Thomson launches cutting-edge Aurasma advert

Action speaks louder than words. Not convinced? Check out the adverts for our Sensatori range in The Times tomorrow (21st January). At face value, the full-page advertisement doesn’t look out of the ordinary. It’s a serene image of an infinity pool and the sea in the distance. But all is not what it seems.

The advert in Saturday’s newspaper is actually interactive. Smartphone or iPhone users who download an Aurasma app can hover their phones over the image to watch a video about our 5-star Sensatori hotels.

You might not have heard of Aurasma before, but the chances are you’ll hear about it again. Techies are saying the cutting-edge app is going to change the way we use our mobile phones. Soon, you’ll be able to scan your phone over a menu to get a visual image of the food, or scan an instruction manual to watch a video of how to build a DIY table.

Right now, though, we’re one of the first companies to include the technology in our advertising campaigns. So, sit back, relax, and let your phone bring our Sensatori holidays to life.

Here’s the science bit…

Available on smartphones, the Aurasma app was created using technology that recognises images, symbols and objects in the real world. It then uses this information to deliver videos, webpages, animations or audio in real time. Without the need for barcodes or tags, the app is able to see its surrounding environment and make it fully interactive.
