The wintry weather might be back out in force this week, but here at Thomson we’ve got some news that’ll brighten up your day.
We’re excited to announce that Thomson Cruises is welcoming another cruise ship – Thomson Majesty – into its ranks. She’ll be replacing Thomson Destiny, who’s retiring from the fleet after seven years.
So, what can you expect from the switch? Well, Thomson Majesty is spacious and modern, with cabins decked out in a contemporary style. Thomson Majesty also plays host to five restaurants and the full range of bars and entertainment venues – think stylish piano bars and lounges that bring you the best in entertainment. Another of the ship’s standout features is its spa. With two saunas and seven themed treatment rooms – including a couples’ massage room – it’s the ultimate relaxation zone.
Fraser Ellacott, Managing Director of Thomson Cruises, says: “We’re thrilled to be announcing that Thomson Majesty will be joining our fleet as part of our modernisation plans. Majesty is a fantastic ship with great onboard facilities, more outside cabins, and the same first-rate service you’d expect from Thomson Cruises.”
Thomson Majesty will be taking to the seas on 4th May 2012, when she sets sail from Corfu for the Adriatic Explorer cruise. She’ll then spend the winter in the Canaries, before heading back to the Eastern Mediterranean for summer 2013. Check out the Thomson Cruises website for the full rundown of itineraries.

Hi I have been on 30 plus Thomson Cruises starting with the Topaz. My wife recently died and I keep getting E-mails offering me deals Thomson Dream in May 2012 £499, £4.99 & £479 when I ring up the cost just for me is over £1.100. I went to Sweden in May on Thomson Spirit it cost me nearly £800 This was no flying from Newcastle. Cruise deals do not appear to help, I say I can go straight away if they have any late deals but nothing heard from them. I feel being let down with Thomsons over the years I have praised them to numerous people and friends & must have brought Thomsons a lot of trade. regards ernest
Hi Ernest, I’m sorry to hear that and offer my condolences to you. All of our deals are actioned by our Marketing team and we’re not aware of these before they may be sent out in the post or by email. Sometimes, if there aren’t any single cabins then supplements have to be added for twin berths which can increase the price. I’ll pass your feedback on to the relevant team about this for you.
Thank you ernest
Having booked our July 27th 2012 2 week cruise on The Destiny last Aug 2011,we paid £700 for 2 upgrades, then came the shambles of the ship change over,we eventually got allocated deck 8,no cabin until April 18th,then a scramble to get one without a lifeboat in the window, getting 890 was a bonus or so we thought, until the day before we sailed finding out the bed in 890 was a double pushed up against the wall, just how big was this cabin,Thomsons attitude to all of this shambles was take it or leave it,having booked with Thomsons for many years we decided to trust them.We walked the PLANK into the unknown at 10pm on the 27th July,at checkin was a welcoming face of JoJo who was on the Calypso 3 years ago,he new our names and even our evening tipples, rushed through the check in,rushed into cabin, then rushed into the Seven Seas Restaurant, then rushed into Jubilee Lounge for lifeboat drill at 10.45pm.We eventually found deck 10 for the sail away party, opening the door onto the deck,we could not believe it the whole deck was jumping and dancing away from Corfu, fantastic. We eventually retired to our cabin to unpack, not enough space for 14 days,my shirts stacked on top of the safe and cases behind the door.Being 71, I drew the short straw for the space against the wall, getting out of bed next morning into the 6 inch space at the bottom of the bed wasnt easy, the metal framed bed did not help I finished up with bruises on both legs.I did ask the following day about changing cabins, none available.I can honestly say that the cruise was fantastic and the destinations excellent, the bar service was first class, especially with JoJo,not just with us but everyone, the Seven Seas Restaurant was 5 star service and food all the way,Elvis,Pipet and Rik the wine waiter could not do enough for us,all our evening meals taken in the Seven Seas, open sitting not a problem,we ate at 6-30 every night, same table, same waiters, between 7pm and 8-30pm it got busy and the queue got longer, pick your time, early or late no problem. The all day buffet on deck 10 was fine, good choice, breakfast and evening meal.We had the A1 drinks package,a bit limited from 3 years ago,but adiquate, the only extra charged to my account was for bottled water £1.75 and £1 for speciality coffee, normal coffee is free and on tap 24 hours on deck 10.Now for the negatives, only 2 ladies and 2 gents toilets on open deck 10,queues when busy,I complained offically on 2nd week about cabin,I feel that my £700 upgrades on Destiny did not match in any way what I got on The Majesty,on our departure day we had to walk down deck 3 lowest priced cabins, all the doors open and the space in these cabins, well to say the least, very spacious twin bedded rooms, angry, you bet I was.Our Shell type case was cracked and our large holdall the handle broken and side split when we picked them up on the quay on departure, the Thomson rep said he would note it down.Thomsons involvement on the ship is just for entertainment and trip departures, the crew are all belonging to Louis Line who Thomsons lease their ships from,it works but is it right ?My overall thoughts are positive, both cruises on The Majesty are fantastic and we enjoyed every minute of them, did I spend my £4500 wisely, the jury is still out regarding my £700 upgrades, see what my letter will do.To all you Destiny moaners and groaners who have attacked this ship get a life and move on,would I use Thomsons again, certainly, but they need to understand that customer service matters and not a take it or leave it attitude everyone got ,I can stand the bruises from the bed,but they are bruises a 71 year old should not have to take
Hi Malcolm and Nina, Thanks for your feedback about your time on the ship.
