E-ticketing Now Available At Thomson And First Choice…

Tuesday 1st November was an important date in the calendar here at Thomson and First Choice HQ. That’s when we embraced the hi-tech world of e-ticketing.

E-tickets are now available for anyone who’s booked a beach holiday on either thomson.co.uk or firstchoice.co.uk. Instead of sending you a mini ticket booklet through the post, we’ll email your tickets – and any associated travel vouchers – as a pdf attachment around six weeks before you’re due to fly. You can then either print off your tickets from the email or, if it’s more convenient, print them from your own personalised website, ‘mythomson’ or ‘myfirstchoice’ . If you’d like a bit more information about how these websites work, click here.

Two of the big benefits of e-ticketing are…

• It’s Easy It means you can keep everything online, from booking your holiday to receiving your tickets.

• It’s Better For The Environment It helps us meet our Holidays Forever commitments by cutting down on the amount of paper we use and reducing our carbon emissions.

First In Line…

To mark the launch, we dished out gifts to our very first e-ticket customers at Manchester and Gatwick airports.

Mr and Mrs Sharp Manchester Airport

Mr and Mrs Sharp from Leeds area

Mr and Mrs Sharp, from the Leeds area, checked in for their flight to Malaga at 3.20am on 1st November. The couple – who flew from Manchester – are spending a week at the Angela Hotel in Fuengirola. They’re loyal Thomson customers and were first to use the new e-ticketing system, giving lots of positive feedback in the process.

The Sharps enjoyed a glass of bubbly at the Thomson and First Choice check-in desk, plus they got a £30 Thomson Airways voucher to spend onboard their flight.

Mr and Mrs Smith Gatwick Airport

Mr and Mrs Smith over at Gatwick

Over at Gatwick, Mr and Mrs Smith, and their grandson, checked in for their flight to Alicante at 3am on the same day.

They found the new e-ticketing system really easy to understand, too. They went on their way with a bottle of bubbly and £30 of Thomson Airways vouchers.

Here’s what some of our other customers had to say about the new e-tickets…

“The new e-tickets are better because you don’t worry about your tickets not turning up in the post.”

“It was very easy to log in to myfirstchoice and print off my e-ticket.”

Have recieved e tickets, we had to change a passenger name which has been done after recieving these. When will recieve new e ticket for the passenger who’s name has been changed? I travel on 16/8/12

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 28/07/2012 at 10:48

Hi Carly, You’ll need to print off your current e-tickets as these will be for the rest of the people on the booking and then a new ticket for just the passenger who’s had the amendment should be released within 24 hours of the change. If you’ve not received an email about them, then it might be worth checking your ‘My Thomson’ page as you can download your tickets from there.

  2. Dean bliss says: 25/07/2012 at 20:00

Having received my e ticket I like many seem confused by this method as it just looks like your holiday details and not a ticket when you are going on holiday the last thing you want to worry about is have I printed the right info .it doesn’t feel as if you have tickets and you worry you won’t get on the plane

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 28/07/2012 at 10:45

I’m sorry you feel that way, Dean. We feel our e-tickets offer our customers a much more efficient service as we’re no longer reliant on postal deliveries and it’s also helping us with our sustainability pledge. All our e-tickets will have ‘Travel Document’ printed on the right hand side of the page and this is all you’ll need to use to check-in. But thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us and I’ll pass your comments on to our E-Ticketing Team.

  3. Kim says: 25/07/2012 at 17:30

Hi, What do you do if you receive your e ticket and you do not have a printer, I have called and requested the tickets in the post, but this was over a wk ago and i have not received them

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 28/07/2012 at 10:43

Hi Kim, If customers don’t have a printer we ask that they speak to family, friends or visit their local library to print their e-tickets off as we’re unable to send them out via the post.

  4. Elaine doody says: 25/07/2012 at 15:31

    Hi.

Ive just printed off my Eticket, does it matter that it only says first initial instead of full first name…..ie miss E Doody rather than Miss Elaine Doody?

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 28/07/2012 at 10:40

Hi Elaine, We only have passenger initals on our booking system so it will be correct that your full name isn’t stated on your e-tickets. I hope you have a fantastic holiday.

  5. DIANE says: 23/07/2012 at 21:00

We are due to depart 22nd August – as yet I have received neither tickets in the post or an email to confirm I can print them off. I have been online and cannot find the facility anywhere. Can you help?

