Talented vocalists, live bands and UK comedians… you’ll be entertained around the clock on Thomson Cruises’ latest ship, Thomson Majesty.
You’ve probably seen our big announcement (A Royal Debut – Thomson Majesty) by now – Thomson Cruises is welcoming another ship into its ranks. Thomson Majesty is replacing old favourite, Thomson Destiny, who’s hanging up her hat after 7 years in the fleet. The new vessel is a decade younger than her predecessor, so she’s in ship shape (pun intended), with more contemporary cabins, 5 restaurants, and a spa, which features 7 treatment rooms and 2 saunas.
As for when the sun goes down, there’s the full spectrum of bars and entertainment venues, and you can expect the usual high standards. There’ll be a resident group of vocalists called the Majesty Singers, who’ll take you from the bright lights of Vegas to a rock-off with Queen. And a lot of performances will be choreographed, so you can expect show-like elements. Because the Thomson Majesty’s main stage is round, though, with seats around the edge, there isn’t much room for acrobatic dance moves. It means the performances will be more ‘Chicago’ than ‘Fame’.
You can look forward to deck parties, solo performances, cabaret-style acts, live bands and high-profile piano entertainers, too. Plus, there’ll be a UK comedian live on stage every week, as well as a second special guest act.
All in all, there’s plenty in store from morning ‘til evening – take a look at the Thomson Cruises website for more info.

I am on the Majesty from the 8th March. Just wondered if there were tea/coffee making facilities in the cabins and whether the noise on deck 4 is as bad as the tripadvisor reviews make out? I have upgraded to an outside plus on 3/4 but wonder whether it is wiser to go for a higher deck?? Many thanks
Hi Jane, Thomson Majesty does have tea and coffee-making facilities in the premium cabins and tea and coffee is available in the buffet restaurants. In regards to the reviews on Trip Advisor, these are subjective and what may be one person’s ideal holiday, may not be to someone else. However, some of our cruise community on this blog may be able to share their experiences with you.
We are going on the Majesty in June for 1 week from Corfu. Is there a drinks menu available to view online (we bought the drinks package of which there was only one to be had, so no idea what kind of their so-called table wines there are & whether the is a choice of whites, reds, roses) for the drinks package & also for all other drinks which are not covered by the package ?
Thanks.
Hi Angela, Unfortunately it’s not possible to view the bar menu online however, white, red and rose house wines are included in the drinks package. If you’d like named wines, you can buy by the glass or alternatively receive a £2.00 discount on a bottle of wine.
Going on Majesty 2 March. We don’t go for shows much and are sad there is no cinema as there was on a Red Sea cruise and wonder if there is an alternative on Majesty – daytime movies or what selection of channels on the oh so small t.v.?
Hi Lesley, There’s movie channels that will always be showing in your cabin. Other channels will vary due to the location of the ship.
Hi when we cruised in 2005 on Thompson Spirit they had pssenger entertainment for one night, we are on Majesty in June doing a back to back cruise and I would like to know do you still do this type of entertainment
Hi Robert, We offer entertainment on all of our cruise ships. If you go to the following link – http://www.thomson.co.uk/cruise/ships/thomson-majesty-ship-details.html, you’ll be able to see what sort of entertainment we offer.
Not long returned from a fantastic weeks cruising on Thomson Majesty Agean pearls tour 12Oct -19 th Oct great value for money entertainment good cabin, food, general cleanliness and friendly crew were first class. A most memorable sail. well done Thomson i’ll be back next year.
please canyou tell me what night is the captains diner on the cruise on the 28 dec thanks
Hi Linda, The Captains Dinner will usually be on the day at sea which will be day 5 of your cruise. They may have to change this, but you’ll be advised when you’re on board the confirmed day.
just returned from a thomson crise the adriatic and pearls of aegean 27/7/12 – 10/8/12 and was very disappointed with the ship and the staff did make a complaint on board witch hopefully went to head office, was just wondering if anyone that was on the ship for the same two weeks as me went home with any stomach troubles?