The entertainment on the ship is by Peel, not Thomson.
If you say so Grez, they must be the agents handling it for Thomsons,to be quite honest, being in the entertainment business, its still run by Thomsons,Peel who ever they are just supply it,as I do.
Hi, how much would it cost to upgrade our cabin from an inside plus to outside plus? We are travelling on 31st August, Pearls of the Aegean. Would there be any decent cabins left to upgrade to as it is so close to going?
Hi Hayley, You’d need to call our Cruise Team on 0844 871 0872 to find out prices and availability of upgrades.
Hi Thomson
we have just come back from a week on the majesty what an amazing experience. the ship, the crew, the enterainment staff, the bar staff, the waiters (especially William) everyone so friendly and always there with a smile. a big shout out to Beth she is by far one of the most amazing singers i have heard in a long time, i will definitely be recommending this to family and friends and i will definitely book a thomson cruise in the near future. the ports of call were amazing all really worth getting off the ship to explore.
there are unfortunately a couple of complaints I would like to draw your attention to firstly when i collected my luggage from the ship to put onto the bus the wheels had been broken off making it very difficult to carry a heavy case i did report this to a rep at the airport ( which she was not very helpful to be honest) and told me to emil thomson when i got home I am very annoyed that this has happened and there was no assist or help given to me my your reps ( I have taken photos of the case damaged that i can forward to you) I would also like an address that i can write and send these photos to please.
Second thing was when we opened our cabin there was a single bed and a bunk bed – i was told that there would be 3 single beds we are 3 girls in our 30′s and I find this very upsetting to think that your company with think we would find this acceptable as a sleeping quaters we ended up taking the matteress from the top bunk each evening and putting it on the floor as it was impossible for any of us to get onto the top bunk as there was no room from the bed to the ceiling.
We were told by Cassidy travel when booking the cruise that the drinks package wasnt great and that we would be better just paying for our drinks as it was all only local drinks supplied when we got to the poolside on the first day this was not the case and we were upset to realize this and we have ended up spending above and over the price that the all inclusive would have cost us. I think you should point this to cassidy travel as its wrong information they are sending to potential Thomson travellers.
In saying all this about the complaints it still does not put me off booking another cruise with Thomson which I am hoping to arrange soon and hopefully get all my family to go on it.
Regards
Barbara
Hi Barbara, I’m pleased that you did enjoy your holiday on the Majesty. I’m sorry to hear about the issues which you did have whilst you were there, and I’m sorry that you didn’t find the holiday advisor helpful. In regards to your baggage, please contact our After Travel Team by using the online form -http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/send-us-an-email-postTravel.html, and they’ll be able to look into this for you. In regards to your room arrangement, I’d recommend that you add this into your complaint as well, so that can be investigated too.
In regards to the All Inclusive Drinks Package, we don’t advise 3rd party travel agents that it’s better to just pay for drinks on the Cruise, and we don’t advise that to our customer’s either. I’m sorry that Cassidy Travel have advised this to you, and I’ll pass feedback onto the relevant team in regards to this.
hi Amarita
many thanks for your advise
regards
Barbara
I had a wonderful holiday on Majesty in July. Staff on this ship worked very hard and we were so well looked after. The itinerary is fabulous. A holiday to remember for all the right reasons.
Hi. I was wondering what time the safety check will take place? Is it now before we leave port on the first evening?
The majority of passengers will be onboard by the early evening, so the main drill takes place at 6pm. Any flights that arrive later than this will have a separate drill. You’re welcome to go ashore before or after the drill as long as you’re onboard to take part.
Hi, thanks for some very useful information and comments. Could anyone tell me about Full Board accommodation, as the Thomson staff I’ve spoken to have not given a clear answer. I would like to know if Full Board covers all food at all times eg a snack at 10pm in the 24 hour buffet? The All Inclusive upgrade seems to be for alcohol, not food and at £199 per person seems a lot – or are drinks that expensive?? Is tea and coffe included in Full Board at all times? We’ve booked an outside plus cabin on deck 6 or 7, departing Corfu on August 10th. You’ve probably guessed we are first time cruisers, so getting excited now!
hi gail,
full board does include all meals and snacks at all times of the day, tea and coffee are available i think in the dining areas, but i think if you want coffee outside of these areas you may have to pay for them.
as for the all inclusive drinks package, it really depends how much you are likely to drink, generally speaking the prices last year when we went were around £3.30 for a pint of beer and similar for spirits with a mixer, cocktails around £4. also in the all inc package are soft drinks, so it really does depend on the amount you are likely to drink during you hols, i also should have mentioned, with the all inc, you can also have wine with evening meals,
hope this helps, have a lovely holiday, we are doing pearls of the aegean and adriatic explorer back to back in six weeks time and cant wait.
