Great hotel, disappointing location.
Stayed here for a week Feb 6-13 2017. Can't praise the hotel enough, the rooms are spacious and well appointed, the food was plentiful and of good quality, the staff are so hard working, courteous and can't do enough for you. Ok, the location of the hotel is not perfect (30 mins from any outside amenities) but if you want relaxation in a child-free hotel then this is for you. Just take a book or your iPod and chill in the sun. The entertainment is typical middle-eastern so don't expect too much and sun bed reservation for the prime poolside spots was always an issue unless you're an early riser. But we're home now and sorely miss the hotel already. I will definitely recommend and will return in the not too distant future. Give it a try - you won't be disappointed. Just don't compare it with Sharm that's all.More
CONSISTENTLY GOOD - 4.5 *
We visited here for our second time at the end of January/beginning of February for 14 days and wish we had booked for 3 weeks instead! The reviews on here are generally true to the experience as all the staff are fantastic from Management down, the facilities are good and the food is excellent. The slight negatives, as have already been mentioned, are that some areas are a little tired now and the towels in the bathrooms were sometimes very rough and rather grey. We booked a larger double de-luxe room which included a Jacuzzi, not that we particularly wanted one of these, but these rooms have already been refurbished. Whilst we were there, the end of that wing was still closed off but should open soon with further refurbished rooms - de-luxe Jacuzzi rooms and suites. The only negative regarding these rooms at this time of year and probably part of the summer, is that they face NNW so get very little sun. To summarise; we had a fantastic two weeks of rest and relaxation in the company of some lovely holidaymakers and brilliant hotel staff. The weather was warm but windy and we only managed to snorkel on one occasion. We will definitely be returning in the future! Carol and JohnMore
Perfect winter tonic!
We booked this holiday a week before we travelled on 6th February and got a very good deal. We wanted a luxury break in a nice hotel without children and that is exactly what we got. We are seasoned travellers and have been to Egypt at least 30 times including some Red Sea resorts but it was first time to Hurghada. Our bedroom was fantastic, a massive bed & we loved having his and her sinks in the bathroom. Dining in the main restaurant was a pleasure, food was always freshly made and there was plenty of choice. We loved the "Gala night" on Thursday too. All the staff from the cleaners to the management were wonderful, always said hello & so helpful. We treated ourselves to the VIP package ($20 per person per night) and in our opinion this was definitely worth it. It gave access to the Executive Lounge which served branded drinks (we usually have to take our own gin to Egypt!), is open 24 hours a day & has snacks too. The staff that work in this Lounge are extremely professional & a credit to the hotel. It also meant that we could eat in the Indian restaurant and the Japanese restaurant (a very theatrical experience!) free of charge. It also gave us free access to the Sky pool at the top of the hotel with a sauna and a jacuzzi. We liked to go up there and chill out whilst watching the sunset, often we were the only ones there. We enjoyed swimming in the large heated pool outside and loved the fact that one of the waiters came around every morning to clean our sunglasses & serve fresh fruit. We were slightly disappointed that we couldn't swim directly into the sea from the hotel on the beach, but most days it was a bit too windy anyway. One day we hired a golf cart and explored both ways along the beach. It was interesting to look at the other hotels and also be able to buy a few things in a small shopping centre at bargain prices (unlike the hotel's pharmacy!) The VIP package also gave us a free laundry service which we took advantage of, so nice to go home with clean clothes! Whilst we had a wonderful holiday in a first class hotel we would not return until Hurghada airport have improved their security check in process. One elderly gentleman from our group had to wait for 90 minutes standing outside the airport in the cool wind waiting for a wheelchair. There are obviously not enough wheelchairs or staff to deal with the necessary security checks which seem random and chaotic. This is not the hotel's fault which is why I have given 5 stars but will seriously affect their bookings if this continues. I would advise anyone with mobility issues to hire a private cab to get to the airport before the coaches get there to be sure of getting one of the 3 wheelchairs available.More
Lovely hotel with fantastic food & outstanding service
