A stylish new look for Thomson Airways [VIDEO]

When your front room’s in need of a lick of paint, a roller and a couple of pairs of hands usually get the job done. When it’s a 283-seater aeroplane that requires a makeover, though, things aren’t quite as straightforward. It took 35 people almost a fortnight to kit one of Thomson Airways’ 767 planes out with its new livery. All in all, the epic paint job called for 850 litres of stripper and 400 litres of paint and primer. It won’t be long before other planes in the fleet have the same smart look – including the new 787 Dreamliners, which fly to Mexico and Florida on selected routes from next May – and we think you’ll agree, the results speak for themselves…

Hello again. We are flying from Doncaster Robin Hood airport to Corfu on 27/05/13 Flight No TOM 3128. Can you tell me what type of plane we will be on and what the leg room will be? Will the interior be the new layout? Thanks

    • Lisa-Marie @Thomson says: 16/05/2013 at 11:46

      Hi Peter,
The flight is currently being operated on a 737, and the seating configuration is 3-3. The standard seat pitch on a shorthaul flight is approx 28 inches. Most of our fleet have been updated with the new economy club interior.

Hi. Am flying Birmingham > Dalaman on May 20 and have booked extra legroom seats. I have now to choose which ones but I would like more information than the plan gives me (such as where the middle exit door, if there is one, is situated, where the toilets are as I don’t want to sit next to one, whether I have a bulkhead in front of me, no trays etc etc etc).

Is this possible to provide rather than just the 41 rows of seats on the plan on your website?

I currently have the option of booking in rows 8, 10 or 11.

I note that your flights are not on seatguru or similar sites.

    • James @Thomson says: 29/04/2013 at 01:12

Hi Clive, Thanks for your post. If you could provide us with your holiday booking reference we can look into that for you.

      • clive says: 29/04/2013 at 08:10

Ah – can see replies are moderated and details removed.

        Booking ref is …

Query obviously relates to return journey too.

      • Lauren @Thomson says: 04/05/2013 at 12:16

Hi Clive, Sorry for the time it’s taken to get back to you. Just to let you know the toilets are located at the very front and at the very back of the aircraft so you’re not sat too close to them. Being in row 11, you’ll also have another row of extra legroom seats in front of you so will have a tray in the back of the chair. The middle exit door will also be over the wing, around 15 rows behind you. I hope this helps.

      • clive says: 05/05/2013 at 12:58

Thanks. The seating plan could be a LOT more accurate – the wings are shown as being level with row 11.
My travel agent (Thomson) has confused extra legroom and extra space seating (she didn’t know about the changes) so I haven’t quite got what I thought I was getting and have booked many times before – the mid-plane exit row seats.
This is very annoying as my wife suffers from claustrophobia.
There is a lot of room for improvement on the select a seat part of your site – the plans are not to scale nor do they show bulkheads, exits etc etc. They don’t – as mentioned above – even have the wings in the right place. If the website was more accurate I’m sure you wouldn’t get as many queries as you get.
Please pass my comments on to “those who matter”.

      • Rebecca @Thomson says: 11/05/2013 at 01:38

        Hi Clive,

I’m sorry to hear of this. I’ll be sure to pass your feedback onto the relevant team.

  13. Mrs D Henry says: 21/04/2013 at 14:58

Hi we are flying to Sandford on 5 July and on the seat it is showing 3-3-3 but all other info prior to this was 2 -4- 2. Ideally we wanted a full row of four but if not would like two rows of two with no one sitting next to us. Also the plan doesnt show the toilet location as last time we were sat very near and had people bumping into us continually waiting for the toilets. Can someone help?

    • Adam @Thomson says: 21/04/2013 at 16:10

Hi Mrs D Henry, Can you please provide your booking reference please so we can find you on the system?

      • Mrs D Henry says: 22/04/2013 at 10:43

Hi booking ref:2600******, and I would like to query why we have paid extra for this as if we hadn’t I am sure we would have got the same seats you are trying to give us.

      • James @Thomson says: 23/04/2013 at 04:12

Hi Mrs Henry, Thanks for your blog comment. I’ve looked into your holiday booking and it appears that you’re scheduled to fly out and return on the 787 Dreamliner. With this in mind the seating configuration of this aircraft is set at 3-3-3 for Economy Club. Can we just confirm that you’ve already selected your seats? As normal 90 days prior to the return date you’d be able to select your seats on http://www.flightextras.thomson.co.uk.

      • Mrs D Henry says: 23/04/2013 at 10:59

        Hi

No I haven’t booked seats as when I looked on the plan some had already ben suggested but what I need to know is the toilet locations because we do not want to be near them

      • James @Thomson says: 24/04/2013 at 04:11

Hi Mrs Henry, Thanks for your response. We’ve taken a look at this for you and it appears that the WC’s on board will be located around row 8 and also row 27. I hope this helps answer your query.

    Hola!

