Skanes Family Resort’s family-friendly credentials start with its location. The hotel is set on the edge of a sandy beach, so little ones can be building sandcastles within seconds of getting out of bed in the morning.
Speaking of beds, the hotel is being refurbished to offer a room type for almost all family set ups. There will be Family rooms where a main bedroom connects to a smaller room with bunk beds. And there will be suites, which sleep up to 6 people. What’s more, both of these types of rooms can be upgraded to include a shared pool.
Elsewhere, there are plenty of other swimming spaces to choose from. There are 5 pools in total, 2 of them are just for the kids, and one comes with 6 different kinds of waterslide.
After the refurbishment, there will be opportunities to eat and drink all over the hotel. In addition to the main buffet restaurant and 3 a la cartes, there will be a Moorish café, where you’ll be able to drink tea.
The hotel will take its evening entertainment seriously, too. There’ll even be an amphitheatre with a stage and full lighting rig, where you can watch some great entertainment.

Good, chilled out holiday for 2 single women
Chilled , weather mixed for this time of year , food ok , lots of families , no other single people . Still enjoyed the Craic. Not impressed with waiter (age 27) offering extras in toilet on our last night. Not that desperate .... More

A great family holiday
We went to Skanes in September 2013 with our two young children (3 & 1) and we loved it. It is a very big hotel with lots to do. The waterpark was great fun (although cold water in September!). As the other reviews state, yes the floor is a little slippery around the pool so just get your kids to be sensible and walk. The part of the beach belonging to the hotel is fantastic, clean soft sand and gently slopping water into the sea. Perfect for kids. If you wander outside of the hotels area though you do start to see a lot of rubbish and tat. But this is Tunisia, if you want somewhere that is clean and well looked after, don't go to an African country, or just stay in the hotel grounds. The food was great, very varied through the week. Even managed to find things for my fussy 3 year old. In the reviews I read it mentioned flies on the food in the restaurant, but we didn't see any. The problem we had with flies was eating outside. But again it's Africa, they have flies, there isn't much you can do about that. Our room was nice, kept clean and no issues. The staff were friendly and helpful. The staff were always working to keep the place looking good. The main thing I would say is that if you are looking for a hotel where you can stay and entertain your kids all day then this is a great place. If you like to go out and about and explore then it's probably not right for you as there is nothing within walking distance around the hotel. There are trains that run close by though. Monastir is not a well kept area though, so if you like places that look nice, this might not be for you.More

Lovely family holiday
Our family had gone to Skanes family resort for two weeks at half term holidays in October 2013. We were dreading going on holiday as probably read too many reviews. Only to find that most of them were very negative for no reason. Well the comments about Thomson evening entertainment were true, it was truly was utter rubbish! On arrival we received a fantastic reception, greeted with a refreshing non-alcohol cocktail. Our room allocation was given very quickly as with our luggage taken to our room. We had an interconnecting room, and would have to say, that if you have a family it is well worth paying for the extra space. Our room had a queen bed, which was very comfy and the kids room had two singles. Both rooms were a mirror image of each other except the beds. Our vue was if the pool and the sea. Didn't see anyone use their swim up pool, what a waste. Glad I never booked that type of room as the other pools and beach are great. All meals were generally good, they had themed nights every night in the restaurant, which was great. There is also another restaurant that you can book a table, we never tried it as were happy with the main restaurant. There was a lovely waiter called "Ben" who delivered a great service to my family and relatives. We all had a tummy upset of some kind, but only lasted a couple of days. I had a bite or something on my heal that I had to go to doctor in hotel, ended up with injections. The beach was lovely with a great snack bar, and excellent service. The pool was excellent, spent most of the time at the pool with the water slides, these turned out to be a godsend to our holiday. My children are 7 &10 yrs old, they tried the Thomson Kids club, but "they felt too old for?!" The club was more geared up for 5yr olds. Thomson reps have a little dance every afternoon around the pool, the kids loved that. There is quieter pool nearer the beach entrance. Thomson evening entertainment was very poor, I couldn't put my finger on it at first but soon realised what it was, it was simply the energy around the entertainment team didn't exist! I have never experienced this from a Thomson holiday, as always have enjoyed it in the past in various countries. Ali Babba is a bit of a pain, but means well. We tried all his excursions, great value for money, especially the pirate boat trip. Hotel is very secluded, you can also feel that it's too much hassle to leave the hotel. There is a noddy train every day. Beware of the taxi's, the fare can vary and you do feel you could get ripped off easily, but you really have to haggle. If you book a taxi via reception be careful as you will get ripped off! Same with the little shops in the hotel. Also, make sure you check your money when exchanging, and get a receipt. The staff are very friendly, helpful and make the hotel a good experience.More
