Like a tiered wedding cake, the Marhaba Palace is incredibly grand. All whitewashed, its arched balconies and jutting latticework windows conjure up a real feeling of North Africa. Step inside and you’re greeted by an almost cathedral-like atrium. But there’s more to this place than just good looks. There’s the location to consider.
The hotel looks out over a ribbon of gorgeous golden sand. Wander through the gardens past the apostrophe-shaped swimming pool down to the shore. All thatched beach brollies and aquamarine seas, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were in the Caribbean here. Simply unfurl your beach towel, smooth on some sun cream and laze the day away sifting soft sand through your fingers. But that’s not all on the location front.
There are two golf courses really close by. Plus, it’s just a five minute stroll to the marina at Port El Kantaoui, where you’ll find plenty in the way of cafés and restaurants, while the souks and bazaars of Sousse are about seven kilometres away.
But you don’t have to go into town for a taste of Tunisia. The hotel has got its very own Moorish café - complete with low seats, cushions and hubbly-bubbly pipes - and now and again lays on belly dancing, snake charmers and folklore shows. The American bar, meanwhile, offers up an altogether different atmosphere and is the setting for occasional live music.
Entertainment aside, there’s lots in the way of facilities at this hotel, too. Enjoy a knock about on the tennis courts. Set your pulse racing with a round of squash. Or perhaps just take five in the whirlpool bath. If relaxation tops your to do list, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s also a sauna here, as well as therapeutic pools and massage treatments.
Food-wise, you can pile your plate high at the tempting buffets or grab a bite to eat down at the beachfront barbecue and pizzeria. If you want to splash out, there’s also a swanky à la carte restaurant. Overall, the Marhaba Palace is a real all-rounder of a hotel. And it’s great value for money. What more could you ask for?