Hi Ashley, It’s disappointing to hear this. You’d need to also send your complaint through to the After Travel team even if this was noted while onboard. You can do this via the link – http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/send-us-an-email-postTravel.html.
we were on the ship 24aug for a week had a great no complaints at all cabin very good ent good we have booked again for december been on most of thomson ships it is one of the best
i was also on the ship 24th aug, not once did any of our party have stomach problems, food, staff, everything was excellent
does anyone know any names of the entertainment team on board the Majesty at the moment? (singers, dancers, hosts etc)
Hi Charlotte, The bands onboard at the moment are the Muzzik Unlimited band, Elegant touch and Trio & Vadasz Duo.
Hi, just returned and had a fantastic time. Entertainment was excellent. Only wish I had purchased a CD of Muzzik Unlimited – absolutely fantastic – we watched them most evenings in the Polo Lounge. I have asked Thomson how I can purchase CD now I’ve returned home but are still awaiting their comments. If you are going on the Majesty, I’m sure you will enjoy.
We have just done the Adriatic Explorere cruise on Thomson Majesty. Anyone who is planning to go and has read bad reviews , IGNORE THEM!!We had a great time. Loved the ship, even better than Destiny. Great crew, great food. Best holiday ever.
Hi Mrs Atte, That’s great feedback for the cruise.
I have confirmation that some if not all the problems with the rooms, towels , clean windows, etc are now much improved.Which is great. This was confirmed by from the Thomson Director. Look forward to staying with you on 27 July 2012 so keep up the good work.
We are thinking of taking our grand children next year but am a bit worried about the bunk bed situation. I have seen photos of them folded up but are there any sides or bed guards on them when down. My 7 year old would be falling out every night and its quite a drop.
Hi Jan, I’ve just rang through to our Cruise Team and they’ve advised that there are sides on the bunk beds.
rooms not to big for familys
Are you able to purchase a wine package on board, not the all inclusive package???
Hi Steve,
We just have our All Inclusive packages that you can buy for your cruise. Hope that helps.
You are able to buy wine and beer packages on board!
We just returned and there are deals for both. CHeck by Seven Seas restaurant on the first night.
I have booked for a party of 6 friends for september pearls of the agean cruise and stay in corfu and having read the negative comments regarding the majesty i am very concerned. We book with thomsons every year and this will be a first time cruise for many. I have not informed them as yet of the comments on the forum but am beginning to feel quite anxious as the holiday draws closer i am sure if i inform them they will want to change the holiday as this holiday is far more expensive than other cruises i have previously been on with royal carribean and p&o. I would hate for them to have a disappointing holiday and am wondering whether it would be possible to change to another holiday so i have some information for when i do inform them as i feel responsible being the lead name.
Hi Mrs H, I’m sorry to hear that you’re anxious about your upcoming cruise. It’s important to consider that all reviews are subjective. While we have seen some disappointing reviews there has also been some fantastic feedback too – so it’s worth travelling with an open mind. It would be possible for you to change your holiday, but amendment fees will apply. If you booked in a shop you can visit your travel agent and they’ll be able to advise of the relevant charges. If you booked online then you can call our Customer Support team to discuss further.
I was worried about the entertainment before we went but now we are back I can honestly say it was first class throughout the ship. No scenery backdrops or stunning costumes as such but performances which were technically excellent. Beth, Jack, Paul , Suzy etc. etc were all stars to us.
If you go wanting to enjoy yourself you will, if you want to find something to complain about I am equally sure you will be able to manage that too!
Hi Barry,
Having been a singer for many years technical excellence is what you use for competitions, you have a completely different package if you want to entertain people who are on holiday.
do not worry about anything. Read my post. It is a fantastic ship, crew, food, service it exceptional. Get up early and watch the ship arrive into the ports. It’s amazing, have a great time.
I have read so many reviews reference the entertainment on Majesty, I am concerned as our forthcoming cruise was booked as, in our view, Thomson provide such good entertainment (amongst other things). Having sailed on a number cruise ships of varying size from IOTS to Thomson Calypso (and Destiny), some of the best entertainment was on the very small, low ceilinged, non-existence stage area on board the Calypso. The guys in that entertainment team were fabulous and worked the very limited space superbly. If the Majesty entertainment could provide the Calypso level of entertainment, we will not be disappointed. How about it?
