This hotel opened its doors in 2009, so it has a modern, fresh feel. The bedrooms are a case in point – they’re cool and contemporary, decorated in stylish light pastel colours. Slick touches include air-conditioning, satellite TVs and minibars.
Outside, this low-level hotel fans out around a good-sized swimming pool. If you’re coming in the winter months, it’s worth pointing out the pool’s heated at this time of year. The surrounding sun terrace is decked out with cushioned loungers and the fledgling palms are beginning to take shape. If you prefer the beach, the hotel runs a shuttle service down to Naama Bay and private beach.
On the food front, it’s an All Inclusive affair – with breakfast, lunch and dinner taken care of, buffet-style. If you like a lie-in, you’ll be pleased to know the hotel lays on breakfasts up until 11.00 in the morning. Plus, afternoon tea and late-night snacks are all part of the package. And if you fancy a seafood supper under the stars, there’s also an outdoor à la carte restaurant here - it’s worth paying that little bit extra for.

Have just returned from my fourth visit to Sol Y Mar - loved it as much as the first time! It is a very friendly hotel where the staff are always smiling and willing to go the extra mile and as a result the visitors are also smiling and often chat amongst themselves. Most of the rooms have a pool view and the food, tho typical of all inclusive, is well presented. Entertainment is basic but sufficient and the evening entertainment is well attended in the upstairs all inclusive bar area but finishes at 11.30 - essential as the sun rises at 7.00 in the winter months and sets at 16.00! An improvement this year is the internet availability - all rooms have a basic allowance - enough to cover facebook and emails - which is accessible in reception area. Just a note not related to Sol Y Mar - beware at the airport, on arrival staff will try to insist you buy a £10 visa - it is not necessary unless you are leaving the area. I would be very happy staying at the hotel on my own but out and about might be more daunting for a single woman. I will be back for ny fifth visit in 2014 - says it all!More

Great value for money. Excellent staff.
Right firstly if your on a lemonade budget never expect a champagne lifestyle so dont be a snob. This holiday worked out at just £50 per day including flights, transfers, insurance, all drinks 12 hrs a day, all food 12 hrs a day. The lager was like in my local club the wines were fine as were the cocktails and shorts, I know I drunk enough. Dont forget your not at home and who can grumble if your evening meal is a four course option. Typical choice all in the same evening steak, roast chicken, beef bourginoin, fish, pasta dishes and more. The worst meal I had all week, was when we went out one evening to theHard Rock Cafe in Nabq, including taxis and a beer two course cost me just shy of £100. I recently spent a weekend b&b in Blackpool this was £30 per night and included nothing. I even had to drive myself and pay for food fuel and drinks. I spent more that weekend than in my ten days in Egypt. If you want to be on the beach pay on the beach prices at the Hilton, Marriot etc. Theres a free shuttle bus to the beach and Nama bay. The hotel taxi service is excellent and reasonable. All the staff are wonderfull, I misplaced a bag with a Tag watch s3 phone and polo sunglasses about £1900 quids worth. This was handed in by a member of staff and returned to me. How good is that from staff who obviously earns very little. The pool is great also heated in winter months. The rooms were cleaned every day and in good order. We met some great people who also thought the holiday was very good value for money. Don't dismiss this place the moment you walk in. It's not in the best position, you knew that when you booked. Oh yes the mozzies yes quite a lot but its mozzie season so check before booking. It's not the ritz but it's great. just returned from a great family holiday, hotel is very friendly, full of nice people and nice staff, room was nice, over looked the pool and had a large queen size bed, lots of sun loungers so no rush to put towles down, pool bar was good serving pizza, burgers, hotdogs, fries and salad, all cooked fresh to order, free ice lollys from 12pm, main restraunt was nice they couldnt do enough for you, not loads of choice but all nice and fresh didnt get board of it, had some great nights in the bar loved the spining man and belly dancer, won the bingo one night, nice drinks and free peanuts, went to the beach on the free bus a few times, was a little disapointed with the sea life but great for sunbathing with free beach bar and a few nice shops on the front of hotel to look round while wating for the bus back,i would return to this hotel was sad to leave, the only thing i would change about this hotel is its location, it would of been nice to be able to walk of all the lovely food i kept eating, im glad i picked this hotel and its only five min from airport, did get bitten but so did most of the plain back so was norhing to do with this hotel.More

Good hotel, but.......
My partner and I are just back from our week at the Sol Y Mar. What I would reiterate are the positive comments made in most previous reviews about the friendliness of the hotel staff - they really do contribute to your holiday experience. However, there are some things I feel important to mention as they can really make or break your holiday; Mosquitos - please be aware of their presence and be prepared with precautions to try and avoid being bitten. I was bitten over 60 times over my feet and legs - looking around at the other female guests, I was not alone. Every one of us seem to have been bitten to various degrees. This did affect my holiday, due to the extreme itchiness preventing me from sleeping. I tried two different types of anti-repellent though neither seemed to make any difference and woke every morning to another set of bites. I would avoid using the hotel's public toilets at night as I think this is where they are rife. Food - I'm sorry to say, and this seems to contradict what most guests have to say, but the food is pretty poor. The chefs do try their best but it's really not good. We learned after a few days to stick to the pasta (made fresh in front of you) or the grill station, which served up beef, lamb etc. Also omelettes for breakfast, again made fresh in front of you. The rest is pretty dire - dishes of unappetising looking food (think school dinners) left under heat lamps, so nothing is piping hot, or at times even warm. I would say, if you're fussy, you might struggle. Drinks - the drinks are not great, the cocktails are pretty strong, so after a few you forget that they're not that good! The beer served in the restaurant is terrible, warm and really gassy, though the wine is drinkable. The spirits are not good - you can't taste the vodka - and that's even with a double measure! Room - the rooms are OK, nothing special and not spotless. Not dirty, but could be cleaner. The shower is terrible - so if you like a power shower try somewhere else! The 'double' beds are not - they are two singles put and kept together by a valance - I'm unsure if this is the same in all rooms so if this is important to you, I'd ask the hotel. Pushy sales people - be prepared on your first day to be badgered by various sales people. We'd literally just put our towels down on our loungers before they descended on us. Four different people within a few hours on our first morning - very annoying. I understand they have a job to do and they're all friendly enough (of course, they're Sales people) however it's too much too soon. Perhaps if they left you to settle in for a day or two you would feel more open to listening to them - but after each asking for '2 minutes of our time' - half an hour later and they were still talking...... I would not say to avoid this hotel - there are plenty of positives - all mentioned in previous reviews but I just wanted to highlight the negatives so there's a more balanced viewpoint.More
