Peaceful, welcoming, ticks our boxes - we plan to come back.
We have just returned from a fabulous 2 week holiday at this quiet, excellently run hotel and for the first time we are planning to return to a hotel for a 2nd time, later this year. Our tick list is adults only, super pool, peace & quiet and access to a tennis court. Well Steigenberger Makadi ticked our boxes and more. I wonât spend my review telling you how wonderful the food, the staff etc. are, there are plenty of reviews already giving you that information. Iâll just concentrate on giving some traveller tips. Wrist bands â great, you donât have to wear them, the hotel has a high staff to guest ratio and they know you after the first time theyâve met you. Rooms â our double (2 x 4â beds pushed together) overlooked Makadi Bay and the sea, weâd recommend the view. Very quiet even though we were opposite the lift. The architect deserves an award for the room design. The bedroom itself is large, with a sofa, coffee table, desk and chair, plenty of lighting, mini bar with soft drinks included. Each evening the housekeeper returns before dinner to offer a large bottle of water, fresh beach towels and mini bar replenishment. The bathroom/dressing room is a triumph. Separate glass-doored W.C., bath with hand-held shower, separate large walk-in shower, hand-basin, hairdryer, shaver point and proper shaving mirror, then hanging space, 2 large chests of drawers, stool and free-use safe. Frosted glass windows open into the bedroom. In the bathroom on arrival there are 2 pairs slippers, 2 waffle robes, 2 pool towels and a beach bag. Pool â my favourite part. 36m long heated infinity pool. Next to the pool is the gym with hand weights and some cardio machines, towels are provided. Also located here is the small spa offering massages and free use of the Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna. There are excellent poolside showers here, proper glass-doored cubicles and toiletries, also very clean and well-appointed loos. Perfect set-up to shower& use the spa facilities at the end of the day. Dining â if you love seafood I would thoroughly recommend the Friday night special seafood meal, at extra cost but worth every penny. The Friday we had it we were the only ones and boy were we spoilt. A cabana by the pool (in the evenings the pool has underwater lights) had a table laid for us decorated with bougainvillea flowers, lit but candles in hurricane lamps. A glass of local fizz to start and a bottle of local wine included. The food was fabulous and we had a chef, the restaurant manager and a waiter looking after us. Also recommended is the âRomantic Dinnerâ which runs on Wednesday and Sundays and is included once in the AI. Take something long-sleeved, a cardi or a wrap as it can be a bit chilly by the pool in the evenings. There is a dine-around facility again once free during your holiday. We opted for the Indian restaurant and it was lovely, others went to the grill and said it was very good indeed. If you want to book a meal away from the hotel or use the tennis court you just go to the amazingly helpful reception team who will book it for you and automatically sort out the transport which is generally in the form of a golf-buggy and driver, itâs so easy. One last thing. Hurghada and the surrounding resorts are as safe as anywhere in the world at the moment and security is reassuringly high. The Egyptian tourist trade is running at 40% which is having a dreadful effect on the Egyptian people and the country. Donât be deterred from coming here on security grounds.More
Serene Pamper Palace - adults only
If you like being waited on hand and foot (to the point of having your plate carried from the buffet to the table), then this is for you. Nothing is too much trouble for the hard working staff, who are sincere in wanting your stay to be enjoyable. The rooms and hotel itself are superb. The lap of luxury. The additional touches are what separates this hotel from the norm when on Half board basis. eg. Bath robes, pool towels, flip flops, tea, coffee, coffee mate, water, beach bag, free safe, welcome drink every day at the pool, sweets by the pool, lifts to the beach and souk, free coffee after meals, as well as the free toiletries which alot of places do these days. I, unfortunately, was ill during the whole of my stay (swollen feet initially then a terrible throat /chest infection) and everyone I encountered attempted to make me more comfortable. However, that had its down side and leads me to the lack of 1 star. I was alone, a single female, and my room was attended to /cleaned by a male who did not speak English. It was clear he was concerned for my well being, but more than once I felt uncomfortable trying to refuse his 'ministrations' to no avail. It didn't help that I wasn't aware there was an electronic "Do not Disturb" system until my 5th or 6th day - he was coming in during inopportune moments!! Putting that aside - if you imagne the experience of a relaxing holiday - then add 50% more zen for this hotel. It is small and 'civilised' - no sign of hustle and bustle. (Maybe there is plenty behind the scenes, but as a guest you don't feel /see it). I found the pool area very relaxing and having your glasses cleaned every day was a bonus! I can't single anyone out for special praise, as EVERY ONE works extremely hard to please the guests. But the pool bar staff were especially kind making drinks for my very sore throat, and enjoying a light hearted joke when I had no voice whatsoever! Will I be back????? I hope so. Nothing against the hotel, but I didn't like being charged £25 instead of $25 or â¬25 at the airport for my visa AND I found out my 400 egyptian pounds spent on Strepcils and anti biotics was less than half price reading the Arabic price tag. Little things like that put you off returning. Life is cut throat enough.More

2nd visit as good or better than first
Our second visit, but only for one week not 10 days due to a change in Thompson flight schedules. The hotel and all the staff are amazing. It is wrong to pick particular people when all so friendly, but the golf pro is a really nice guy and the pool bar staff work so hard to look after you. We are booking for Christmas this yearMore

Steigenberger Makadi - Lovely Stay
We stayed here at New Year for a week and loved it. We could not fault anything, the service, food, facilities were all excellent. y I have to say I've never seen chefs take so much pride in their food, how it was prepared, displayed etc. The only down side for me was I love the beach and you do have to arrange transport to get to it, but this was only a minor thing. Would I return here definitely, would I recommend to family and friends Yes.More
A nice comfortable topline stay
Owing to my work and lifestyle i am a frequent business and leisure traveller globally. I have really enjoyed my stay together with my family in this hotel. If we compare this hotel with other steigenberger hotels in hugadah and algouna, this one will definitely win Positives: -Top line room service: gameel mahmoud did a fantastic job and always made sure that we have a nice surprise when we enter the room - mr khaled the restaurant manager, was always there to support and make sure that food is with best quality and served in the best presentation possible. - the general manager mohamed el sayed was always around and he showed great hospitality Points of improvement: - steam in the spa was not working - breakfast to have more variety - more often shuttle busses to the beach All in all i would rate this hotel - 9.9/10(egyptian standard)More