You’ll love majesty theres nothing not to like there are entertainers and it’s so much bigger than the destiny
Bigger is not always better! As I said, we sailed on the Thomson Calypso and it was one the the best cruises we have experienced. Critics will say ‘how can you compare that old ferry with the newer liners?’ My answer, stripped down to bare bones, for itineraries, friendliness and entertainment Thomsons can not be beaten! Pleased to hear the entertainment issues are improving……..
Have just returned from a 2week cruise on the Thompson Majesty and can say it was brilliant from start to finish We were in a outside plus cabin and did have extra room. The ports on both weeks were lovely Montanegro is outstanding loved it better than Venice . Food in Seven seas restaurant first class as always. Waiters Rolly Polly. John and Wine waiter William looked after us like royalty. Entertainment team first class and do all they can to make sure you really do enjoy your holiday, from the shows in the Jubilee Lounge the crew talent show is not to be missed especially thoes of u who are cruising this week ,to the quizzes in Royal Firworks Lounge ,Carla. Suzy Jack JC better mention Paul and of course Steve you do a great job. Hope to see you all agin soon
I have been very worried about the revies on the Thomson Majesty ,see below,I am going 27 July.Please review and improve.Have sent a e-mail to director;
Dear Thompson,
Because of my concerns I now have asked the Director of Thomas Cook to look into this matter. I would appreciate if you can also respond as soon as possible.See note below; From one of Thomas Cooks/Thompson Customers in May 2012.
I e-mailed them (contactus@thomson-cruises.com) highlighting the earlier poor reviews. I got the usual bland reply
“Thank you for your email regarding your forthcoming Cruise,
I am sorry to learn of your concerns regarding the reports you have read about Thomson Majesty on Trip Advisor.
I would like to assure you that throughout the year we continually review the quality and standards on-board all of our ships. Please be assured that if any problems were to arise with our ships then our Resort and UK Quality Teams would work closely with the team on-board and implement any recommended processes to improve the overall quality.
I can understand your concerns regarding this matter however I hope the above has gone someway in reassuring you that we do take customer feedback seriously and will act upon this in on-board if and when required.
Please thjis needs to be improved? Lots of worried customers.Yes
Hi Ray,
I’m sorry to hear you’re unhappy with the reviews you’ve seen. Reviews are subjective and it’s always good to remember that what may be one person’s ideal holiday, might not be to someone else. We’re constantly monitoring our ships and our programme – and paying close attention to the feedback we received from our customers. If customers do have any issues whilst onboard, we recommend they raise these when they’re on the ship and then with our After Travel Team on their return. We have received some great feedback from customers regarding the Majesty so I hope despite the reviews you’ve seen, you go on to have a great time onboard when you travel in July.
hi rhiannon,
Strange that bad reviews are subjective but good reviews are great feedback. What is the saying ” actions speak louder than words” .We returned from our cruise on the 8th of June but having spoken to friends who have returned since that date the problems we highlight onboard, with your after travel team and on this blog have still not been addressed, I think Thomson administration need to get on with doing their job properly and stop trying to convince people that there are no problems and everything is ok. If they made the same effort as the crew on the majesty there would not be many problems left to sort and customers would be saying ” at least Thomson are trying to solve things and not just fob people of with excuses.
Hi Dave, All reviews are subjective, and we appreciate all feedback received from customers whether that’s positive or negative. It will take some time to implement any changes that need to be made, however we will work to investigate and rectify any reocurring issues that have been raised. We do appreciate your contribution to our blog, however there is nothing further we can add to your comments.
I am due to go on majesty on 20th July for two weeks after having cruised with Thomson previously and I have to say I am dreading it, so much do I’ve tried to swap to another cruise. One of the main reasons I love thomsons is the west end shows and I feel the reviews have not been listened to at all. Thomson you must realise that you have more disgruntled customers who feel like me have been ripped off and are not getting what they initially booked I feel really disappointed and angry about this !! Why don’t you act quickly, yes I understand there are height restrictions but surely there are dance acts or shows that can be put on without the need for such height …. It’s as if thomson have not been creative or have thought out of the box … Surely there is a better alternative to trio of singers and some sequinned dancers ….. What about Top man or tribute bands anything that is going to create a little bit of an atmosphere !!