Full board does mean all food, ie buffet is open 24hours and you can go anytime, I was on Majesty in July and ate breakfast and diner in Seven seas or four seasons and usually had lunch at buffet, I had a wonderful holiday staff were excellent. (by the way ice cream during the day you have to pay for.) Am sure you will have a great holiday.
We were on the Majesty on 6 July all food and snacks are included even at 1am in the morning from the buffet. You only have to pay extra (was £19 when we were on board) at the A la carte restaurant. Tea and coffee is included with your meals in the restaurants. You can obtain tea/coffee/water on deck 10 at all times which are included. Draught beer was £3 50 a pint, cocktails around £4 50 and wine £3 95 for a small glass. Hope this helps
Hi Gail, Yes food is available at all times of the day, included in the basic cost. The only extra charge was for the a la carte restaurant, the food was excellent but not sure if it’s worth the extra £19 each. Drinks are not that expensive, more or less the same as you would expect to pay at home. We were on the same cruise end of June, the itinerary was great. Enjoy!!!
hiya, full board is all food at all times apart from the premium restaurant. £199 for all inclusive is a good deal if you drink a few drinks a day, it all depends on yourself, but you can’t buy this onboard. Tea and coffee are included if you go to the buffet and serve yourself, or after your meal in the main restaurants. You’ll be charged if you order in the bars. Sure you’ll have a great time.
Yes, all meals and snacks covered by full board, plus tea coffee etc when in the restaurants.
Pint of lager is about £3.50. On a week cruise on Spirit in April the wife and I racked up drinks bill of £280 and we are not big drinkers. This includes soft drinks during the day. So to to make the AI pay make merry.
Tip:- if you enjoy the cruise experience, and you will, if you fancy Thomson again for next year in the Med book it asap and you should get the AI package included free.
Have a good cruise.
What is the situation with pool towels on the last day please ?. We will be on the ship until about 7pm when we leave for the airport. Destiny used to have a stack by the pool for such a reason. On other ships it hasn’t mattered as we were getting off 9/10am..
Hi John, Can you let me know which flight you’re returning on please by giving me the return date, return airport and flight code and I’ll check this for you.
There are plenty of towels at pool area on day of departure.
Hi John, There are loads of towels around the pool on day of departure,
Thanks Janice, that will do us.
What is the voltage like in cabins on the majesty? When on the destiny last year had to use plugs in corridor for GHDs – will this be the case on majesty? Debating leaving them at home! Thanks
Hi Lou, The voltage in the Destiny is American-style 110 volts AC, flat two-pin and the 220-volt round two-pin European variety. There’s two plug sockets in each cabin, so you’ll be able to plug your GHD’s into one of these with an adapter.
Hi Lou if I were you I would take a small hairdryer as the hairdryers are in the bathroom area and take ages to dry your hair also you hold others up wishing to use the bathroom. Just take an adapter with you.
Hi, I am going on the Majesty on the 3rd August, could you tell me whether any of the Olympic Games will be shown on the ship. Thank You.
Hi Keith, Unfortunately I can’t guarantee that the Olympic Games will be shown, however they will try to show these as we know a lot of our customer’s will want to keep up to date with the Olympics.
Hi, we are travelling on Friday 27th and thinking of packing a suit and cocktail/evening dress for the captain’s dinner. Is it worth the hassle? Not even sure if I want to dress quite so formally on holiday! usually do smart caual! How ‘formal’ do we need to be? Is it well attended?
I’m sorry we missed your post before you travelled, Jeanie. But on formal night, the dress code is a little more black tie – although a normal suit is fine too.
Hi Jeanie, The Captain’s Dinner is quite formal, and the dress code is traditional evening wear. Men are required to wear a tuxedo or suit and tie, and women should wear evening dress. ^Amarita
jeanie, you don’t have to attend the captains night its not compulsary, you can just go in to the restaurant or any where else you choose to eat, we just had a few drinks in one of the bars then went to the reataurant. captains night is always well attended but equally lots of people choose not too, having a few drinks seemed the better option for us rather than stand for ages to get you foto done when we had no intention of buying them anyway
Just returned from a wonderful cruise of the Aegean and Adriatic and have enjoyed some breathtaking destinations especially Venice and Kotor in Montenegro. The Thomson team on the Majesty work tirelessly to ensure you have a good holiday, fun deck parties, entertaining shows with all styles of music throughout the ship. It is a superb holiday for families the Kid’s Club hosts provide a fun packed programme for the young and what I noticed this year was the number of families returning to Thomson because the kids want to go back and this is includes the growing number of teenagers all enjoying the holiday experience of cruising. Well done to all the staff who successfully deliver a fantastic holiday experience.
