E-ticketing Now Available At Thomson And First Choice…

Tuesday 1st November was an important date in the calendar here at Thomson and First Choice HQ. That’s when we embraced the hi-tech world of e-ticketing.

E-tickets are now available for anyone who’s booked a beach holiday on either thomson.co.uk or firstchoice.co.uk. Instead of sending you a mini ticket booklet through the post, we’ll email your tickets – and any associated travel vouchers – as a pdf attachment around six weeks before you’re due to fly. You can then either print off your tickets from the email or, if it’s more convenient, print them from your own personalised website, ‘mythomson’ or ‘myfirstchoice’ . If you’d like a bit more information about how these websites work, click here.

Two of the big benefits of e-ticketing are…

• It’s Easy It means you can keep everything online, from booking your holiday to receiving your tickets.

• It’s Better For The Environment It helps us meet our Holidays Forever commitments by cutting down on the amount of paper we use and reducing our carbon emissions.

First In Line…

To mark the launch, we dished out gifts to our very first e-ticket customers at Manchester and Gatwick airports.

Mr and Mrs Sharp Manchester Airport

Mr and Mrs Sharp from Leeds area

Mr and Mrs Sharp, from the Leeds area, checked in for their flight to Malaga at 3.20am on 1st November. The couple – who flew from Manchester – are spending a week at the Angela Hotel in Fuengirola. They’re loyal Thomson customers and were first to use the new e-ticketing system, giving lots of positive feedback in the process.

The Sharps enjoyed a glass of bubbly at the Thomson and First Choice check-in desk, plus they got a £30 Thomson Airways voucher to spend onboard their flight.

Mr and Mrs Smith Gatwick Airport

Mr and Mrs Smith over at Gatwick

Over at Gatwick, Mr and Mrs Smith, and their grandson, checked in for their flight to Alicante at 3am on the same day.

They found the new e-ticketing system really easy to understand, too. They went on their way with a bottle of bubbly and £30 of Thomson Airways vouchers.

Here’s what some of our other customers had to say about the new e-tickets…

“The new e-tickets are better because you don’t worry about your tickets not turning up in the post.”

“It was very easy to log in to myfirstchoice and print off my e-ticket.”

Hi, Just recently booked a holiday through Ola Holidays, I’ve been able to check in online no problems, but when it comes to printing my boarding passes its only printing my outbound and not the inbound, could you help please?, I’ve contacted ola holidays who say that inbound flights dont require a boarding pass, I dont feel confident about this, is this correct?
    Thanks for your help.
    Jam, flight is TCX7002-7003

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 08/07/2012 at 14:15

      Hi Jam,

As you’re on a flight which begins TCX this is a Thomas Cook flight so you’d need to contact them to help with this – as our customers can’t check-in online or print their boarding passes off. Hope that helps.

when i go on manage my booking, which , the reference number i have is 7 numbers, Where do i type it? it looks like i am missing 3 numbers ?

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 08/07/2012 at 14:11

Good Afternoon Steph, If you’ve booked online you should have two reference numbers on your confirmation. The 7 digit reference is your flight reference but you need the reference that’s in the format – 0000/000000 to access ‘manage my booking’. Let me know if you’re still having problems.

When I click on the link to print my e-tickets a new page appears trying to connect to cm-apps.co.uk, but then I get the message “Navigation Cancelled”.
I have adjusted the respective internet safety tools but without success.
Clicking on the link suggested where there are problems in downloading e-tickets simply takes you to a general information page with nothing about problem solving!!
    Aaaggghhh!!

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 08/07/2012 at 14:10

Hi Mark, I’m sorry to hear about the problems you’ve been having. If you’re unable to download the printable version by clicking on the link, depending on your booking you may be able to download them from your ‘my thomson’ site – https://my.thomson.co.uk/Login.aspx. If you’re unable to, you can just print off the e-ticketing email that’s been sent to you if you continue to have problems. Hope that helps.

  4. Jane says: 05/07/2012 at 06:39

I booked a holiday 4 days ago due to fly this coming Sunday – I recieved initial confirmation that said I would receive my e-tickets within 2 days – I have not received them or any other emails and when I log in there is no option to print tickets – please help.