I will go with an open mind but feel very disgruntled that what I am getting is not what I initially booked and don’t feel Thomson have addressed the issues quickly enough or that your events / show organisers are not creative enough with putting suitable alternatives in which matches that of the rest of your fleet
Can anyone tell me if there is discos on board or somewhere to dance as I’m with a 17 year old …. And is there anything for this age group ? Thanks
Hi Tracy, I don’t believe there is a disco, however there are crew shows and quizzes, and a chance for passengers to dance. If anyone has been on the Majesty with a teenager, it would be great if you could share some tips with Tracy.
There is a disco on the Majesty which I believe starts at 11.30 til about 2.30 am. The cruise news will tell you where and when.
I’m sorry you feel that way, Tracy. I can assure you that we’re constantly monitoring our ships and our programme and paying close attention to the feedback we received from our crew and customers – even more so when we introduce something new. Although the entertainment format has changed onboard, we do feel that our customers will still have the usual standard of entertainment on offer but we do understand that our original entertainment was well-loved. But thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us and I hope despite this, you go on to enjoy your cruise in July.
Have just returned from a week on Majesty (1-8June) and can honestly say it was one of the best cruises we have been on. From flying from Leeds/ Bradford to Corfu (the most stress free flight I have ever had) to leaving the Three Brothers hotel after our weeks stay the whole holiday was fantastic. We had an inside plus cabin on deck 3 which was a good size, not cat swingingly small as on some ships, and there was no noise, vibrations or wave movement whatsoever, it was difficult to know you were aboard ship. The food in all restaurants was of a consistently good quality, always hot and served by pleasant and efficient crew members. On the all inclusive package the wine waiter made sure that your glass was never empty and the choice of spirits and cocktails was vast (this from a beer drinker is praise indeed), cocktail of the day was always a pleasant surprise.
The entertainment in the Fireworks lounge was always very good from the trio (Elegant Touch) to the young people doing the quiz and game shows, who needs professionals
Altogether, a really enjoyable cruise, our first with Thomson but definitely not our last, already looking at next years 14 night Baltic cruise (7 nights not enough with this great cruise line)
Thank you Thomsons
i would like someone to tell if thay now what bands are playing on the Thomson Majesty and the Thomson Dream from July 2012
Hi Denise, At the moment, we have Muzzik Unlimited and Elegant Touch onboard Thomson Majesty. Playing on Thomson Dream, meanwhile, are Dream Vibe and Rhythm of Three.
could you tell me the cost of a massage on board majesty
Hi David, We’re aware that your comment from 13th June is still awaiting approval. We’re just waiting for the information to come from our Cruise Team and once we have this, we’ll reply to you. I apologise for any inconvenience caused by the delay.
Was wondering what draught beers and lagers are in the all inclusive package
Hi Michael, I can see you posted this question to us on 5th June. We’re just waiting for our Cruise Team to get back to us with more information. Once we get a reply, we’ll let you know.
Good variety of songs ,singers all good. Theme nights in jubilee lounge Abba and Las VEgas. Comedian don’t sit in front row directly in front of him ! Unless you want to be picked on. Talent crew night good. Deck party sail always good. If you want quiz still entertainment eg Mr and Mrs go to firework lounge lots of quiz nights. Can not comment didn’t go as not my type of entertainment. During day salsa lessons, line dancing etc. library, Internet and board games areas. Seven seasons restaurant if you want to enjoy a good meal the waiters will make sure you re looked after . Waiter love to sing to you. Hope anyone going on the majesty enjoy it. No west end shows but singers are excellent. Make sure you are on deck when leaving Venice just hope it doesn’t rain like it did for me, but wouldn’t miss such a view with background music.
Thanks for your post Di. I’m glad to hear you have a good time. The singer waiters sound great.
Very dissapointing – have been on the ‘maiden voyage’ on the magesty ‘adriatic tour’ Organisation and management of the ship was shambolic – queues for everything, food cold and entertainment lacklustre but the worst is this was our first cruise and I have several issues with our holiday – sent a letter of complaint which has not even been acknowledged three weeks later. sent an e mail to the ‘Directors team’ one week ago and still no response, not even confirmation that they have received this. This fully endorses our thoughts, Thomson shows total lack of care for its customers – once they have your money that is it. Wonder if you, Rhiannon can do an audit trail on my complaint?
