Just back from a lovely week at Coral Sea Aqua Club

Just back from a lovely week at the Coral Sea Aqua Club from Oct 15th - 22nd Oct 2014. With Thomson. Just hubby and I went for a week away. First time ever to Egypt and we went without our teenagers to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and booked only 2 weeks before hand. Never flown with Thomson before and was surprised to find NO in flight entertainment on flight just under 5 hrs ! Not good for those with children who get bored. On arrival at Sharm airport you queue up with passport and this is where your asked if you'd like to purchase a visa ( around £19 per visa) this is allow you to go visit outer area's and also diving etc. We didn't purchase these as we felt no need to. You then go through passport then onto collect baggage and then outside where a rep will tell you what coach no you need. We had a funny coach rep and he made everyone welcome and we all joined in on the coach. Hotel - Check in was friendly, welcomed with a lovely cold drink and swiftly shown to our room. We had a fab room 5110, which is also a joining room. However , this locks. It didn't have a patio area like the others, just patio doors, the best bit is you can just walk right out of the patio door and your at the main pool. The room was huge and the bed was very comfortable. Walk in shower. TV. Fridge in room, but this isn't in the all inclusive so you will get charged for anything taken from the fridge. Plenty of wardrobe space and drawers. Free safe in room. Our room boy was friendly and did a good job, especially with the Towel Art. Air conditioning worked well, but we did have a problem - it was the case of trying to work out how to use it and get it right, so pressed all buttons to turn it off when it got to cold, lol. Doctors clinic on site, down by the back of the Water slides.Never used it though, so can't comment on service. The Food - was good. Always plenty of choice in the main restaurant, breakfast had cereals, hot choice of sausages, eggs ( cooked to order ie fried, scrambled, omelettes). Pancakes , waffles and plenty of pastries. Lunch /Dinner - Different Meats, Potatoes, Chips, Jacket potatoes, veg, soups, salads, bread & bread rolls, puddings and cake.We ate in the La Carte American Diner a couple of times too and had fab meals in there every time.My husband enjoyed the Steak. Didn't use the Aisa Restaurant so can't comment on that. From lunch time til about 4ish here are snacks available around the pools during the day mainly chips, fish, pizza, burgers, hot dogs, salad and ice cream, each snack bar has different food. At around 4 you can get hot drinks and tea time snacks too. The pools - Firstly, I must say I saw the pool waters being checked very regularly including the water on the slides too. Even saw the small round kids pool near main pool empited and cleaned late afternoon and refilled that night for the next day. Plenty of sunbeds. There is a main pool, kids mini round pool, a large wave machine pool, childrens private ship activity pool with amazing water features, also mini baby slides with pool and water shooters, the lazy river which was lovely, a wave rider machine and then you have the water slides too ! We never had to wait for a ring to use the lazy river , most were doubles. The slides used mats, single and double rings. You can't beat this hotel for the fun in this water park. There's so much choice that provides hours of fun for small and big kids :) Whilst relaxing in the sun by the man pool Mohammed would bring everyone drinks on a huge tray and he kept us topped up all day. He was so friendly and always working hard with a big sunny smile and he made good conversion and made you feel welcome, he would also be found looking rather smart in the main reception bar in the evening too, so like others worked long hours - we happily tipped him as he deserved it. There's also a towel hut for fresh towels daily for around the pool etc, all the pool staff were friendly and happy as were the life guards around the pools, who where really on the ball. The main pool water was cold, we heard the heating doesn't go on til November and many guests could be heard saying how cold it was. However, once you get in it wasn't that bad though we didn't stay in long due to this. Swim up rooms - These were located above the main pool. We never had one, but friends we met out there did and they upgraded to a swim up room on arrival. They were pleased with it as come 5pm the main pools were closed. They sunbathed around the main pool as they felt out of it on the terrace, however if you prefer a little more peace and quiet that would be prefect. The Thomson rep's are so lovely and friendly, they work hard and the entertainment around the main pool is fun to watch, even if you don't take part. They really are good with the kids and the kids seemed to enjoy messing around with them. There is also a Creche near the main pool, which looked lovely and clean when I passed as you could see through the glass doors. Aircraft - As you are only 20 minutes from the airport the hotel is on the flight path for planes taking off, however this isn't every 5 minutes and to be honest I love seeing Planes and this really never bothered us at all. Trips - We did book two trips with Thomson rep's. The VIP Cruise and Soho square shopping trip, though we also booked the Seascope trip from Falcon Adventure just across the road, this was cheaper and the service by Falcon was brilliant. I would use Falcon adventure again. Pop over and ask for Said or Max. Outside the hotel - To the right is a Pharmacy ( perfect to by OFF a mossie spray that actually worked for me , £5 a spray but much better than being bitten alive which when we saw some holiday makers they could play dot to dot with their bits . Then to the left within a few minutes walk you'll come across McDonald's, with KFC next door and few doors down is TGI Friday, Starbucks and across the road is a huge Hard Rock cafe. Also Metro which is a huge supermarket. The beach is nearby - you cross the roads in front of the hotel and go through the Holiday village hotel and your at the beach, it's about a 10 minute walk. You can go through this hotel as it's part of the same group as Coral Sea, though you can't get drinks or food here, unless you pay £5 each for the drinks if your going to spend a lot of time on the beach. Though, the Coral Sea Aqua club can provided you with a pack up should you wish ( not sure what's in that as we never used it , but it helps ) There are toilets there and they are extremely clean. It's a lovely beach with a sand/gravel effect. Shallow waters that are crystal clear, even paddling you can see small fish. A walk along the piers is great too. You can use the sunbeds/thatched umbrella's on the beach and if your lucky try the double swing beds with thatched roof so relaxing. If you fancy a Camel ride then these on the beach are better to pay for a ride than those along the front of the hotel as they rip you off and the men can be nasty ( so the rep warned us ) Mossies - arghh sadly there are about. I normally use Avon's skin-so-soft but got a bite on my foot. So, nipped next door to the Pharmacy and got a can of 'OFF' the rep said it worked and it did. Worth a fiver. When on holiday I also ditch all smellie's like perfume/ hairspray and shower in fragrance free shower gel to help not attract the mossies. Only saw a couple of hanging fly/mossies catcher pots in the grounds. Tipping - Well, they get paid little for long hours. I normally dislike the staff that hang round for a tip or hint for one. Ie : tipping the coach driver etc. In the hotel we only had this once and that was as we were leaving and the guy said it was me that bought your cases from the room and held out his hand, I said thanks and went on the coach but my hubby paid him. However, that does make me sound tight, I'm not. As I tipped our room boy lots and Mohammed too. They never hinted, we both welcoming and friendly and did a good job in hot temperature's. Good old £1 coins ( took a bag of £40 for a week) They will often ask if you have a ten pound note to change up their tips, that way they can change at their bank. Wifi - Free in reception area. Not very good in the evening as everyone is online on the smart phones or tablets. You can hire a wifi dongle from Falcon adventure across the road from hotel (tour place) Overall this was a lovely holiday, better than expected and we would return with our teenagers as they loved our pictures of the waterpark and it's features. Perfect for families. Location was good, shame not on beach but hey we weren't miles away. If asked what Improvements could there be made this would be - 1.Wifi is a must. 2. There are some parts of the hotel that could be updated / improved ie few dining chairs need re covering, back of curtains looking tired. Nothing major. 3. Turn down the air conditioning in the American Diner, far to cold and ruined the meal. 4. More fly catchers/ mossies killers around the complex to help.More