Hi does anyone know if the outside cabins on deck 8 are the same size as the others on lower decks . Shows a different picture for these on the Thomson website when going through a mock booking
Hi lou cabins on deck 8 are a mixture, certainly not spacious, adiquate is about right.Ours 890 was a glorified cupboard with a double bed accross the window with 6 inches at the bottom to get out of,our legs are black and blue, not joking. Our 2 week cruise back on the 10th Aug was fantastic could not fault it,the crew ,waiters are fantastic enjoy your cruise just watch your legs.
Hi, has anyone stayed in outside cabins 646,648 or 650? These are described as “outside” and not “outside plus”. Any comments would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi Karen,
If the cabins are two berth outside standard they are smaller than outside plus which are three or four berth. We had a standard outside on deck four which are the same size as a standard outside on deck six for two weeks. We found that for a two week holiday it was a bit snug and storage space was a bit limited but as you only spend a small amount of time in your cabin we got by. It’s ok for a week but for two weeks we would upgrade to an outside plus.
Thanks Dave. We are going for just one week on 10th August so should manage without any problems. Hope you enjoyed your cruise!
Hi we stayed in 646 the 2nd week majesty went into service, good position, we had no noise & was close to lifts.
A bit tight for space if you have adouble bed but otherwise we found it fine
Hope you have a good time
Thanks very much Mandy. Really looking forward to going now that reviews seem to be getting much better. We had chosen deck 5 on the Destiny but cabins were limited when we went to re-arrange on the Majesty. We were only offered the outside cabins and not the outside plus! Not too concerned though after reading your comments. Thanks again.
Just returned from a fantastic adiatic coast and pearls of the aegean cruise, I would like to first of all say I was extremely apprehensive due to some of the comments on this blog, as some of the other cruisers have said ‘if you go with an open mind you wont be dissapointed. the entertainment was good and the songs from the musicals / tribute to abba and tribute to queen were outstanding, the food was really good and always hot, if you didnt fancy the menus in the main restaurant then there was always the buffet on deck 10 where you could always find something to suit your tastebuds, also the bistro got rave reviews from people on the cruise (didnt need to use it so cant comment from a personal point of view, for those of you who are into jogging deck 7 anytime before 07.00 (they start putting the sunbeds out around this time) 4 laps = 1 mile. I would thoroughly reccommend the adriatic coast cruise the scenery is amazing and a special thanks to Thomson for changing to Montenegro from Brindisi, Montenegro is one of the nicest countries I have been to and the sail into the port is beyond words. finally a big thanks to all of the hardworking staff on the Majesty they really are at your beck and call and always with a smile, this is the first time we have cruised with Thomson, but deffinately not the last
Hi Tom, I’m glad you enjoyed your cruise. I’ll be sure to pass your positive comments onto the relevant team. Thank you for these comments.
The more comments I am reading the more I am looking forward to sailing on 10th August. Can’t wait!!
That’s great to hear, Karen. I hope you have a fantastic time on 10th.
Please could anyone help? We are booked on the Majesty in September with my husband’s parents. We would like to go on one of the excursions when we dock in Dubrovnik and thought that the Medieval Dubrovnik sounded good. It has been classed as a “moderate” for walking but this appears to cover all sorts of ground. My father in law is by no means in-firm but has trouble walking great distances and is a bit unsteady on his feet on rough ground. He is quite happy to go on the trip and wait for everyone else to go and do the sites that he can’t get to but if these take up the majority of the day we wouldn’t want him to have to do this. We have got a portable lightweight wheelchair we could take if the ground was going to be suitable. Could anyone who has been on this trip, or Thomsons, let me know how the day is made up so that we can decide whether to book it or not?
Hi Lynn, This is a lovely tour and you’re more than welcome to take a foldable wheelchair with you – it just has to be stored at the gangway onboard if you haven’t booked an adapted cabin. The tour itself includes a two-hour walking tour and about an hour of free time. You’ll either arrive by boat at one of the town and leave by coach from the other end, or vice versa. There are around 60 steps in the museum you’ll visit as part of the tour and a few steps to the coach but for the most part the ground is as smooth as marble and mostly flat. I hope this helps with your decision. ^Amarita
Have been on a few Thomson cruises in the past, and must say I feel a little concerned after reading some of he comments.
We are travelling next Friday so can only live in hope.
What would you say is the percentage of Women and Men getting dressed up for Captains night? Is it worth packing posh frocks and Dinner Suit.