HI Tracy, I’m sorry to hear that you’ve not yet had a response from our After Travel Team regarding your complaint. The Team do have 28 days to respond to any complaints but you should have received an acknowledgment to say that they’ve received it. Did you contact the team using the online form or was this via letter? And can you confirm your booking reference so I can look into this for you? Thanks
Its just one thing after another, just had a call from Thomson shop,Brindisi is now off the ports of call,my wife took the call and never heard what the alternative is.I will have to phone friend of ours who lives in Brindisi, that we wont be knocking on his door.Well at least we have another surprise awaiting us on the 27th July, myself Im looking forward to the boat drill on the bus!!!!
Hi Malcolm and Nina, I’m sorry to hear that you’re unhappy with the change of itinerary. But thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. If you do require any further information, your travel agent should be able to help you with any questions you may have.
Hi there (again). Are beach/bath towels provided on Majesty for the passengers as on other ships we have been on with Thomsons. Also – can you clarify about the outside plus cabins. On the photos I can see a cabin with 2 singles and one bunk bed but no photo for accommodating for 4 people.Thanks.
Hi Barbara, Yes towels are available on the Thomson Majesty. Unfortunately we don’t have photographs on our website for all cabin types, however we may update this in the future.
we booked for Destiny but like so many others we were given to believe Majesty was a good replacement. Two weeks back to back cruise start on the 18th may. Week one we were disapointed from the start, entertaiment was very poor execpt for a couple of comedians the rest was an amateur concert. but they did thier best. we paid for an upgrade to the 8th deck the cabin was small but ok.food was good and service very good. But week two we were flooded along with other cabins,we were given to under stand it would dry out very soon.but it took five days of standing on bath towels and having industrial dryer in the cabin for twelve hours a day, what a shamble We will never use a thomson cruise again. I can honestly say the whole of my fourteen days holiday was a complete waste of money.
.
Hi John, I’m sorry to hear that you were disappointed with your cruise. Have you sent on your feedback to our After Travel team? http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/send-us-an-email-postTravel.html
is it true they have changed brindisi for kotor
Hi David, Yes there has been a change to the itinerary, and Brindisi has been replaced by Kotor. Customers are currently being notified. It’s been receiving some great reviews from our customers who have just returned.
Is it true that the itinerary has changed on the Majesty and that Brindisi has been dropped and Kotor now in its place? |We have booked shore excursions for Brindisi and have not been notified of the change. Hope do we go about getting a refund and selecting a different excursion. Poor communication again Thomson!
Hi Alison, Customers are in the process of being notified of this change. If you booked online, this will be sent through to you by email. If you booked with a travel agent, they will contact you once they have received the notification for your booking. Options surrounding excursions can then be discussed.
Hi can anyone tell me what type of plug is in use in the cabins?
Hi Richard, you’ll need either a US or European two-pin adaptor – or both adaptors as there are two plug sockets.
Thanks for reply Holly,I always enjoy my holidays no matter what, and we have had a few no matter whats, believe me.I understand you have a lot of unhappy customers, mainly due to the change of ship, which did upset us,especially the way we had to accept everything with no choice. We found out about the change, not by Thomson, but by a friend who was on the Dream in Febuary and it was announced in the daily news letter on board.Regardless of the moaners and groaners on the blogg,we will enjoy our cruise,at £4500 we have to,and anyone who walks passed us to the restaurant as we wait for a table, will certainly hear about it,reserving tables should be stopped by you now.
is there singers on the deck during the day like the destiney
Hi Marie, There will be singers on deck during the sail away party, and entertainers around the deck during the daytime. You’ll find further information regarding this in the cruise news onboard.
Can anyone tell me what the voltage is in the cabins? Also are there anything for teenagers to do? Cinemas clubs etc. Been on the Emerald before and Destiny. Loved the Emerald and was really disapponted with the size of the cabin on the Destiny. WIth 3 of us we had to do get ready in shifts! So maybe time for a change although really unsure of the entertainment as a family the West End style shows offered something for us all and not sure a 13 year old will enjoy a Swing Band.
