“With a seafront spot and a miles-from-anywhere feel, this bohemian-style retreat serves up the ultimate in R&R breaks.”
This place has all the hallmarks of a first class hotel. It’s set on the peaceful Sinai Peninsula and the views of the rugged landscape are something else. Looks-wise, it’s all about North-African style architecture, beautiful water gardens and swaying palms. It comes with its own private beach, too, so you’re just footsteps from the sand. The hotel also has its own dive centre.

As for the accommodation itself, you’ll find dinky whitewashed bungalows dotted among the greenery. The bedrooms are painted in shades of buttermilk, with splashes of soft red and sage green. In terms of extras, expect plasma TVs, air-conditioning and private balconies or terraces.

Outside, you’ll find a chic pool scene at the heart of things. It’s a lake-sized number that snakes its way through the complex. It’s bordered by a wide sun terrace dotted with loungers and thatched parasols. You’ll even find a few outdoor sofas dotted about, too.

The hotel’s dining scene is impressive. From fine Italian cuisine served in a white-linen-and-candlelight setting, to fresh seafood on the shorefront, there are plenty of gourmet experiences to enjoy. Plus, adding to the Bedouin vibe, you’ll find a laidback beach bar on the sand. Head here at sunset for sweet tea, shisha pipes, and great views.

Your guide to Dahab, Egypt - Red Sea

"With its relaxed pace and spectacular underwater sites, Dahab is the Red Sea in more laid-back, simple style."

There’s a rhythm to Dahab that marks it out from other Red Sea resorts. You’ll feel it the moment you set foot on its hot, cushiony sands and spot the clusters of windsurfers skimming over the bay. This is Egypt with a laid-back, more carefree vibe, where everything tells you to let go … and then go with the flow. That’s not to say Dahab’s location isn’t as soul-stirringly beautiful as other places on the Riviera. Backed by jagged mountains and desert sands, the beach lives up to its name – Dahab in Arabic means ‘gold’ – with its fine, yellow sands reaching down to greet azure seas. A hotspot for divers thanks to the many good sites close by, it’d be a shame to miss out on the underwater world here. If you’re an experienced diver, the lure of the iconic Blue Hole, a breathtaking 200-foot circular drop in the ocean floor is sure to entice. And if snorkelling’s more your thing, you’ll find lots to keep you goggle-eyed in the nearby string of exquisite coral reefs. As afternoon melts into evening, head for Dahab’s colourful little bazaar area, where cheerful vendors tout their wares of carpets, jewellery and souvenir trinkets. Then linger over dinner at a Bedouin-style restaurant beside the water’s edge. Choose the plumpest freshly caught specimen from the fish counter, sink into a colourful cushion and let the kaleidoscope of stars, sea and sand slowly work its magic.

The Hotel Iberotel Dahabeya was excellent. Having previously had a holiday in Dahab when the air conditioning hardly worked and let in mosquitoes, it was sheer heaven to have a lovely room with balcony overlooking the pool, and air conditioning to die... more on this review