I travelled to this hotel with my husband 3rd to 10th Feb 2017 & is our 3rd time to Egypt....first being Club Magic Life in Sharm, second The Makadi Palace in Makadi Bay & this is by far the best hotel! Transfer from airport about 40 mins & hotel is situated in Sahl Hasheesh, between the start of Sahl & Downtown Sahl. The check in was quick & efficient, we were given a welcome drink & hot flannel & made to feel welcome. Our cases were left in reception & brought to our room shortly after. The hotel is spotlessly clean & always smelled nice. Nice relaxed atmosphere, with piped music in most areas & low key entertainment ROOM:1243 This was spacious, with large bed, chair, walk in wardrobe & large bathroom with bath & separate walk in shower. Yes it was maybe a little dated, but perfectly adequate. We had a problem with the kettle which was rectified immediately. Room had a side view towards the sea. Free mini bar with soft drinks, & two small bottles of wine & some fruit were in room on arrival. FOOD: FIRST CLASS! The main buffet restaurant was very good.Tables nicely laid with table cloths, excellent choice, different theme nights, well cooked & well presented food. We didn't eat the same food at all, other than breakfast. The Gala night was wonderful. Thank you to Mo & Samir our wonderful waiters who looked after us & had a joke with us. As the food was so good in the buffet restaurant, we only ate in one of the a la cartes, this being the Italian. Unfortunately, it wasn't the best experience. We arrived about 10 minutes early & were quite rudely told to come back on time by the head waiter, which we did. The same waiter served us in a surly manner whilst chewing gum. We raised our concerns & this was dealt with immediately by a Senior Manager who was most apologetic. The food in there was average. After this, the managers were constantly asking us if everything was ok. POOL: main pool freshwater & heated & excellent water quality. There is another salt water pool which was freezing, & two other small pools. Plenty of sunbeds & we never had a problem getting one. The pool guys were great, taking the towels to our beds & getting us pillows. Yes we tipped them, but they didn't expect it, as did any of the staff. Carlos our drinks waiter was fab & loved his cat impression. Lovely pool bar/restaurant & lots of comfy places to sit. One downside is the constant pressure from the spa staff who are very insistent!! I did have one massage on my terms & it was very good! Haggle with them to get a decent price though. There is an indoor pool but unfortunately you have to pay for this which is a shame. I would have also liked o have used the sauna & steam room, but this again had to be paid for & was quite expensive. You can hire golf type buggies & push bikes & ride up & down the prom. We had great fun driving to Downtown Sahl Hasheesh to have a look round (£10 per hour) There is a few shops/cafes etc but very quiet. The other way towards Makadi Bar, there is only a few hotels & half empty shopping centre, which will be good when fully occupied. Felt completely safe! We spent most of our evenings in the quiet lounge bar, served by Mani, who remembered our drinks from night one! There is the Long Bar on the 4th floor, which is a bit livelier, with pool tables, sport on TV, a dance floor & cards & games tables. In a nutshelll, this is a wonderful hotel, with fab food, fantastic customer service & wonderful staff! Management constantly walking around to check everyone ok, We will definitely go back! Egypt is safe & they need tourism back!More
Another Premier Holiday....
I am writing this review on Valentines Day, which seems quite appropriate, as my wife and I love this a Hotel! We've been lucky enough to visit the PLR on a number of previous occasions, and having reread the old reviews I find it hard to find anything else to say, the Staff are still superb, great food, great rooms and a great relaxing atmosphere. So why do we keep coming back when friends say why not try elsewhere, because for us it just works! This winter we've been twice, and on each occasion we've sat by very sceptical people on the plane who weren't sure about visiting. Rest assured on our return flights home they just enthuse about the Hotel and can't wait to return. One couple had been on a number of Sandals holidays and wouldn't want to go back to them after visiting the PLR. Many of the recent reviews portray this hotel with glowing reviews , one says they won't return, and the reason , the airport, yes it can be difficult, but that is no reason to give the hotel low scores. At the end of the day Security is the reason for any time taken to get through, and surely that is paramount. Many people return because it feels like a second home, so thank you again Mr Hossam Mandour and all your staff for not only looking after us, but for all the first time visitors who wish to return. That for us says it all, see you November, if not before! More