ANy chance of a reply Thomson?
Hi Sharon, We’re just trying to work our way through all the comments we have pending so we’ll be in touch as soon as possible.
Hi Sharon, Thanks for your feedback and sorry for the delay in getting back to you. You’ll need either a US or European two-pin adaptor – or both adaptors as there are two plug sockets. And there is a teen video arcade but unfortunately we don’t have a cinema on board.
Thankyou
But my question was voltage, is it 110 or 240 as your website states 110/240?
Thanks
Hi Sharon, The voltage is American-style 110 volts AC, flat two-pin and the 220-volt round two-pin European variety. So you’ll need to take two different adaptors. I hope that helps.
First cruise…not impressed
Cabin fine but no hot water on 2 occasions
Food…very mediocre…warm not hot…dining tables cramped
staff very good but were still adjusting to their new environment.
Stopovers Athens not long enough…neither was Olympia
Buffet..half of it closed…insufficient int tables
Lots of winges from Destiny customers very few had positive comments
Pity really..not bad but wont be coming back
Hi Fred, I’m sorry to hear that. If you’d like to raise your concerns with our After Travel Team, you can do so here – http://www.thomson.co.uk/editorial/send-us-an-email-postTravel.html.
we are really looking forward to going on 1st june on the majesty.we have been on the celebration, destiny, and had a really great time on both.we love thomson ships, and cannot fault anything.keep up the good work thomsons!
Thanks for your review, I know everyone has there own opinions, but yours is one of the better ones. We go on this ship on 8th June, it is our 1st cruise so we have nothing to compare it to, and was a little worried with the first few reviews, at least now it sounds as they are getting better, we were looking forward to the west end style shows when we booked it, but it was the ports of call that made us pick the Destiny. Sounds like the show dance couple should do a bit more if they got such good applause.
July 27th draws nearer,Im beginning to have more doubts about my cruise on the Destiny/ Majesty, lifeboat drills on the coach, whatever next, our flight arrives Corfu 21.00hrs,so will the drill will be on the coach.I have always booked holidays with Thomsons all over Europe,a fantastic cruise 2 years ago on the small Calypso only 500 passengers, fantastic could not fault it,this is why we booked this one with them, what I cannot understand is if the smaller Calypso could put on west end type shows, why cannot the bigger boat,it does not add up,in fact nothing does.Thomsons attitude of take it or leave it,has upset a lot of people, including me,I for one wont take it on the chin if it goes pear shape. Can someone from Thomsons explain the grey threadbare towels, and is it just another rumour that they are doing away with the open dining.
Hi Malcolm and Nina, Thank you for getting in touch and giving us the opportunity to answer your queries. On many cruise lines it’s customary to have your safety drill in the theatre, or another location inside the ship, whereas we’ve always preferred to have our drill on deck. Since changing our safety procedures to make sure the drill takes place before we sail, we’ve done our best to ensure the majority of guests still take part in an on-deck drill. For flights that are later in the day, or delayed, this isn’t always possible. But we’ll make sure all guests have a SOLAS-compliant safety drill. If you find you’d like more information once you’re onboard, you can pop along to reception and we’ll arrange for someone to show you where your muster point is and how to put your life jacket on. Please rest assured though, the health and safety of our passengers is our number one priority.
The different style of entertainment is driven by the low ceiling in the show lounge rather than the size of the venue. But please rest assured that we’re monitoring the feedback very carefully so we can respond quickly to common threads of complaint, and make changes where necessary. There’s always room for improvement and we pay close attention to our crew and customer comments, your opinions are valuable to us.
Food-wise, open-dining is here to stay. Thomson Destiny was the only ship in our fleet with fixed-sittings and it was unpopular with the large majority of passengers. Open-sitting is a much more modern way to dine, much like restaurant dining at home and is going down well with most of our guests.
