Beaches are only part of the story on a holiday to Cyprus. The island is also home to mountain scenery, centuries-old sights and unforgettable food.
Playground of the Gods
If history is your thing, then a cruise and stay in Cyprus is the right holiday for you. Explore Paphos Archaeological Park, with its open-air amphitheatre and well-preserved mosaics dating back to the Middle Ages. If that doesn’t whet your appetite, then visit Tomb of Kings, the impressive 4th-century underground tombs carved out of solid rock.
Take time to coast
Whether your perfect beach is secluded and remote, or you prefer something a little more lively, there’s plenty of choice in Cyprus. Head to Nissi Beach in Ayia Napa for beach bars, water-skiing, para-gliding and banana boats. Lara Bay, in Akamas Penisula, is hidden within a nature reserve, which gives you striking panoramic views of the turquoise waters and pine tree-clad cliffs.
A cruise and stay holiday to Cyprus is your chance to try something different. Seek adventure with a 4x4 safari in the Troodos Mountains, or have a go at some go-karting or even paintballing at Sayious Adventure Park in Limassol. For a totally unique experience, trot through Paphos’ vast countryside at Eagle Mountain Ranch, followed by a trip up the mountains for wine tasting at Tsangarides Winery.
Island of Love
If you’re looking to get a slice of romance then head to Petra Tou Romiou – more commonly known as the Rock of Aphrodite. Legend claims that this beach spot is where the Goddess of Love rose from the sea, and if you swim around the giant rock three times, you’ll find true love. If you’re already all loved up, then you can swim round once for luck, or use the opportunity to get some picture-perfect couple shots on the pebbly beach.

Limassol, a busy port on the south coast of Cyprus, isn’t just the island’s biggest resort, it’s one of the best, too. It can easily match the capital, Nicosia, for cosmopolitan buzz. It can keep the pace with Ayia Napa in the nightlife stakes. And the beach life is on a par with any of the island’s top sandy stretches.
Aphrodite Hills is a luxury resort between Paphos and Limassol in Cyprus. You couldn’t really ask for a better setting – it sits on either side of the Randi Gorge overlooking the spot where Aphrodite is said to have risen from the sea. It’s a peaceful, away-from-it-all place with its own 18-hole golf course and a traditional-style village square filled with restaurants.
Amathus Bay sits quietly on the south coast of Cyprus. Ruins near the village are all that remains of its status as an ancient royal city, said to have been home to the children of the god Heracles. These days, its whitewashed cottages and small portfolio of restaurants attract holidaymakers who want to get away from it all – with the option of a 10-minute drive to lively Limassol.