    • Amarita@Thomson says: 28/07/2012 at 10:44

Hi Diane, We usually send e-tickets around 2 to 3 weeks prior to your departure date. These e-tickets are sent to the email address which you provided at the time of booking. You can also print your e-tickets from the MyThomson site around 2 to 3 weeks before as well. ^Amarita

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 28/07/2012 at 10:52

Hi Diane, Our e-tickets are sent out 2-4 weeks before departure and you’ll receive an email from us to show you how to download them. You can also check your My Thomson site to see if they’re ready to download from there. Here’s a link which will send you directly to the page – https://my.thomson.co.uk/Login.aspx

  6. Jlowe says: 22/07/2012 at 19:59

Hi, got my E-tickets and paid for my insurance but all i get when i go on the adobe acrobat file is the general insurance policy document. Should we have some more reference with our names on and more proof that we have insurance other than our confirmation e-mail??

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 27/07/2012 at 13:59

If you’ve purchased AXA insurance, you can log-in and print your policy schedule and documents here – http://www.thomsonins.co.uk/travel/default.aspx.

Your reference for your insurance will be the booking reference that you have which should look something like this – 0000/00000

      Hope that helps.

      • andy says: 30/07/2012 at 12:34

I have tried to access my insurance documents via the suggested links and have been unable to do so. It says it does not recognise my e-mail account yet I have booked my holiday on line. When I phone I am told there is a 30 minute wait to speak to someone. I booked my insurance at the time of booking my holiday – Family Single Trip Insurance. Please let me know how I can access documents quickly

      • Kirsty@Thomson says: 30/07/2012 at 14:07

Hi Andy, All you need is the PDF documents with the insurance policy details on. Your reference is the same as your booking reference and it will show on your confirmation that you’ve purchased insurance with us. I’m sorry you’ve had to wait on the phone to speak to someone about this. Hope it helps.

  7. Shirley says: 22/07/2012 at 15:50

If three passenger are travel together do I print the eticket 3times

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 27/07/2012 at 13:56

Hi Shirley, Your e-ticket will be for all 3 passengers so you’ll only need to print it once. Hope that helps.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 27/07/2012 at 13:39

Hi Steve, Thanks for your post. As you’ve booked with a Travel Agent, the e-tickets will be sent directly to them so you’ll need to collect them from the store. I’ve checked your booking reference and can see that they were sent out a few days ago, so I’d recommend giving your Travel Agent a call to see if they’ve arrived.

I’m sorry that we didn’t get to your comment before you travelled, Pauline but I can confirm that all our e-tickets will have ‘Travel Document’ written in the right hand corner. I hope you have an enjoyable holiday.

    • Amarita@Thomson says: 19/07/2012 at 14:05

Hi Mark, I’m sorry you’re having difficulties downloading your e-tickets. This can usually be found on your MyThomson. If you’re still unable to locate your e-tickets, please send me your reference number and I’ll be able to look into this for you.

      • mark nicholls says: 19/07/2012 at 18:09

      • Amarita@Thomson says: 20/07/2012 at 11:52

Hi Mark, I’ve sent you an email so that you can send us your reference number privately.

  11. Frances says: 16/07/2012 at 22:28

I have printed out e-ticket for Cruise on Sat, and understand do not receive luggage labels for flghts now, however when cruising your luggage is taken off you outside the cruise hall, prior to checking in, so do we need to put own label on? or has the luggage loading system changed?

    • Amarita@Thomson says: 18/07/2012 at 16:45

Hi Frances, If you’re on a cruise and stay, you’ll get a departure letter onboard with colour-coded labels to put on your luggage before you put them outside your cabin for collection. If you’re travelling on a flight with us, we don’t provide luggage labels, and therefore you can put your own label on if you wish.

      • Frances says: 18/07/2012 at 18:28

we are on a cruise only, departing from the Port of Tyne, so no flights or seperate hotels, and normally the luggage handlers take the luggage immediatly you get to the Port they are waiting as people arrive at the entrance to the departure hall, and the luggage label would have your cabin deck /number on so it can be delivered directly there on board

  12. keeley taylor says: 16/07/2012 at 19:19

i have just printed my e ticket 4 adults travelling 12th august 2012. all of our middle names/ initials are missing from the ticket. will this cause any problems when checking in at the airport? it just shows our 1st and surnames.

    • Amarita@Thomson says: 18/07/2012 at 15:15

Hi Keeley, you’re not required to enter your middle name or initial for your holiday booking. As long as your e-tickets show the first names and surnames, you will not have any problems. I hope you enjoy your holiday. ^Amarita

  13. Julie. F says: 16/07/2012 at 10:47

Hi,have just received a booklet saying travel document on the front,is this my flight tickets as i was told i would have to print them off when i received an email, also what do i do about luggage labels ? thanks.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 14:39

Hi Julie, Have you made your booking with a Travel Agent as they will receive e-ticket paper booklets? But as long as it says ‘travel document’ and has passenger, flight and accommodation details on, these will be your e-tickets. Also we no longer provide luggage labels as your luggage will be electronically tagged at check-in but it’s always worth putting a ribbon or some coloured tape on the handle of your case if you’re worried about spotting it when you land.

