The Sol Y Mar Sharks Bay offers up contemporary rooms and All Inclusive dining. There's a large pool, too, and a shuttle bus that'll run you down to the hotel's private beach.

This hotel opened its doors in 2009, so it has a modern, fresh feel. The bedrooms are a case in point – they’re cool and contemporary, decorated in stylish light pastel colours. Slick touches include air-conditioning, satellite TVs and minibars.

Outside, this low-level hotel fans out around a good-sized swimming pool. If you’re coming in the winter months, it’s worth pointing out the pool’s heated at this time of year. The surrounding sun terrace is decked out with cushioned loungers and the fledgling palms are beginning to take shape. If you prefer the beach, the hotel runs a shuttle service down to Naama Bay and private beach.

On the food front, it’s an All Inclusive affair – with breakfast, lunch and dinner taken care of, buffet-style. If you like a lie-in, you’ll be pleased to know the hotel lays on breakfasts up until 11.00 in the morning. Plus, afternoon tea is part of the package. And if you fancy a seafood supper under the stars, there’s also an outdoor à la carte restaurant here - it’s worth paying that little bit extra for.

The pool wraps around part of the building giving it an unusual shape. It's surrounded by a terrace aligned with sunbeds and parasols. The pool is heated in winter.

A nice place!

We booked this last minute.Its 5 mins from the airport,so a very quick transfer.Dont let this aspect deter you though,the air traffic noise is hardly noticeable.Check in was fast,and as we arrived just before dinner,we were shown to our room,had a drink and then headed for the dining room.We had had a long day travelling (awake since 4am)so we went to bed at 10pm.However as our room was close to the main building,the noise from the sound system kept us awake.The following day my husband asked if we could be moved,and later that day,we were shown our new room,which was located at the back of the hotel.This was an upgrade to a "suite"and a huge thankyou to the manager,as it was very kind of him.The food was very nice,with plenty of choice,and a nice choice of either sitting outside or in.We had lovely pizza's from the poolside bar for lunch on some days.The animation team work very hard,and we thought it was nice they took the time to speak to us and all the other guests.There is a choice of good activities,pool aqua,yoga,volleyball and so on. The hotel offered cocktails before dinner,I think twice on our 10 day stay which was a lovely gesture. Can I please make a suggestion?The music starts up at 10am each day,and apart from a break during lunch service,is on all day until I think 5pm.It would be quite nice to have the music staggered more often for those who perhaps like some peace and quiet during their stay.We did go to the sister hotel Jaz Belvedere using the free mini bus which is handy,and its also a great hotel.Saw some amazing fish off the floating jetty so do take the time to have a look! I think for us,although the hotel is really great,we really missed our walks we would normally be doing after meals. The staff are exceptional,and go out of their way to ensure everyone is looked after and has a fab time.All the staff mentioned how nice the manager is,and that speaks volumes to us. A special mention to the cleaning staff who do a fantastic job.Can I also mention the guy who cleans the dining room floor and pool toilets?He did a brilliant job.More

We have just got back from two weeks at this hotel .on arrival we were given a room .unpacked to get a phone call to ask us to move because they said the door wouldn't lock.we moved along .the rooms were cleaned everyday but the floors were never mopped.we got a lot of mozzie bites the first night so they sprayed the room .that stopped them up untill two nights before we left .we were spraying ourselves and the room every night .the pool is lovely and the entertainment team were great .(sorry to see you had been replaced and not being able to say good bye ) the food was ok .found something different to eat most nights and the staff there were nice .the only problem we had was the drinks .we are lager drinkers to be told every night they had ran out of it .the bar staff come round trying to give you strong shots so you get drunk and wouldn't notice the poor quality of the drinks .when they did have lager it was watered down .so much it was horrid and was being sent back.because we complained we started to feel victimised .we ordered two lagers at the pool to sip it and it was half full with Vodka!! As soon as we sipped it we knew it had been spiked .my friend has poor health and this could have caused her a lot off problems .(I think this was so out of order for staff to do this ) what if they do it too young girls? .so we complained again.didnt feel that the complaint was took serious .the bar staff were clearly taking the piss .we made some nice friends at this hotel and one friend went to the pool bar to order us all drinks which she did .when the drinks were delivered ours didn't arrive .victimised again we felt and our friends thought it to.on the night time a friend ordered two drinks .we were sat with them .the bar man brought them to the table and put one down and started talking to her whilst tipping the other drink down me.when I said your spilling the drink down me he was abusive saying WHAT WHAT.!! I was so upset by this and ended in tears .id really had enough .after that they started to creep but the lager was still watered down un drinkable .two days before we were leaving we were told the problem with the drinks had been sorted and it was better but our holiday had been spoilt by all the events . I didn't know if it was because we were two women on our own. I will never know !! The day we were leaving (1st march) there suddenly a new animation team and we were told the hotel had changed hands that day . So I think that's why the shortage of the drinks . Trying to make it last . But if so that isn't on as we still paid all inclusive and didn't get that service . It's such ashame our holiday was as it was as we met some amazing friends . English ones !the hotel has no shops to walk out too . Everything is a bus ride away or taxi . I would not recommend this hotel and will be making an official complaint to Thomson . Another thing I heard the staff asking guest to right good reviews on trip adviser !! More