Lovely Holiday

The wife and I travelled to the Coral Sea Aqua Club from the 24th Sept – 08th October 2014. We had a wonderful time except for a couple of points which I will raise later. The flight was uneventful and when you arrive there you need to consider if you need a Visa or not, this could save you £19 each. If you don’t plan to leave the area then you don’t need one – worth asking. The transit to the hotel took approximately 20 minutes and once there we were welcomed with cold drinks and the formalities of booking in was quickly accomplished. The room was large, with a huge comfortable bed, fridge, safe, lovely shower and plenty of storage space. The air conditioning was very good, but at times got too cold – we could never get it right. The food in the main restaurant was excellent, no problems at all. The Asian & American restaurants produced some lovely meals – go for the steak. Pool bars produced a variety of good hot freshly cooked meals Sun beds were comfortable and plentiful - never had to get up early to put your pool towels down. The water park rides, pools and especially the lazy river provided hours of endless fun. There were plenty of life-guards around all the pools and safety was never an issue. There were children’s pools which I noticed kept the youngsters occupied. The pool bar waiters were often walking around with trays of very welcome cold drinks in the 40 degree C heat. Free Wi-Fi available all day in the reception area. There are a McDonalds, KFC, TGI Friday and Hard Rock Cafe within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel and a large supermarket on the other side. The beach is a 10/15 minute walk through the sister hotel across the road. It is well worth a visit – but take your own drinks – lovely sun beds with thatched shades. The sea is shallow (no reef) for a long way out – probably ½ mile and is still only up to my waist. I do enjoy snorkelling but didn’t from the beach or the jetty as it was hardly worthwhile. We have been to Egypt on four other occasions and stayed at Taba, Taba Heights and Marsa Alam, so we decided it was time to visit Sharm. Now for the disappointing aspects. 1) Mosquitoes are rife out there – locals informed us that this is mosquito season now until the end of October. They seem to be everywhere and women seem to be their main target. On the first night we had 30 minutes before the bar closed, so we went for a quick wind down drink, and in that time my wife was ‘bitten’ about 20-30 times on each leg!! We were warned about the mosquito problem next day at the welcome meeting – that’s too late!!! Take good quality mosquito repellent with you... I didn’t notice any spraying or precautions being implemented by the hotel to alleviate this problem. 2) Tipping – When I go on an all inclusive holidays it relieves me of carrying money around with me. Here tipping is a way of life and everyone wants some – it should be optional given for exceptional service. I did read in ‘Trip advisor’ prior to coming out there – “you need £40 plus for tips over two weeks because the waiters are poorly paid,” – sorry but that’s not my problem! Overall this is a lovely, friendly hotel with plenty to do – the aqua park is wonderful, food great, staff were always helpful, combine that with 40 degree sun. The reps work long hard hours yet always had time to chat. We enjoyed our holiday but this is a very family oriented hotel with lots of young children, the mosquitoes were a problem (I did speak to other people who had been there earlier this year and they had never encountered this mosquito problem before) tipping was a pain and I need to be able to walk down to the beach and snorkel. So, sorry will not be coming back, but would recommend it, if you have children.More