Hi Julie, We advise that the dress code for the Captain’s Cocktail party is traditional dinner wear. So this would be a tuxedo or suit and tie for men and evening dress for women. I hope this helps, and I hope you enjoy your cruise.
Went on the Majesty 6 July, although as you can gather from the comments this ship is rather dissappointing against the Dream and Celebration, there were quite a lot of people dressed for the Captains night. My husband took his dinner suit and we were not out of place was worth taking, a nice maxi dress is suitable for the ladies and a suit and tie is also suitable for the men. Weight is also a problem now the weight has been dropped to 20Kgs.
hi julie, did the captains night on consecutive weeks, I would say the dress code was very smart, there were’nt as many men wearing tuxedos, but all wore a suit & tie with about 50% wearing a bow tie, about the same amount of ladies wore evening gowns. I would suggest you go for it, if only for the photographs you have taken during the night, by the onboard proffessional photographers.
have a great cruise
what are teenagers expected to wear for the captains dinner please? Is a shirt & tie sufficient or is a jacket required?
Hi Julie, At the Captain’s Dinner the dress code for all is traditional dinner wear, therefore men are required to wear a tuxedo or suit and tie, and women are required to wear evening dress. ^Amarita
Can anyone tell me what the whell chair adapted cabins are like
Many thanks
Hi John, The wheelchair adapted cabins are fairly spacious with ramped access and adapted bathrooms.
Thanks very much for your reply
Can you tell what the beds are like singles or double
John
Hi John Paul, The adapted cabins have twin beds.
Has anyone stayed in the Outside cabins on deck 6 and not the Outside PLUS? Thomson are charging a higher supplement for the Outside but reading description, Outside PLUS are bigger and have a fridge. We were given the Outside instead of the pre-booked outside cabins we had booked on the Destiny. Would upgrade to an Outside Plus if needed but judging by the supplements, would be due a refund!!!!! Doesn’t make sense does it???
Hi Karen, I’ve checked and our Outside Plus cabins do usually carry a higher supplement than our Outside cabin. If you weren’t given the correct cabin, I’d suggest that you contact our After Travel Team – http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/send-us-an-email-postTravel.html.
Hi, we are leaving on the 3rd of august for a week and wondered about drinks on board? are any included in our price? like tea, coffee, water? or things like fruit juice at breakfast? and are there drinks packages available? we are not big alcohol drinkers but will drink mostly water and soft drinks.
Also are there any toiletries provided in our cabins?
Hi Alyson, In order for me to have a look at what’s included in your booking I’ll need your reference number. Can you send this me and I’ll be able to see whether any drink packages are included or are available for you.
Hi Alyson we have just returned from a week on the Majesty. Tea, coffee & water are available on a help yoursel basis on deck 10 at all times of day. Fruit juice is available at breakfast time in both the restaturants and the help yourself buffet on deck 10. Tea, coffee & water are included in your meals at lunchtime and evening in the restaurants. Bottled water is available at a charge of £1.75 for 1.5ltr bottle. We were given the opportunity to purchase a wine package and a beer package once on board. Hope this helps.
All tea, coffee, water, these are freely available through out the day, fruit juice available at breakfast, you do not need a drinks package for these
my eperience on previous thomson cruises, you can get fruit juices and water and of course tea and coffee, at meal times,if you have not got an all inclusive package, you will have to purchase any other drinks, hope this helps.
Thanks everyone, this helps a lot. I’m so excited as its my first cruise
Returned on friday from a week on Majesty. 1st I should say we enjoyed our holiday . Staff are very nice and are as good as any I met on previous cruises with alternate companys. Entertainment was much better than I expected considering they have a limited cast. Some shows are very good. Drinks for those who are paying are a little more expensive than pub prices. The real let down is the ship its self , its old and showing it. Cabins are very small and decor dated.
Best analogy , ship is a slice of bread ,dry turning up at the edges but not quite mouldy . The crew is the honey that makes it edible.
Have a great holiday , its only as much fun as you make it.
Hi Phlopy, I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed your holiday on the Majesty. I’ll be sure to pass your feedback onto our After-Travel Team. Thank you for the comments. ^Amarita
I agree entirely with your assesment of the ship. It’s in dire need of a makeover asap. You are quite right the staff on board are brilliant, and help to make a brilliant holiday, we enjoyed the Adriatic Explorer immensley. Looking forward to booking another cruise soon but unfortunately not on Majesty.
Thanks for your comments James. I’ll be sure to pass your feedback on and I’m glad you’re thinking about booking another cruise.
Could you tell me if on the Majesty there is a bureau de change or do you have to take the correct currency for every port of call…
Hi Megan, You’re able to exchange small amounts of money on board by cash or traveller’s cheques, however small charges may apply.
can anyone advise on which currency we might need on the two itiniaries, pearls of the aegean and adriatic explorer???? any comments welcome.
Just returned from the Pearls of the Aegean and all we took were the Euro it is welcome in all ports of call.
