you have the beautiful Dover beach with white sand and turquoise water there is no better view, you can also see turtles swimming just off the shore right in front of the hotel, and during nesting season they are often seen on the beach to lay their eggs. On the other side is st. Lawrence gap packed with bars and restaurants. Staff are friendly and helpful. There was an issue with the water when we arrived which apparently affected the whole street but we were provided with bottled drinking water in our rooms and facilities provided in a different area of the hotel that was unaffected to shower. This was not the hotels fault but they did everything they could to help and kept us informed on the progress of the repairs. My only complaint would be the lack of cushions for the sun lounges. There didn't seem to be many and people hide them in their rooms for the duration of their stay once they get hold of them. Maybe investing in some more would be a good idea or even renting them out? Overall another fantastic stay here, most of the other guests we spoke to were returning customers which says a lot in my opinion.More
My wife and I stayed at Southern Palms for a week on a combined business and vacation trip. What a pleasure! Our good times spanned the full range -- reservations through check out, dining / drinks at different times of the day, room attendants on the job, Britta (GM) and staff cheerfully supporting our needs -- overall, simply and excellent experience. The hotel facilities are indeed a bit tired and need a refresher, but we didn't consider this a detriment at all. In fact, the setting and the service make it all work. We will be back! Thank you. Beachfront peace and quiet
I returned recently to Southern Palms for what was my fifth or sixth visit. The beachfront location is perfect and the staff at the Hotel are always amazing. Located in St Lawrence Gap the hotel is a few minutes stroll to all the bars and restaurants and this is a perfectly safe environment for holidaymakers. The hotel remains at a very good standard and the staff are very helpful. Particular Thanks this time to Stephen who helped me with the booking and a small issue during our stay.More