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 05/07/2012 at 12:45

Hi Jane, I’ve just sent you an email so that I can look into this further for you.

  5. Beverley says: 04/07/2012 at 19:45

Not happy with being unable to download tickets. Finally think I have sorted this out by reading another peoples issues on this blog. Printed a 5 page document with the words ‘E ticket’. Doesnt look at all like a ticket to me. Hope this is the correct document!!! Not booking this way again

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 05/07/2012 at 11:45

Hi Beverley, Yes – that will be your e-ticket. I’m sorry to hear that you’re unhappy with our new ticketing system, but I hope you go on to have a lovely holiday.

  6. Bart says: 04/07/2012 at 18:38

Hi, I’ve just booked (around 1am) the tickets on Thomson website. But i had some problems – when waiting for Mastercard payment confirmation of booking i got an error on website that is is unavailable due to technical maintenance. I did not get any confirmation by mail but i can see that the payment amount has been deducted from my account. How long should i wait for mail confirmation. Thx Bart

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 05/07/2012 at 11:41

Hi Bart, You should receive confirmation immediately. Therefore please call our Customer Support team on 0844 0871 0879 as soon as possible, and they’ll confirm if the booking has been made and provide you with the relevant documentation for this.

      • Bart says: 05/07/2012 at 13:41

Thx, i called a CS and unfort the booking has not been made. The worst thing is that now i have to book the flight again and it will cost more… :S

  7. Nicky Davies says: 04/07/2012 at 18:02

I have received e-ticket confirmation but cannot read the e-mail or down load it on any of my computers. We fly in less than 3 weeks now so am beginning to panic! Help!

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 05/07/2012 at 11:38

Hi Nicky, I’m unsure as to why the email itself is not displaying. Have you tried this on someone elses computer? If you’re unable to open the attachment, you can simply print the email itself. Alternatively you can login to your My Thomson page and download the ticket from here.

  8. Ian says: 04/07/2012 at 14:27

Can you confirm please: I have printed what I believe to be my (our) e-ticket. I.e. 5 pages giving names of people going on holiday, the airport, dates and hotel, together with flight times etc. There are no bar codes or outbound/inbound tickets as such. Does this seem correct? Thank you.

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 05/07/2012 at 11:32

Hi Ian, That’s correct. Just print this out and take it along with you to check-in. You’ll use the same documentation for your inbound journey. I hope you have a wonderful holiday.

  9. Craig Moss says: 04/07/2012 at 13:36

Hi i was just wondering if you can shed some light on a little question regarding my holiday. We booked our holiday with Thomas Cook for the Flamingo Oasis in Benidorm which is a Thompson holiday (No Thompson shops were we live). I received my e-ticketing confirmation today, but no tickets. This is what Thomas Cook say I have to take to check-in is this correct? Is this what I do and then when we book in with the confirmation will we then receive our tickets?

    Thank you

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 14:40

Hi Craig, Yes if this document includes your passenger names, flight times and accommodation details, you’ll just need to take this along to check-in with you. We no longer distribute standard printed tickets, so on presenting your e-ticket you’ll be issued boarding cards allowing you to proceed through to the departure lounge. This will be the same on your return flight. I hope you have a brilliant time in Benidorm.

Total fiasco as soon as I hit the buy button online….Quick enough to take my money……”IF” I get a holiday out of it I hope the service is better than we have received so far!!!!!!

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 08:52

Hi Andy, I’ve just sent you an email to look into this for you. I hope to hear back from you soon.

  11. kathleen lamont says: 02/07/2012 at 22:17

Im a frequent flyer and i must say iv never seen a service like this before in my life i mean how hard is it to send confirmation e’mail i made this transaction without any problem so therefore i excpect to recieve what iv paid for.

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 09:00

Hi Kathleen, I’m so sorry to hear about your disappointment with the booking so far. I have just emailed you to see if i can be of any help to you at all. Hope to hear back from you soon.

  12. Sharon Lewis says: 30/06/2012 at 15:48

Hi, I really think you ought to clarify your website. I couldn’t print off my e ticket from the email, so I went into ‘manage my booking’ but it wasn’t on there either to print off. I phoned Thompson and explained the situation all they did was re email my conformation booking. It was only when I went on e-ticket comments that I saw to look on the Thompson home page, scroll right down to the small wording at the bottom click on ‘My Thompson’ log in there and BEHOLD there was the e-ticket to download which I successfully did. I hope this email will help others who are panicking.