They are all happy to take the euro or the good old British pound, have a good time.
thanks for all your replies, really looking forward to our holiday .
Euros accepted in all ports
Euros accepted in all the ports
Hi, our travel agent sid to us a mixture of turkish lira and euros.
If you want to walk the walk in Dubrovnik and go on the cable cars you will need Kuna, or use visa card.
Were only doing the adriatic part of the cruise, but have seen on some other cruise forums to take a small amount of croatian kuna as well as euros. Euros can be used at the croatian ports but apparently its better value to use kuna.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am disappointed that I have had no reply to this letter, I have booked 3 cruises with you since and sailed again on the Dream 30/06/12 so as you can see I am not complaining about Thomson in general, just this particular cruise on the Majesty that we did not want to go in the first place. R Harvey.
Dear Mr Robinson
Thank you for your reply although I do not feel that you truly appreciated our level of dissatisfaction /disappointment from this cruise.
Having cruised with Thomson several times we knew what to expect this was the reason we continued to book.
As soon as we became aware of the change of ship (from the newspaper not Thomson) which was only a few weeks after paying the balance I contacted Thomson with my concerns. I was informed that I could not cancel without losing the full cost, if I had been informed of the changes a few weeks earlier I would have cancelled, all be it losing the deposit.
That left us no option than to take this cruise even though the main reason for our choosing Thomson (the evening entertainment – Broadway style shows) had been removed.
We felt deceived and that our hard earned money had been taken under false pretenses. Thomson came across as uncaring towards customers once they had your money.
In reply to your advice re the Royal Observatory, we did go there and found this also to be very busy particularly around meal times as passengers would dine there with food from the buffet restaurant. There wasn’t really what you would call evening entertainment being performed.
In reply to your statement;-
‘Whilst not put forward in any way as an excuse, this was the third sailing of the ship under Thomson and we are using all customer feedback contained within any letters of complaint received or customer comments made on board, to see where improvements can be made.’
This may have only been the third week of sailing but this was not our problem, this was not the holiday we booked. Had we had the choice we would not have booked this cruise as it did not meet our needs. We would of still travelled with Thomson on one of the other ships where we would have paid for a cruise that we had chosen not been forced to take.
You also stated
I’m truly sorry that on this occasion, we were unable to provide a cruise which, for you, fully met your expectations in all areas
My answer to that statement is to remind you that Thomson were notified several times prior to our taking the cruise that we were not happy and therefore knew at that time that they would not be providing a cruise that would met our expectations but were not prepared to provide any solution.
This was a 2nd class cruise for which we paid 1st class prices and would expect some offer of compensation for the standard of the cruise and the way this whole situation has been handled
This experience will not deter us from travelling with Thomson in the future although it is very unlikely that we would ever chose to sail on the majesty again, We have already booked for the Dream and hopefully we will enjoy the high standard that we expect from yourselves. R Harvey.
Hi Rob, I can see that our After Travel Team sent a response out on 16th July via email so you should have now received this. If you’re unhappy with the response from our After Travel Team, you’ll need to contact the Advisor directly on the number they’ve provided at the bottom of the email as unfortunately the Social Media Team are unable to personally respond to complaints.
I must agree about the Royal observatory, we were on the ship in June and went to the royal observatory after dinner only to find we were sitting next to people having a 3or 4 dinner next to us, it should be stopped.
Thanks for your feedback Bob, I’ll be sure to pass your comments on regarding the dinner arrangements.
We have just returned from 2 weeks on The Majesty. We had an absolutely brilliant time on this cruise. The ship is lovely and spotless. We ate in the Seven Seas every evening and the food was of excellent standard..piping hot and during the 2 weeks the same thing did not appear on the menu twice. The waiters we had were brilliant..Elvis, Pipit and Delphino our wine waiter treated us like royalty. Would also like to mention Stefan & Ferdinand, head waiters who couldn’t do enough for us. As far as the entertainment goes, it was excellent. The Thomson entertainment team are all of very high standard, and their shows were great. The bar staff were all fantastic, in particular Jhun in Coffee Bar, Lorenzo in Casino and Nenita in Jubilee Lounge. We have been on the Destiny a few times and we loved it, but I can honestly say the Majesty is a lovely ship and I cannot understand the bad reviews it has had, other than these idiots are just looking for compensation or are serial moaners. Most of the crew that we had become friendly with on The Destiny are now on the Majesty and are all a credit to Thomsons. We cannot wait to book our next cruise on the Majesty and I would say to anyone already booked or thinking of booking, go for it…you will not be sorry.