Happy Hotel

just spent a week at sol y mar sharks bay , i can`t believe people have complained about this little gem , you get so much for so little , the staff from all departments are all very attentive from management to the pool attendants to the cleaners , i was in 227 and had mohammed cleaning our room who was more than a cleaner , if you had a problem he would sort it from a cold shower to coffee sachets , top bloke saeed in the restaurant along with all the other staff looked after us very well and looked appalled if you got up to make yourself a drink , michael , mohammed and ahmed were 3 top lads in the bar who quickly knew what you wanted so you were never without a drink bobosh and ahmed were 2 natural young entertainers who bounced off each other very well , whenever they were about there was laughter , unfortunately ahmed was leaving as we were . hope this doesn`t affect the hotel , 4 young eastern europeans were taking over the animation as we left food was of an ok standard you would never be hungry here , beer was fine i dont drink spirits or wine and the consensus of this was hit and miss sometimes it was ok others it wasn`t overall it is a great hotel with a great atmosphere and will def return next feb and have already recommended itMore

Fantastic holiday

Just returned from Sol Y Mars sharks baystayed for 10 days . On arrival the check in was quick and efficient everyone very helpful, we were allocated room 228 special thanks to Iberham at reception who took our cases to the room but also was very helpful throughout the holiday to help with anything at all . Our friends followed us out 3 days later and he made sure they were allocated rooms in the same block so we were all together. Rooms are kept clean and are done daily, thanks to Salem who took care of our rooms in our block. Just one thing need to be a bit more generous on coat hangers were had 4 in our wardrobe, but asked for more and they arrived in our room that same day. The Resturant food is excellent I'm a fussy eater but managed to always find something, good mix of foods from meat to fish, salad ,pasta dishes done fresh while you wait, hot food counter, the staff work very hard and cannot do enough for you drinks are served to you ,I love my coffee in the morning so special thanks goes to Mohamed for my special coffees every day. The Bar staff work very hard they are working at the pool bar through the day and upstairs bar in the evening, we had many laughs with them and were never without a drink sometimes arrived at your table without even asking. Special thanks to Ahmed ,Michael & Mohamed for looking after us during our stay. Animation team Bobosh and Achmed are fantastic got everyone involved around the pool throughout the day and put on good entertainment for the evening which was upstairs near the bar on the rooftop weather permitted . Special thanks for making our holiday Bobosh & Achmed your entertainment you always gave 100% and very professional best animation team I have ever seen at any hotel, good luck to you both as you move on due to new team moving to the hotel. To sum up the holiday overall , hotel great small & friendly ,food great , staff helpful, had a fun filled relaxing 10 days and would definitely returnMore

Another fantastic holiday here!

Came and stayed here for February half term. Booked flights direct with Monarch and booked room direct via email with the hotel means no middle man! This is the 3rd time we have stayed here at the Sol Y Mar and it just gets better. The food is always so good, varied and tasty, All the staff are polite, helpful and fun too! Spa treatments are always good, see Mahir for details! We book trips though Yousef (company = Tasnem) who comes around the pool daily and has a desk by reception, will always give you a good deal. The same quality and regulations as Thomson trips so do not be put off booking through this local agent! Enjoyed meeting up with friends from previous visits and watching the much improved evening entertainment - The Spinning Man was brilliant as were the Fire Dancers! Visited Farsha a cafe/bar set in the cliffs, lovely drinks after a day in the sun (about 15mins in a taxi) well worth a trip to for a couple of hours.More
