An introduction to Golden Beach
The Golden Beach couldn't be more aptly named. Exactly what it says on the tin, it sits on unspoilt sands that instantly put you in holiday mode. But being just paces from the soft stuff isn't its only location plus point. It's also close to the beautiful Bijilo Nature Reserve, which makes perfect walking territory. And although it's wonderfully peaceful here, you're not too far off the beaten track. In fact, it's within easy walking distance of the Senegambia strip – a strip of shops, bars and eateries. Plus you're well placed for a day trip to the capital, Banjul.
Of course, once guests check in at the Golden Beach, they fall under the hotel's spell. For starters, it's as friendly as they come. Nothing is too much trouble for the smiley staff. And then there are the grounds. Gorgeously green, they're filled with landscaped lawns and crowds of palm trees. So there are plenty of quiet shady spots dotted about. And taking centre stage is the figure-of-eight pool. Sunk into a terrace which looks out over the beach, it's accessorised with sun beds and parasols. There's a handy pool bar on the side, too.
Away from sunbathing and swimming, there's beach volleyball, table tennis and bicycle hire on offer. And golfers can head to the local course, just 15 minutes away. Or to escape from the sun, head indoors. Light, bright and airy, the Golden Beach is just as lovely inside. With cool tiled floors, potted plants and splashes of African colour, it's as welcoming as the staff. The Sally Restaurant is classy yet casual, and its international menu can't fail to wake your taste buds up. And the bedrooms are spacious and modern with cream washed walls, satellite television and a private balcony with sea or garden views.
They say the best things come in small packages – and that's certainly true of the Golden Beach. What it lacks in size, it makes up for in every other aspect.