I agree with Janice that the ship is lovely and just as good as the Destiny. However, the dining situation in the Seven Seas has not been resolved. On our first night we were asked by one of the waiters what time would we like to dine for the rest of our cruise, we said around 8.15pm, he then offered to save a table for us each evening. We declined the offer as a matter of principle. However, some people had no principles whatsoever and that became very obvious as the days passed. There was a queue most evenings outside the Seven Seas and most people queued and took their turn until the M’aitre De told them that a place was available. However, we noticed on several nights that many groups of people walked straight past the queue and the Maitre De and were taken to their saved table. He appeared to be aware of what was going on and waved some of them past.
This issue needs addressing, Janice might not have been treated like royalty if she had had to queue with the rest of us.
Hi Miffed, I’m sorry that you feel that way about the dining situation in Seven Seas. I’ll be sure to pass your feedback onto the relevant team, and we do appreciate your comments.
Hi Janice,
It’s those “idiots” who complain who get things put right to help others like you have a better holiday afterward. We had cold water in the shower which took a week to resolve ,a door lock which nearly fell off,a broken toilet seat and several other problems . Had we stuck our heads in the sand and not complained the people who had the cabin after us would have had the problems. I agree moaning but taking no action is a wasteful pastime but not as bad as calling people idiots when their actions have helped other people have a better time because they have got things put right.
Hi Dave, I’m sorry to hear about the problems you experiencied on your cruise. Thank you for bringing these to our attention so that we can fix these. I’ll also pass your feedback on.
Hi Amrita,
I think you might have misunderstood my comment, we complained whilst on the ship and got the problems sorted. My point to Janice was that people who complain and get problems resolved are not idiots as she implies but help Thomson to provide a better service to people who follow us and get the benefit of us taking the time to get things sorted instead of ignoring problems.
I’m sorry I misunderstood your comment Dave. Thank you for your comments, and response.
Are there coffee and tea making facilities in the cabins on the Thomson Majesty and if there are, are the sachets etc replaced regularly ? Tanks
Hi Ian, You won’t find tea and coffee making facilities in the cabins on the Majesty but you can get plenty of tea and coffee on board the ship.
Can you tell me why the supplement to upgrade to a Deck 6/7 outside cabin costs more than to upgrade to a Deck 6/7 outside PLUS cabin please? From reading the description, the outside PLUS is bigger and has a fridge! We had pre-booked our cabins on the Destiny and when asked to call into our local Thomson shop to choose cabins on the Majesty, we were only offered Deck 6 outside. This seems unfair if the outside PLUS are better!!
Hi Karen, Without seeing your booking I’d be unable to confirm supplement rates so I’d recommend getting your Travel Agent to give our Cruise Team a call and they’ll be able to explain the charges.
Hi Rhiannon,
On the Thomson Cruise Website the supplement for the OUTSIDE cabin on deck 6 is more than the OUTSIDE PLUS!!! Just wondered if you could explain why. No problems, suppose will have to have what was given!!!
Hi Karen, I’ve checked and generally the outside plus cabin does carry a higher supplement than the outside cabin on deck 6.
could it be possible to tell me which cabin we will be in as i might want to upgrade we travel on the 24th aug doing a cruise & stay also on the formal night do the men wear dinner suits or just smart and casual
Hi Mick, If you want to find out what cabin you’ll be in then you’ll need to give our Cruise Team a call on 0844 871 0872. And for formal night, the dress code is a little more black tie – although a normal suit is fine too.
Thanks phoned they cant tell me until we get there so there is no point upgrading as i dont know where we are paid £2800for this stay and cruise and they cant tell me which cabin iwill be in very poor but thanks Rhiannon.
I recently posted asking about the possibility of a party of twelve of us having our evening meal together , or in close proximity .We sail on the Majesty in a couple of weeks , any advice regarding this would be appreciated .
Hi James, I did send a response through so sorry you didn’t see it.
Ive pasted it again -
Our main restaurant is open-sitting, which means it’s first come first served. The only restaurant that takes reservations is Le Bistro, the à la carte venue.
Returned from Mykonos last Friday teatime into Manchester where there was a deluge. We had to climb down slippery metal steps and walk through large puddles to the terminal, in the pouring rain. No one cares. 6 weeks ago we went with thomson to Corfu, where we were kept in an airport queue for 1.5 hours in the blazing sun on our return. The rep blamed easy jet’s better relationship with Corfu airport!
No one cares.
Thomson are not so big that people can’t take their business elsewhere. I’m very lucky, recently retired and have had 5 Thomson holidays in the past year. Goodbye Thomson!
I’m sorry you feel that way, Pauline. If you do want to raise your concerns with our After Travel Team, you can contact them here – http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/legal/contact-us.html
We have just returned from a great cruise on the Majesty. Food was geat and lots of it.Entertainment I must agree was a bit of a let down. We would definatley book again. We were on level 6 with outside cabin.
Thank you to all in Le Bistro and the singing waiters for making my 60th very memorable.
Were you in an outside or outside PLUS cabin on Deck 6 please? What did you think of the cabin? We have booked outise cabins on Desk 6 for our cruise in August.
