As locations go, this one's hard to beat. The River Nile snakes right past the Sonesta and so the views come thick and fast. During the day, the sparkling waters and distant mountains are magical, but wait 'til you see it at sunrise or sunset. Then it becomes nothing short of breathtaking. As for the hotel itself, there's no mistaking its five star credentials. Here, you'll find gleaming marble floors. Sparkling chandeliers. Saville Row-smart bellboys. In fact, there's something almost Agatha Christie-esque about the olde-world grandeur. One thing's for sure, this place has the wow factor down to a fine art. And it's the same everywhere you go. The three themed restaurants have the style and elegance of a top London eatery, with immaculate tables and cutlery. Diners are dressed in their finest threads, while waiters follow suit with bowties and dinner jackets. The menus are simple yet striking, with a choice of international a la carte dishes. Think linguine and scallops from Italy. Sushi and Sashimi from Japan. And Szechwan chilli prawns from the Orient. Food aside, you may have relaxation firmly on your mind. In which case, pay a visit to the health club or simply opt for a few hours by the pool which overlooks the river. All in all, this place is pretty special. From its five star style to the Nile view, it's certainly impressive. But the finest recommendation comes from the President of Egypt himself. When he's in Luxor, he always stays here. What more could you ask for?

Very quiet when we went even though work was still going on, finished by 5pm when your thinking about going back to room for shower etc. Food excellent in the main restaurant with alot of variety and choice every meal, also the coffee shop by the mani... more on this review
