Kololi is the largest and liveliest resort on Gambia's Atlantic Coast. As a result, it's also got the least traditional feel, with international hotels, bars, cafes and restaurants serving up a largely cosmopolitan experience. That said if you're looking for a holiday that's heavy on sun and fun, this could be just the place. The sand and shingle beach has suffered from erosion in the past, but has recently been renovated and extended to provide a pleasant spot for swimming and watersports. It's also backed by a few cafes and bars where you can take a break from the sunbathing and sip a cool beer or a fruit juice in the shade. As for nightlife, Kololi has several discos that stay open into the early hours. And if you fancy a flutter, there's a casino - which has roulette, poker, blackjack and fruit machines, plus a bar to drown your sorrows if Lady Luck doesn't smile on you. Kololi's other claim to fame is the Bijilo Forest Park, a small wildlife reserve on the coast, just a short walk from the centre of the resort. It's enchanting and well worth a visit, offering delightful walking trails of varying lengths through lush, tropical scenery, populated by monkeys and colourful birds. Alternatively, if you're a keen golfer, you can have a reasonable round at the 18-hole Fajara Golf Club, just a short taxi ride along the coast to the north. Mind you, with the local climate not kind to grass, you'll have to put up with 'browns' instead of 'greens'!