A lovely weeks break...

Stayed here for a week at the beginning of October with my sister and wanted to leave a comment to say how much we enjoyed our stay. We didn't join in many of the activities during the day but lounging by the pool meant that we could hear the entertainment team encouraging people to get involved. Dawn chatted with us a few days. We watched the show each evening and where typically Egypt entertainment isn't always great we were pleased you could be up later than 10pm to enjoy what was going on. With the traditional cheesy games to get the audience involved to tribute acts and of course the kids disco to start off. It was all brilliant, our favourite though was Alex who sang in the sports bar each evening, I'm surprised no one else has mentioned him. He would sing a variety of music from 10.30pm, the sports bar is a strange room and tucked away. The food was good, found something to eat each meal time, the Al a cart were good especially the American the food was amazing :) My only feedback is that there is no signage, it's not clear what the restaurants are, no signage to the sports bar and no signage on the grounds and although it isn't too big and you can find your way around it is always nice to be able to see a map! Thanks for a great holiday :)More

Laura H,

Not what we were sold on.

Recently returned from a two week stay, for a four star plus rating we were very disappointed. Don't get me wrong we weren't expecting the ritz but if you were to remove the water park that our 8 yr old loved to bits the hotel would be at best a 3 star. We paid £4,300 for a swim up room, make sure you get the sunny side. Buffet restaurant is a cafe with look warm food & a poor choice for children considering the hotel is children orintated. Reception area is an empty she'll of an area. If a large room with four 35inch televisions constitutes a sports bar well we are all done for. American restaurant with no American style food to speak of. Furniture that has seen better days ripped / worn out / dirty. So if you are not too fussy about decor and hot quality food this is your place. Oh bi the way my wife was also harassed by one of the pool attendents, it seems they have a liking for females that are very pale in colour. We have written to Thompson and have just received their reply, it seems that this is all aceptable as they feel that the hotel is performing.More

Good hotel, very compact

Well, we arrived back two days ago, and thought I would let people know what it is like. The location of the hotel is good, plenty of shops on your doorstep, a couple of pubs, and mc Donald's , Burger King ,KFC, TGIF,close by. First thing I have to mention is the swim- up rooms, we never went in one,but it's the first time I have known them to be on the third floor, that seems strange to me. I spoke to a few people who had them, and they spent most of their time round the pool. Water park Great for the kids, and grown ups to. There were four big and four small slides for everybody.i was surprised, I was suprised when asked to weigh myself before going on the Boomerang slide,if your too heavy, you may go down thr last bit too fast and go over the top. Not recommended .there is also a small section of the park for the small ones. If I had been a small one I would have been on it all day,it looked great.there is also a wave pool, but the waves are not all that big, also a place to go surfing, my wife at 65 loved that one. The pool outside the park is were the entertainment happens. My wife and I booked a family room. There was a largr bed you could get lost in, the tow sliding doors leading to two sofa beds, the the patio door onto the balcony also a small bathroom with walkin shower. Hot water 24/7. Food Food in the main restaurant was very good, if you have a food allergy ,ask the chief and he will take you round all the dishes and let you know which ones you can eat, if there is nothing you fancy, he will make you what you want. The American bar was very good, you have to book for that, also the Asian bar, but I would not recommend that one. You will get the vouchers for these at the welcome meeting. Overall a good holiday, until the last day. We had a couple of hours to spare before we went home, and decided to have a look round the sister hotel across the road. What a hotel, you could could put our hotel into it 4or5 times with only about 100 more rooms, and on the beach, this is were our next Egyptian holiday will be. If you have kids the Aqua club is for you, if not the Holiday village is for youMore
