Cities, sights and sensational scenery...

Nowhere launches an assault on the senses like Egypt and Jordan. On the one hand it’s all tombs, temples and mummy-filled museums. On the other, it’s golden sands, clear blue seas and a marine wonderland like you’ve never seen. Choose this cruise and visit places that need no introduction. Cairo. Luxor. Jordan. And then there’s the Red Sea. Slip on a snorkel and watch clouds of fish swirl around your mask. Scuba divers from all over the world come here to check out the famous rainbow reefs. Your ship sails from Sharm El Sheikh, headed for Jordan where you’ll spend two days exploring. Target the Lost City of Petra and Indiana Jones your way through tombs and temples carved into rock. This is, after all, where the Last Crusade was filmed. And don’t forget the Dead Sea where you can float your cares away. Afterwards, it’s back to Egypt to witness the chaos of Cairo. Haggle in bazaars that are crammed into the backstreets. Pass locals smoking sheesha pipes over endless games of dominoes. And check out the city’s trump card – the Pyramids. With a foot firmly in the past, it’s Egypt’s ancient sights that sprinkle it with stardust. In Luxor, be dwarfed by the mighty Karnak Temple, then wander through the nearby Valley of the Kings. It’s one history fix after another. Culture aside, there’s plenty of sun to soak up, too. Egypt boasts some of the world’s best beach resorts. In Hurghada, dig your toes into sand that glimmers like finely ground gold. Then dive into translucent waters to check out what’s going on beneath the waves. Last but not least, it’s back to where you started - Sharm El Sheikh, the Red Sea’s most happening holiday spot. All this, in just one week. What more could you ask for?

Friday, Aqaba - JORDAN  11:00 - 23:59

  • Relaxation’s easy to come by in Aqaba. Here, glittering sands melt into waters so clear you can see fish flitting across the seabed. This mountain-backed stretch is great for watersports, too. When you’ve had enough of sunbathing, take a look at Aqaba Fort and the remains of what archaeologists believe is the world’s oldest church. Or instead, venture outside of Aqaba for some of Jordan’s most awe-inspiring sights…

  • Don’t miss what many consider to be the eighth Wonder of the Ancient World – Petra. It’s an ancient city carved into sandstone cliffs, with tombs and temples rising out of the desert like a shimmering mirage. The city’s masterpiece, which starred in ‘Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade’, is the ‘treasure tomb’. Its name springs from one of the abstract urns carved into the rock face that’s said to hold sparkling riches.
  • Be mesmerised by Wadi Rum, Jordan’s most magnificent desert landscape. Here, massive mountains rise out of the rose red desert sand. If it looks familiar, it may be because you’ve seen it before - in ‘Lawrence of Arabia’.
  • Float in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea and smother yourself in goodness from the sea’s muddy floor.

  • Like Port Said, Port Sokhna is your key to Cairo. Nowhere on earth launches an all-out assault on the senses quite like Cairo. Tuesday, Safaga (for Luxor and Hurghada) - EGYPT  11:00 - 23:59

  • Built on the 4,000-year-old site of Thebes – Egypt’s ancient capital – Luxor stands on the east bank of the felucca-flecked Nile. Imagine an outdoor museum and this place more than measures up to the vision. Hurghada, meanwhile, is a diver’s sun-drenched dream.

  • Your first must-see in Luxor is the incredible Temple of Luxor in the heart of the modern town. Gaze wide-eyed at the incredible obelisks built by Ramses II and wonder at an unimaginably long-ago world. And then finish up with a tour of the city’s unmissable mummy-filled museums.
  • Luxor’s two other highpoints lie outside the city. Head north to gawp at the Temple of Karnak, a jaw-dropping series of vast shrines and pillars. Then head across the Nile to see the legendary Valley of the Kings, with its 62 hill-carved tombs, including those of Tutankhamun and Ramses II. Descend into the eerie hieroglyphic-inscribed burial chambers and you’ll feel totally humbled.
  • Fancy a break from sightseeing? Then head for the gold-dust beaches of Hurghada. The diving here is out of this world. Fish in garish orange, translucent greens and iridescent blues flash across the coral in brilliant shoals.
  • Make the most of all that hot Egyptian sunshine with a trip to the island of Giftun. Top up your tan, swim in the sea and get to know the underwater world with a spot of snorkelling. The island’s at the southern tip of a beautiful, 2km-long reef, so the scene that awaits you beneath the waves is pretty spectacular.
