The Old Winter Palace is a luxurious hotel that was once a private residence of King Farouk of Egypt. Designed like an English stately home, it is an outstanding landmark on the riverfront that even the Pharaohs would have been proud of. The resort centre of Luxor is just a one minute walk away. There are shops directly outside the entrance. It is only a five minute walk to the Bazaar and the West Bank ferry opposite the Luxor Temple.
Taxis are cheap and are found on the main road if you want to travel further afield. Set in the lively and central resort of Luxor, the hotel is situated in picteresque surroundings. Nearby there is plenty of fascinating ancient Egyptian history to see with the Luxor and Karnak Temples, Valley of the Queens, Hatsheput's Temple and the Valley of the Kings, where Egypt's great Pharaohs were laid to rest, just a short trip away.

It is a palace, but staying there is like being a boy at a Dickensian boarding prep school in the days of queen Victoria when incidently, the O.W.P. was built! The place seems to be run for the benefit of the (badly trained) staff not the guests. The... more on this review