  14. Jill Kirkbride says: 15/07/2012 at 11:41

I accidentally entered my email address incorrectly when booking online. I have since corrected this but a friend has recieved her e-ticket already with 8 weeks until she flys and i depart on 20/08/12 (5 weeks) and am yet to receive anything. I have seen from other posts that e-tickets are normally sent between 2-4 weeks prior to departure, however i am a little concerned. Could you let me know who i would have to contact incase i do not receive my tickets within this time???

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 14:15

      Hi Jill,

Can you confirm your booking reference with us so we can check this for you?

      • Jill Kirkbride says: 18/07/2012 at 16:04

Hi Jill, I’ve had a look at your booking and your tickets are pending. These should be sent to you within the next few days by email.

      • Amarita@Thomson says: 19/07/2012 at 13:55

Hi Jill, I’ve had a look at your booking and your tickets are pending. These should be sent to you within the next few days by email.

      • Jill Kirkbride says: 19/07/2012 at 15:29

Thats great!!! Thankyou for your swift responses! Corfu here we come!

  15. tracey cooper says: 14/07/2012 at 20:01

can i just say that i think you ought to consider renaming your eticket as its confusing the majority because they are expecting to see an actual ticket of which there isnt. if you called it an e-document it may cut down on the phonecalls you receive of people looking for a ticket. if you made it clear on your websites as to what the so called e-ticket looked like it would cause a lot less confusion

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 13:49

Hi Tracey, Thanks for your feedback. I’ll pass your comments on to our E-Ticketing Team.

  16. James Barker says: 13/07/2012 at 16:33

Hi we have not yet recieved our e-ticket, only we were told we should have had it by now.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 13:36

      Hi James,

You should receive your e-tickets 2-4 weeks before departure. If you’ve booked online, they’ll be sent to the email address you provided at the time of booking and if you booked with a Travel Agent they’ll be sent directly to them. So if you have made your booking with a Travel Agent and you are 2 weeks before departure, I’d recommend giving them a call to see if they’ve received them.

  17. Kevin says: 13/07/2012 at 10:25

    Hi,
I am using an e-ticket for the first time I expected to get luggage tags issued are these now issued at check in?

    Thanks

    Kevin

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 13:28

Hi Kevin, Yes that’s correct. Your luggage will be electronically tagged at check-in so there’s no need for us to provide luggage labels. Hope that helps.

  20. Terry-Anne Greenwood says: 11/07/2012 at 16:54

Just wondered I have printed my e ticket off which had all my details but not airline ticket as such, is that correct? Also do we get Thomson Luggage labels through the post before we travel as in pevious years? Many thanks!

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 12:07

Hi Terry-Anne, As long as it says ‘Travel Document’ in the right hand corner, this is your e-ticket for your holiday and its roughly around 5 pages long. Unfortunately we no longer provide luggage labels as your cases will be electronically tagged at check-in. I hope that helps.

  21. Sharon says: 11/07/2012 at 08:10

Have just printed the “e-ticket” off … this is a five page document that looks like an email. There is no bar code. Is this correct? Do I just take this same five page document to the airport inbound and outbound? Your website does not make it clear. I think most people expect a barcode. Please clarify. Thank you.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 17/07/2012 at 11:17

Hi Sharon, You won’t find a barcode on your e-tickets but it will say ‘Travel Document’ on the right hand side. You need to use this for your outbound and inbound flights and you’ll be issued your boarding cards at check-in. I hope that helps.

  22. doug rutter says: 10/07/2012 at 21:38

    regards

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 13/07/2012 at 12:29

Hi Darren, If you’re having trouble downloading your e-ticket and have a booking which can be accessed on ‘My Thomson’, you can download it from there. But if that doesn’t work either, you can just print off the e-ticketing email you were sent and take that with you to check-in.

  25. karen morris says: 10/07/2012 at 15:16

Hi, why is the booking reference different on the e ticket and what do you do if you haven’t got a printer to print it off?

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 11/07/2012 at 14:06

Hi Karen, You have two references for your booking, one for administration and another where your holiday is stored so that’s why you may see a different one on your e-ticket. If customers haven’t got a printer we’d recommend speaking to family and friends or visiting your local library.

      • karen morris says: 11/07/2012 at 21:34

Hi, thanks. Do I need to take all five pages to the check in desk?

      • Hollie @Thomson says: 14/07/2012 at 15:56

Hi Karen, Yes, you’ll need to take all 5 pages with you to check-in.

