Skanes Family Resort

This hotel is right on the beach. It has a Thomson Kids’ Club, and 3 pools to pick from, too.

This huge hotel has nabbed a secluded spot, on the edge of a sandy beach. It’s geared around families – there’s a pool with colourful waterslides, and a pool just for kids. A Thomson Kids’ Club is the icing on the cake.

If you fancy exploring, it’s less than 25 minutes’ drive to Sousse’s medina and souk, and around the same distance to buzzing Monastir.

Overall nice family break away

Overall a nice break, we took our 9, 6 and 2 year old away along with their cousins and grandparents. Cannot fault the Thomson reps in the slightest, they were brill! We went into sousse and monister for some bargain shopping and they prepped us with all that we needed to know regarding prices and taxis etc, these are very good for souvenirs and fake handbags but we didn't take the children and glad we didn't, if you don't like being hassled then don't leave the complex! The kids didn't really use the kids club, only for the Halloween party as they were happy around the pool and beach, it's lovely because the beach is onto down some steps. Only thing I found about the activities for children was that it didn't really say where each thing was happening and so we missed a few by the time we had trekked around looking for it! The pools were clean and the cleaners work day and night, all the staff were so friendly and caring, cannot fault them for that at all, the room was cleaned daily with fresh towels and linen. The manageress is fantastic, speaks really good English and very helpful. We had to use the nurse and doctor whilst out there and they were both brilliant. Food was lovely, restaurant clean and very good variety, drinks in terms of fruit juice isn't great , I wish I had taken some squash with me for the children! Beach is really lovely with camel rides at 3.00 per person. They have photographers that will take your group photos etc, these were reasonable but they do take a lot so takes time. If you decide on a boat trip whilst out there then choose carefully as they have Ali baba on site in the hotel offering his deals but Thomson have one they use for their excursions. We opted for the Thomson one which was good, ( the kids enjoyed this far more than the adults) but have a few bits we were not impressed with! They have dance music really really loud from beginning to end which I have to say on the top deck was AWFUL and not relaxing at all! The boat is very rough and tips a lot, not unsafe but made a few of us feel very sick. He went out to look for dolphins and we saw a few in the sea however the music was that loud I think we scared them away! They used some sort of face paint on our children's faces which actually burnt my sons face leaving a bright red mark on the side! Looked like henna but not entirely sure! I have no idea about Ali babas boat trip so might me worth finding out before hand. Some people we spoke to were impressed with his but Thomson don't like to promote him as he tells porkies and your not covered by Thomson insurance, it's a tough one. The slides were really good, kids lovely them and can go down with an adult. Holiday was pricey in half term but then they always are!I would go back but not at the end of the season as the hotel was shutting down most of the week and it got emptier and emptier, although that was nice in a way. The transfer from the airport was lengthy but soon passed. It's an eye opener as it's a very poor country and you see how they really live. There is no cashpoint on site so you have to take money with you ( if you can) or have to go over to the local airport 10 mins walk away to the cash point there. Beach was very secure and we felt safe, they have kayaks that you can use free of charge which were good and other beach activities like paragliding and ringos. They have a bar and snack bar on the beach too which was a god send. One thing that really put us off was that they have a big bonfire locally, I'm not sure how often this is but they literally burn what ever they like and it was thick smoke that smelt like burning plastic! The whole hotel smelt and it was difficult to go outside. This lasted well into the next morning! Also they smoke in the hotel and shops there but this was mainly the staff rather than tourists. Overall the flight time and flight was Thomson was very pleasant and our two year old was as good as gold on the plane.we would probably go back however we like to try something new :) Hope this helpful to you. I don't normally write reviews but thought I would this time. This hotel has the potential to be great but is let down by a number of the things. The good points: Food is one of the best I've had at an AI hotel Plenty of space around the pool(no need to get up extra early) The staff who are looking for tips can't do enough for you, a couple of dinar goes a long way Good facilities in the rooms The hotel will do your washing (at a cost) You are given a decent size glass for you drink Daytime entertainment-my 12 yr old son was kept busy with different activities (mario is fab) The night time entertainment is o.k, they try there best and work long hours Bad point: The hotel isn't near anything so your stuck there unless you pay a taxi somewhere The room we were allocated didn't have a balcony, we paid to upstage to a balcony and ended up with a room full of ants and air con that didn't work Poor selection of drinks-the pool bars only give you wine, beer and their disgusting effort at a cocktail The bar staff have no sense of a que and serve anybody, regardless of how long you've been waiting There was a storm the first 3 days (not hotels fault) but all ground floor apartments ended up flooded Always flies flying about the buffet restaurant Steakhouse was closed Some of the reception staff were useless and unhelpful, when they couldn't understand you they just walked away All in all it was an o.k holiday, wouldn't return in a hurry though. Amazing place and will definitely go back!!

All I can say is we went to tunisia for the first time, very dubious but the hotel was so helpful and relaxed us straight away! I've noticed a lot of people have complained about the little things.. Well all I can say is we had an amazing time and please do not listen to the bad reviews, if you want to go tunisia then go here!! All staff are amazing, they run around after you, the restaurant staff in the main all inc restaurant are prob the rudest and did make me feel on edge when on my own however all the rest inc the life guards are brill!! Please do not listen to the silly complaints.. If you want 5* then go pay for 5* this is a good 4* and worth every penny we paid!!More

Jennifer F,

Never again!

I stayed at this hotel in June with my Husband, Mother in-law, 2 nieces and my 4 children. There was not much to do if the weather was not good, the staff were very rude even when you tip them they would not even say "thank you" they would just snatch it off you, The food was very repetitive! The main reason my holiday was ruined was that I walked in on the cleaner with her hands in my handbag! I don't know what she would of taken if I never seen her. I will never be visiting this hotel again.More

Great week away with the family

Me my husband and my 6yr old son visited this hotel for a week 19th-26th October. The weather was lovely and warm apart from 2 days that were cloudy and very windy but didn't dampen our spirits. The hotel was great the food was plentiful and lots of variety, I am a picky eater and I didn't struggle to eat once. My little boy struggles a bit at breakfast so I just took a variety pack of cereals. Slides and pools were brill for our little one he loved them and went on every one. He went to kids club a few times and loved it everyone in there really friendly and chatty. He was asking to go so that's saying something!! Staff at the hotel were brill always trying to please you and so helpful, nothing too much trouble. A small tip goes along way and you will be looked after for the duration of your holiday. Hotel is really clean they really are on top of it here. Went on pirate boat trip and quad biking trip with Alibabba and these were good fun and worth the money. Only downside is you are out of the way at this hotel there is nothing to do outside the complex in fact it looks like barut. Monistar airport is 10 min walk away so quick and easy to get your stamps for leaving the country. All in all for a week to chill and eat good food and kids to play will return. More