Just returned from Adriatic Explorer, had a wonderful time on board, the itinerary was excellent, Koper, Venice, Split, Dubrovnick and Kotor superb. The entry and exit from Venice were spellbinding. Food really good, as were the staff always smiling and happy. Food in the restaurants was good, ate in the 7 seas and the 4 seasons, did not like the buffet, reminicent of staff canteen, not what one would expect on a cruise ship. Too much of a scrabble not what I expect. The downside has to be the cabins, really small and slightly grubby, could do with a serious makeover. Shower rooms small and tiling again grubby, a refit seriously in need. Many people mentioned the less than white linen, they were not joking. Bring it up to scratch Thomson, you are spoiling the ship for a haporth of tar!!! The windows need new seals and a good clean, the view from the Royal Observatory would have been so much better with clean windows. Still saw some wonderful sunsets. JD, the waiter in the Observartory was a delight, so funny and a whizz with the magic tricks and his grasp of languages outstanding. So Thomson’s get your act together, improve the shower’s and replace the bedding, fresh linens and new plump pillows will be really welcome.
Hi James, Thanks for sharing your comments with us and I’ll pass these on to our Cruise Team.
Dear Thomson,
Again I have asked Thomas Cook director to take this up before 27 July 2012. It is not much to ask for clean sheets. Clean windows etc
Hi Ray,
I’m not sure I understand. Have you contacted Thomas Cook regarding this?
Hi jst returned from week on thomson majesty. Our first cruise and absolutely loved it. Staff so friendly food fantastic and air conditioning wonderful. On third decktwo windows spacious cabin. So peaceful at night. we are it hing ti book another. Well done thomsons x
Dear Susanne don’t book early ‘for best offers’ as Thomson say! I booked last november and have found out to my cost that if I was to book in these last 4 weeks i would have saved over £1000 yes ONE THOUSAND POUND for my husbands 2 wk cruise. make you think??? save your cash and book when it’s closer to the time for your holiday.
Have just returned from two week on the Majesty, had a great cabin, food was good and plenty of choice, but felt let down by the entertainment, most of the first weeks shows were repeated the second week, including the UK guest artist, which spoilt the second week for us. plenty of game shows etc, but if like us your not into these not a lot to do in the evenings
Have been on a number of Thomsons cruises and have booked for the Adriatic on the Majesty in September. Previously the all inclusive included draught Stella, Boddies, Ron Bacardi and Bombay Saphire Gin. Can anyone tell me if these are still included. If not what are the alternatives. Thanks
Hi Billy, We have a Greek draught beer onboard Thomson Majesty and you’ll find Barcardi and Bombay Sapphire gin are both included in the All Inclusive package.
Not happy. We’re paying £398 for greek beer !!
I am booked to go on the Majesty on the 25th of August, I was wondering do they do draft cider in the bars, and if so is it on the AI package.
We don’t have draught cider onboard Thomson Majesty as part of the All Inclusive package. But it’s available by the bottle but there is a supplement for this.
someone told us it was san miguel the draught beer.
Can you please tell us how much the supplement is for the cider, and is it a large bottle.?
At the moment, the supplement for cider on the Majesty is £1.90 but this is subject to change.
Hi I stayed on the Majesty 1st June 2012 had a great week, however I need to know the song title which was played around the pool by the trio band – it was onr of the shadows.
Hopefully some of our community who’ve been on the Majesty recently will be able to help you with this one, Wendy. And I’m glad you enjoyed your time on the ship.
Hi…I`m going next week on the Majesty for the Eastern Med trip for one week.Looking forward to this. However, after reading a few comments regarding seating arrangements/standing room in the lounge etc/waiting over 30 mins to disembark etc,I`m a little concerned for my step father who is disabled…can you reassure me a little regarding the fact ,that there appears to be not enough seats etc to go round?…
Also, are the electric sockets in the cabin 2 pin/3 pin or do I have to bring
a travel adaptor?
First cruise with family to celebrate 25th wedding anniversary,so please Thompson make this a cruise to remember….
Have you spoken to our Customer Welfare team? They are there to help any guests who need special assistance during their holiday. If you haven’t already let us know about your step father’s disability, give them a call and they’ll be able to help. This is especially important if he needs to use a wheelchair while he’s onboard.
In the meantime, rest assured that there are generally more than enough seats to go around. That said, some entertainment items are more popular than others so it’s worth getting there early.
In terms of leaving the ship, once we have clearance from the local authorities to go ashore disembarking is a smooth and hassle-free process. There are busy times of the day – when organised trips are leaving or boarding the ship – and at ports where we tender to shore disembarking will take a little longer.
On Thomson Majesty, there are two types of sockets in the cabins. They’re both two-pin – one flat and one round, or US and European if you like – so you’ll need an adaptor.
We hope you have a wonderful holiday and enjoy your anniversary celebrations.
