Skanes Family Resort

This hotel is right on the beach. It has a Thomson Kids’ Club, and 3 pools to pick from, too.

This huge hotel has nabbed a secluded spot, on the edge of a sandy beach. It’s geared around families – there’s a pool with colourful waterslides, and a pool just for kids. A Thomson Kids’ Club is the icing on the cake.

If you fancy exploring, it’s less than 10 minutes’ drive to Sousse’s medina and souk, and around the same distance to buzzing Monastir.

We had a wonderful holiday and the smaller resort suited us really well. The meal times were almost constant from 7:30am to 9:30pm with just one hour where nothing was available between breakfast and lunch. The bars opened later but I mostly stuck to the virgin cocktails and soft drinks but I was told that the alcohol measures were extremely generous (too much so really). My family is vegetarian and we always had at least two to four options to choose from and I found it to be really tasty. That doesn't include the always available chips and pizza. The signage on the food could have been better as I didn't try some of the salad options as I wasn't sure if there was meat or fish in them and I struggled to overcome the language barrier to ask properly. I was really pleased with the meals on offer in the main restaurant. The room was clean and well kept as was the rest of the hotel and I found the staff in the main to be pleasant. I really enjoyed my scrub in the spa at 40dn and would recommend that too. The hotel nor Thompson reps pushed you to join in the activities and in fact I wouldn't have even known they were on unless I went looking for them. The gym was basic with 2 treadmills, a bike, cross trainer and 2 rowers (one broken) and some weights machines. However it was adequate for a bit of a session each day but boy was it hot with no air conditioning but it met my needs and so I ticked that box too. The beach was close and pretty clean but do beware the jellyfish as they are quite prominent. We experienced no issues which required the intervention of the hotel staff or holiday representative, so I cannot comment on that. All in all a great holiday and a good resort.More

Tracey W,

fantastic value

we came home from a weeks stay two weeks ago , we stayed in rooms 2010 and 2009 considering there was only three of us i was amazed at how huge our rooms were . my 12 yr old had a massive double bed ,balcony and bathroom and swim up room to her self ,we had enough beds for three people in ours with huge amount of space and balcony over looking pool , the rooms are spot less ,cleaning lady was lovely always chatty and happy , the food was excellent we chose quieter times to go but still loads of choice , the hotel was full but we never had a problem getting sunbeds or tables at meal times , the entertainment was family based and the staff are very enthusiastic , we did the camel caravan which we all loved , and a free bus to the market , the driver was so lovely and helpful , we had a wonderful holiday would totally recommend it and the only dissapointment was we only went for 1 week !More

alison c,

Enjoyable family holiday

2 week stay in room 3230. Entrance to lounge, leading off to 2 bedrooms and bathroom and a very small balcony only two adults could sit on. Being the side of the hotel to quieter pool the family disco music was quite loud until 12am every night. Our toilet leaked and was fixed within the hour. There were a few power cuts 4 times when eating in the restaurant and again another night. The shops sell all fake's, if you are looking to buy an evening dress or bikini i wouldn't bother, everything is cheaper to buy in the shops, Marlborough 20 pack cigarettes 5 dt - £1.50 uk sterling, the kids inflatables, large shark, crocodile were only £8-£10 each. had a full body massage cost £20. Was very relaxing but could have been better. I recommended you bring enough uk sterling with you and change at the hotel reception, we brought £600 for 2 weeks and still took home change. I am a vegetarian and still found plenty of choice, there is a kids buffet area every evening. The only let down is no tea/coffee or milk in the room. Tunisian check in took over an hour queuing. My son was stung by a jelly fish but the life guard was quick to attend. the cleaners will only clean your room if you put the sign on the door to request. the kids games room has no air-con, got very hot. - there was 3 snooker tables, 2 pin ball machines and air hockey. I would say this resort is totally geared for kids, the kids club was well enjoyed, please do get your child to take a drink as they don't give in the 2 hour time they are there for. overall our 20 month old and 5 year old loved this holiday. the slides were awesome, our 20 month old went down the yellow and orange slide with daddy and lovedMore

skanes guests,

Slightly disappointed

Returned last Monday from fortnights holiday at Skanes Family Resort, travelled with my daughter aged 11. All staff were fantastic considering the number of hours they work and poor pay...tip generously please! Hotel/staff/facilities overall were fairly good but could definitely be improved. My main concerns being:- 1.Female toilets at quieter pool are a disgrace...5 cubicles of which 3 were locked and marked for 'housekeepers use only'. The 2 available for use were always swimming with water due to improper use of bidet hoses so take extra care! 2.As previous reviewers have already noted...take extra care poolside as it is slippery. 3.The main restaurant buffet area is very small considering the number of guests. There are some cooking stations for specifics but not enough area to queue separately which means a long wait! 4.My daughter succumbed to the apparent generic ear infection (never had one before) which put a huge dampener on our second week unfortunately but the service provided by the doctor was excellent. 5.Slightly irked that the tea/coffee/milk/sugar in the room was never replenished but easily solved with 'help yourself at breakfast time'. 6.The 2 souvenir shops don't accept credit card payments. BUT.... 1.We went on 2 trips courtesy of Allababa....Pirate Ship and Camel Ride...both were fantastic! 2.The rooms were lovely and cleaned daily. 3.Entertainment at the Amphitheatre was good. 4.Staff are extremely helpful throughout. Enjoy the experienceMore

Louise W,

LOVED IT! Would go back for the entertainment and facilities I 100%

Everything you need to know - Everyone is so welcoming, would come back for the entertainment, facilities and the lovely people! Travel & check in: flight time is great less than 3 hours, you don't have to pay a fee to get into the country like some. Check in was easy, we arrive in the early hours of the morning and they kindly opened the restaurant which was great. Bedrooms: stayed in a double bunk bed room, bedrooms we're lovely and clean but the bathroom didn't meet the same expectations, bath did tend to leak most days. Food: didn't sit well with me, did have an upset stomach along with my partner but the kids and my dad we're not affected what so ever and really enjoyed the food so much choice every day. We'd always come in the restaurant quite late so we'd always have to ask for some one to set up a table as there isn't always cutlery out. The unlimited ice cream all afternoon into the evening was great for the kids! The Indian restaurant looked lovely, wish I found out how to book earlier (you book at reception) Facilities: AMAZING! You'd never get bored with the amount of things to do around the pool, the reps we're always trying to get everyone involved! The kids loved party around the pool at 4:00 and the slides kept them busy all day long, they're is also some great games at lunch time where you can win a top dog t-shirt. The beach is literally on your door step, we went on the jet ski's and they we're amazing so much fun I want to do it all over again. I also took a trip to the spa, it was lovely and so relaxing the ladies take such great care of you in there. Night entertainment: LOVED IT! Little pups to start the night with which was great for the kids, then bingo on every night, then the pre show game show which was hilarious and got everyone involved and then the main show which is something different every night, African acrobats we're amazing along with the panto show the reps put on such a laugh! Trips: I went on the catamaran & shopping trip, it suits the kids as well as the adults. It was lovely to go in the sea and see the fish from the bottom of the catamaran! You spend 2 hours on the catamaran so bare that in mind if your kids get a little sea sick because it does get very hot at times. You don't get enough time shopping so be quick and stay in the government shop as the prices are great and you do not get ripped off. Alli baba pirate boat trip was said to be overrated, we was told by the reps it would be very unlikely that you'd see a dolphin like he said, he became very offended when we said we was going on another trip and turn it around to say we didn't like him which we found quite rude! Turn him away whilst you can as he will keep coming back to you if you say you might want to come back! You do get towels so no need to bring your own! More
