Riad Kniza

They say the best things come in small packages and that's certainly true of this gorgeous little Moroccan gem. The Riad Kniza dates back to the 18th century and has been lovingly restored by some of Morocco's most talented craftsmen. It's all Moorish arches, intricate wood carvings and Arabesque mosaics – just what you want from a Moroccan escape. The property was designed by Mr Bouskri who has spent the last 30 or so years working as a professional guide, showing off this exotic city. What's more he's one of the city's most renowned antique dealers and it certainly shows in the decor. Beautiful art adorns the walls. Traditional African jewellery's been scattered thoughtfully around the place. And rare vases pose importantly from behind glass-fronted cabinets.

All together, there are eleven rooms and suites built around an open-air courtyard that echoes with the soothing sound of a splashing fountain. Each one's different and, as you can probably imagine, they're all beautifully laid out. The food here is really something, too. Look out on the snow-dusted peaks of the Atlas mountains as you tuck into Moroccan specialities prepared to perfection. Days are best spent relaxing in the open-air lounge that's scattered with big comfy cushions. Or wandering out into the medina itself - the Riad Kniza's tucked right in the heart of the medina and so the souk markets are just a few minutes' walk away.
