I can go both ways with my review. We stayed here in February of 2014 with the family in a rush to catch some sun before the Dutch weather would drive us to depression. We shopped around a lot, but figured at the price we were offered we couldn't go wrong.
For the price, the hotel's amazing. The apartment we had bordered at the pool (we had a stroller, so it was worth asking for a ground floor apartment). The food was good enough, we always found something for our young kids, and although it was relatively cold in February (days started at 20 degrees celsius), we could sit at the pool every day. Also, the lobby is the best thing about this place. Around 19:00 fresh cocktails are served and people really dress up for the occasion (Russians, more about them later).
The rooms were a little run down, but we had no complaints in that department. Also, the kiddie disco was pretty fun for the kids and worked fair enough. There was a bit of a funky smell in that hall, we must add.
If there's anything we can complain about (besides the Russians, who add their own kind of flavor by drinking beers from 10am, but they were funny if anything else) it's the service. The staff do everything for you with a smile, but there's nothing genuine about it. It's a large hotel, so it's hard to build up a personal relationship with anyone. People serve you with a smile, but there's nothing real about it. It'd go as far as to say the tourists are not "liked" by the staff, making the whole experience somehow surreal. Apparently tipping is a way to convince staff to like you, but it's hard to tip when all food and drinks are free.
And I guess it all makes sense too: if you want the real Egypt experience, what are you doing on a compound?
Will we go again? Probably not. But if you really want a great hotel, beautiful pools, and the real "compound experience", it works.More

Arrived home Weds hotel due to close today Friday, they should never ever have let anyone stay here while they undergo renovations and then not bother to clean anywhere ,
The Pools are really filthy and with some you cannot see the bottom ,god help a child that might fall in you would not find them, i am so glad i did not come here with my grandchildren.
The staff when we first got here two weeks ago were really good waiters ,bar staff, etc but after week one they all went to other hotels.Because of the way we were treated we would never return which is a shame as i understand this was a really nice Hotel and many people have been here again and again over the years.
The travel agent Sunsave should have informed us and we would never have booked this.as most of the facilities were closed in the Hotel forcing us to find alternative means of dining and entertainment.More
Renovations at Grand Azure
I have recently returned from Grand Azure and was totally shocked that it was undergoing renovations that i was not made aware of. My Travel agent Travelrepublic.co.uk despite knowing did not tell me that the hotel was being renovated and that most of the facilities were closed in the hotel. If I had of known I would have changed my booking. This is the 5th and worst time I have stayed at this hotel. All previous stays have been excellent. My advice is to stay clear of the hotel until further notice. All comments below refer to the hotel now and not as it has been in the past.More

Thomson are bang out of order for even letting us go there. 3 quarters of it is closed and even though I demanded to be moved (which to be fair they did) I don't no how they even dare let us go there in the 1st place let alone charge us for going. We went there 3 years ago and it was awesome so that's why we went back. But talk about a shock!!! there was only 40 English in the hotel and I was told nearly all of them was going out to eat. There was only 1 pool open which was disgusting. Russians and Egyptians was given priority over English. Only 400 in the hotel and they have let it go to ruin. They say they upgraded us to a junior suit which no one had stayed in the room for 2 to 3 weeks (we asked the cleaner) but you could tell as it smelt fusty and I got bit to hell. Thomson should have known about all of this but I feel really let down by them and if I hadn't already booked for next year then I don't think I would have ever gone again with them as I feel robbed of my money. We got moved like I said and we went to Royal albatross moderna which was amazing so at least some thing come out of it ok but like I say I feel really let down that we was allowed to go to Tropicana in the 1st place.More
such a shame
came back on 29/09/14, we stayed in this hotel last may and absolutely loved it, which is why we returned. absolutely fantastic staff in this hotel, the cleaner who did our room was fantastic, his towel art was amazing. when we booked this hotel we didnt know that it was closing and that it had new owners... so we were a bit dissapointed in the fact that some parts of the hotel had already closed down. also it was very quiet because they were obviously not taking any more bookings. the food was lovely but the drinks could have been colder and ice was scarce. i feel very sorry for the staff who didnt seem to know if they would still have a job when the hotel shut. part of the reason we returned to this hotel was because of the staff. the fountains pool was definately in need of some tlc. flaky paint and scum on the bottom was not very pleasent. we mostly stayed round the dolphin pool which seemed a lot cleaner. i would love to go back to see what the new refurbished hotel looks like but to be honest if the current staff have been sacked the ambience just wouldnt be the same. such a shame because the hotel is only as good as its staff...More