Last but not least, the towels. These are washed and replaced daily – or as often as our guest want, if they’re opting for a greener approach – and we rolling schedule of permanent replacement.
holly says that fixed dining proved to be unpopular with DESTINY passengers . I guess this confirms my thoughts the comments on this site dont get read by thomson. I have been on three cruises on DESTINY and heard no complaints at all quite the reverse. Should have been on DESTINY in september, but thomsons attitude of accept the change to majesty or leave it annoyed me,so I changed to CELEBRATION.I think this smacks of the DREAM,expect and accept complaints from the guinea pigs for six months or so whilst they bring the ship up to the standard it should have been presented in. I read comments saying that thomson will sort things out in time!! not good enough the passengers work hard and save hard for their holidays and things should be as brochure first time. This holiday on the CELEBRATION will be my last with thomson
Hi Robert, I’m sorry to hear you’re unhappy with my colleagues comments regarding the dining on the Destiny. We receive customer feedback in a number of ways, on our social media sites, onboard the ship, through our travel agents, through our After Travel Team etc and we found that fixed dining on the Destiny wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. We’re sorry to hear that you’re unhappy with the change of ship but we do appreciate you taking the time to send your feedback to us.
Hollie you are so very wrong, have sailed with the Destiny many times and everyone I spoke to on these cruises loved the fixed dining option, particularly with people like ourselves who like to take advantage of the the trips and like time to relax before dinner, while others who prefered to spend the day relaxing on board or had young children often prefered the earlier sitting. Open dining simply has a lot of faults, long queues if you happen to arrive at a busy time, or if you are part of a large group as we are. You at Thomson seem to be missing the point that if the Majesty is replacing the Destiny, many of us expect that as many of the features we enjoyed on the Destiny as possible will be offered on the Majesty. PLEASE THINK AGAIN !!!!
Open sitting isn’t a more modern way of dining and is nothing like retaurant dining as in most good restaurants you have to book a table for a set time!
Hi Steve, Thanks for your feedback. I’ll pass this on to our Cruise Team for you.
We also sailed the Calypso and found the entertainment fabulous. The size of the venue on Majesty compared to Calypso should make no difference, it is the head height that seems to be the biggest problem. The ceiling on Calypso was so low you could virtually touch it and the stage was non-existent but the shows were fantastic. Come on Thomson, shows similar to Calypso I am sure would please those who are used to the great quality of Thomson entertainment.
Just back from the Pearls of the Aegean and Adriatic Explorer. Having read all the comments so far I just wanted to add my opinion.
Entertainment – everything is to Thomson standards EXCEPT The Majesty Singers. They aren’t that bad as Singers but as entertainers there is something lacking. The performances are stilted with over long pauses for applause that usually dies out before the “pause” is over. The Cruise director insists on “Hearing it again” (The applause) because “They can still hear you back there”. These shows are not “produced” it’s just a bunch of singers singing songs. The guest comedians were excellent. There are lots of seats in the Jubilee Lounge. Many with restricted view or leg room – but we always got a seat. The Muzic Unlimited band are excellent and even more polished than they were when they were on Destiny. The Show Dance Couple received tumultuous applause each time they did a 5 minute slot. Around the Ship the Piano Players are pretty average but there is little alternative to this style of music.
The Bars are far from cosy. A run of tables in a walk way. Deck 10 (Sun and Pools) is very down market but probably the only place to be in the daytime. It is difficult to find a quiet spot. Sunbeds are plentiful to the point of no deck space to put them on!
Emergency Drill takes place on Arrival Day at 6 pm. That is before many of the passengers have arrived.
The cabins are bigger than Destiny. Well most of them are but be very careful. The number of “standard cabins” are in the minority and they are smaller than Destiny. (The on-board staff disagree with this point – we agreed to differ and I regret I didn’t measure either but in a standard cabin I calculated there was about 2 sq metres of standing space).
The ship is ten years younger than Destiny but the towels sheets and pillows must be the originals. Over the years these have picked up lots of stains that seem not to wash out.
We like the Open Dining and it seemed to work quite well. We arrived at the “wrong” time on a couple of occasions and had to wait several minutes for a table to become clear. (big deal).
The staff on board are usual Thomson Standard – excellent. The passengers – on the whole – are very friendly.
In a nutshell – this is NOT an improvement on Destiny. Thomsons have a lot of work to get things right or they will be losing a good reputation.
we are going on the ship on may 10th may . have been on island escape three times thought give this a try .hope we have done the right thing after reading some of the comments not so sure.