  27. Mary Heywood says: 10/07/2012 at 07:33

    Hi
I spoke to Thomsons to get the eticket name changed but it has not arrived in the email yet. I requested it on Sunday and again yesterday but currently it has not arrived. It arrived very quickly the first time around. Just wondered if this was normal?
    Many thanks
    Mary Heywood

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 11/07/2012 at 13:32

Hi Mary, It can take a couple of days to come through but you’ll only get an e-ticket for the customer who’s named has been changed so make sure you’ve printed off the original e-ticket with the other passenger details on. When are you travelling?

  28. H Goodwin says: 09/07/2012 at 17:11

    Hi,

Apologies to repeat others questions but wanted to double check. I have just received and printed off my e-tickets. They don’t look like traditional tickets but are 5 pages of travel details including flight details, passenger names and accomodation details and a contract on the final page. It does state Travel Document in the right hand corner. I am correct from the other posts that these are indeed my e-tickets and all I’ll be required to produce at the check in desk both ways is this document along with my usual travel docs (ie passports etc) to get my boarding cards? My flights are TOM2632 outbound and TOM2633 inbound.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 11/07/2012 at 11:38

That’s correct, H. You just need to hand these in at check-in and you’ll be issued with your boarding cards.

      • Robert says: 11/07/2012 at 19:17

Seemingly, I have the same issue as many others. I have printed what I thought would be my e-ticket but have 8 pages of flight details, passenger details, travel summary, itinery, my contact details, getting to the airport, conditions of contract, H&S, packing, money matters, keeping in touch, medical assistance, passports, visas and baggage, contact info, Athens Convention. Is this really the e-ticket? If so, do I actually need all 8 pages? On the basis that so many people seem to be confused by it, do you think it might be advisable to make it rather more obvious that this is the e-ticket? Many thanks.

      • Hollie @Thomson says: 14/07/2012 at 15:37

Hi Robert, Your e-ticket will say ‘your travel document’ in the top right hand corner, and you will need to take all of the pages with you to check-in. I’m sorry you feel that the e-tickets are confusing, I’ll pass your feedback on to our ticketing team.

  29. Susan Talbot says: 09/07/2012 at 12:48

I have booked extra leg room seats. Can I allocate my seats before I get to the airport and if so from which date.

  30. Becca says: 09/07/2012 at 12:10

Hiya my boyfriend received the e ticket email the other day, he told me he couldn’t find our tickets in the email, this is the first time booking with Thomson too so I had a look and manged to print off 4 pages that says it is our e tickets but it is 2 pages of flight details and our details and the other 2 pages are about gatwick and how to be safe on holiday. We are very confused, is this our ticket? And how do we check in to our hotel and air port with this??

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 09/07/2012 at 14:18

Hi Becca, As long as you’ve got ‘Travel Document’ in the right hand corner they’re your e-tickets. These cover both legs of your journey and will have your passenger and accommodation details on too. You’ll just need to take these with you to check-in and you’ll be given them back along with your boarding cards. Hope that helps and have a fantastic holiday.

  31. Mary Heywood says: 08/07/2012 at 10:01

I have just spoken to Thomsons, and Asian gentleman answered the phone who appeared very helpful. However, the issue is that my eticket (fault of mine) has my married name on and my passport has my maiden name on. Can anyone tell me what I can do about his. Haven’t travelled for a couple of years and my passport change never crossed my mind.
    Thanks
    Mary

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 09/07/2012 at 10:01

Hi Mary, You would need to change this as your e-ticket does need to be the same as your passport, however a charge would apply to do this. If you booked online, you’ll need to speak to our Web Team on 0844 871 0878. Alternatively, if you booked with a Travel Agent you’ll need to contact them directly to get this changed.

Been on the phone all week trying to get e-ticket sent.
    Thanks!!!!

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 09/07/2012 at 09:46

Hi Jennieb, Sorry we weren’t able to get to your comment before you travelled. When you only have a flight only with us, you just need to take your confirmation with you to check-in.

  34. vicki says: 06/07/2012 at 19:39

hi iv recieved my e-tickets an printed them out for our outbound flight but just wondering what we need to do about the flight coming home? thanks

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 08/07/2012 at 14:46

Hi Vicki, Your e-tickets work for both journeys and you’ll just need to hand them in at check-in and you’ll be given them back along with your outbound flight boarding cards. And then you’ll just need to do the same for your return journey. I hope that’s answered your question and you have a fantastic holiday.

  35. hilary bennett says: 06/07/2012 at 15:49

I have booked my holiday online, paid booked seats etc, but I do not have a printer. Phoned your offices and was told if I went to my nearest Thomson shop they would print them out for me. Wrong, not only were they not very helpful, I was told they couldn’t access my email. Help!!

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 08/07/2012 at 14:18

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been provided with the incorrect information, Hilary. Our retail shops use different systems so they wouldn’t be able to access any bookings made on our website. If customers don’t own printers, we’d suggest speaking to family or friends or visiting your local library to print them off. I’m sorry for any confusion this has caused.