We are flying on flight TOM 2170 from Manchester to Palma (Majorca) on 1 July this year. Do you know what type of plane it is -(I imagine its a 767 but I cannot seem to see which seating configuration). We have got seats 3A, 3C, 4A and 4C because I hoped that we were near the door (for quick exit). Thanks

    • Stefan @Thomson says: 20/04/2013 at 04:07

Hi Mark, If you provide me with your booking reference then I’ll look into this for you.

  15. Sue Stephenson says: 18/04/2013 at 16:31

James, I don’t know what is going on with our seats. We have been to our travelagent and also escalated with customer services and got a very unsatisfactory response. I am hoping you can help.

As you will see from our message to you on 7th April. We had been allocated extra legroom seats with our party all sitting together. We had already spoken to our travel agent at the time plane was reallocated instead of the Dreamliner and they confirmed we woud definitely all be sitting together in extra legroom seats.

We went back onto the site yesterday to check if there was any update on the Dreamliner for the return journey only to find we did not have any seats reserved for us at all for the outward journey. The only seats we could book were 2 seats on each side of the plane separated by another four seats. This is not what we paid for nor is it what I know we had allocated. On 7th April we had the left hand seats from the window on row 20, with only the aisle between the two blocks of two seats.

I keep getting told it can’t be remedied because the plane is full. Now I can’t even see online which seats I have been allocated at all for either flight. Something odd is going on. I know you can’t create seats but we do all need to sit together in extra legroom seats and this is what we have paid for.

What has happened and can you do anything to sort it out please?

    • Dan @Thomson says: 20/04/2013 at 15:19

Hi Sue, I’ve had a look at your booking and can see that you’ve been allocated extra space seats in row 14 on either side of the plane for your outbound flight. Unfortunately the extra space seats on row 14 aren’t together on this plane as the middle bank of seats aren’t extra space. Therefore the team have allocated your to seats that are as similar as possible to your seats on the Dreamliner. For your flight home you’re in a row of 3 and then one across the aisle on row 10 as you’re flying back on a Dreamliner. I’m sorry for any disappointment this has caused. When paying for Premium Club, Extra Space and Extra Legroom seats we’re unable to guarantee that you’ll be sat together due to the configuration of the planes we use, you’re paying for the additional legroom and in Premium Club for the additional extras.

      • Sue Stephenson says: 21/04/2013 at 07:44

Thank you. I still don’t understand why we were moved from row 20 without our knowledge but unless thomson are prepared to swap the people on that row with the seats you mention for us I can see that isn’t going to be resolved. we specifically asked staff in your Thomson travel agent if extra leg room meant we also sit together and they confirmed this. Can you please feed back that store staff need to be briefed on this as it has led to quite a disappointing start to our holiday. I hope the rest goes smoothly.

Hi I am flying to Cancun from East Midlands on 8th May. Flight number TOM 676. Can you please tell me the registration of the plane we will be flying on, many thanks.

    • Dan @Thomson says: 15/04/2013 at 00:36

Hi Luke, We won’t know the exact plane is operating your flight until a few days before your flight as this can change up until the day for operational reasons.

  17. Mrs Marsh says: 13/04/2013 at 11:12

Hi were flying with you on the 10th oct to Antalya which size plane will we be flying on & where can i find the seating plan on your web site please

    • Samantha @Thomson says: 14/04/2013 at 00:58

Hi Mrs Marsh, If you could provide us with your booking reference, we’ll look into this for you. You won’t be able to view the seating plan until 90 days prior to your return flight.

  18. Joe says: 11/04/2013 at 14:39

    Hi

Do you know if the inside of your aircraft will be refitted soon as well.

    • Dan @Thomson says: 13/04/2013 at 05:47

Hi Joe, We don’t have any plans at the moment to refit the interiors on our Boeing 767 planes.

  19. Sue Lewis says: 07/04/2013 at 16:31

Hi we are flying to Boa Vista on the 5/6/13 and have paid to reserve our seats unfortunately we don’t know what plane you will be using, as my husband is rather tall it would be really helpfull to know the layout before we book.
    CAN YOU HELP PLEASE.

    • James @Thomson says: 10/04/2013 at 05:39

Hi Sue, Thanks for your message. If you’d like to send us your holiday booking reference we’ll be able to look into the type of aircraft for you and also check on the availability of any extra space seats.

  20. Sue Stephenson says: 07/04/2013 at 07:22

We are flying from gatwick to Sanford on 22/6 and returning 6/7 landing 7/7. We have booked extra legroom seats and can see the seats allocated to us online. On the way out the seat configuration is 2-3-2 and we are on row 10 which looks to be the wing emergency exit. We can see from your seating plans this is a 767. Can you tell us which plane we are coming home on please? The seating arrangement is 3-3-3 and we have been allocated row 20.

    • James @Thomson says: 10/04/2013 at 04:36

Hi Sue, Thanks for your message. Our flight seating arrangements 3-3-3 would suggest that you’re scheduled for our 787 Dreamliner for your return journey. If you’d like to send us your holiday reference we can confirm that with you.