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 10:11

Hi Sharon, Thanks for your post. We do advise that when customers struggle with receiving/opening their email, this can be accessed from the My Thomson page. We’re looking at ways in which this can be made clearer to customers, so we really value your input. Thanks so much and have a wonderful holiday.

  13. MICHAEL MAHON says: 30/06/2012 at 11:32

silly question do i have to put labels on my luggage and if so what details do i need to put on them?

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 10:17

Hi Michael, Not a silly question at all – Don’t worry. Your luggage will be electronically tagged at check-in, so you no longer have to put your own information onto your case. If you do wish to do so, then you are of course more than welcome, but all the information that we will require will be on the electronic tag.

  14. Cheryl Straffon says: 30/06/2012 at 11:13

We have a flight-only booking flying on 5th July, but have received no e-ticket. The confirmation we received says that “You must print your e-ticket and take it with you”, but when I telephoned about this I was told that we do not need an e-ticket for flight only. This seems to contradict what the confirmation says, so could you please let me know whether we do need an e-ticket or not. Thank you.

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 10:25

Hi Cheryl, Don’t worry. You’ll be able to travel on your confirmation alone. E-tickets are not sent out for all flights, so just print out the confirmation and take this along with you to check-in. I hope you have an enjoyable flight tomorrow.

  15. Linda Smith says: 29/06/2012 at 21:25

Hi, I’ve received my e-mail regarding downloading my e-ticket which is fine but what about the labels that you usually put on the suitcase with all your flight details etc? Are they not used anymore?

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 10:18

Hi Linda, We no longer send out luggage labels to customers. Your lugagge will now be electronically tagged at the check-in. Of course, you’re welcome to put your own tag on if you wish, but this are no longer provided by Thomson. I hope that helps and have a wonderful holiday.

  16. Christopher Chorley says: 29/06/2012 at 16:26

I booked my holiday with Kwik Travel and pre booked our seats, I have just received my e tickets but it does not state anywhere (apart from on the invoice) that we have pre booked seats, will they still be pre booked.

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 10:23

Hi Christopher, I’ve just sent you an email to get some more information of you so I can confirm details regarding your seats. Hope to hear from you soon.

  17. lynzy ward says: 28/06/2012 at 22:49

hi ive booked my holiday through ola holidays via teletext just recieved my online documents to print off my seats are booked with thomson but i cant seem to be able to fill in our api it wont accept our booking ref online am i doing it in the correct place also our flight seems to have disappeared from glasgow airport website do you still fly to lanzarote my flight was supposed to be 5th july tom1448 at 14.55 many thanks

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 14:38

Hi Lynzy, You should have received two different reference numbers – a booking reference and also a ‘Flight Reference’. You’ll need to use the flight reference for submitting your API. If you’d like to forward this reference number onto me I can also confirm the flight times for you.

  18. Tim Bennett says: 28/06/2012 at 16:26

Your e ticketing does not work, your site does not recognise the booking number but the rest of the site bar the e ticketing does,
You shops cannot help because it was booked on line and your call centres say try my.thomson.co.uk and that doesn’t work either

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 12:54

Hi Tim, Your e-ticket will be sent directly to your email address. You will not need a booking reference in order to do this. If you haven’t received this and your holiday is within the next 4 weeks, you can access the ticket on the My Thomson page, as previously mentioned by the call centre staff. To login to this, please visit: https://my.thomson.co.uk/Login.aspx If you were unable to login before, this may be due to the reference you were using. You’ll have two booking references on your confirmation. Use the reference with the “/” in the middle of it. You’ll then be able to download your e-ticket from there. I hope that helps

  19. Antony Shenton says: 27/06/2012 at 17:26

I have booked a holiday online, and have been told to check-in 1 week in advance – but I cannot find out how to check-in. The flight numbers are: TOM7338 and TOM7339. How do I do this?

  20. Eileen says: 27/06/2012 at 10:34

I have confirmation details which states i would receive a confirmation email which i have to print or could face being refused travel. That was 5 weeks ago and still nothing. All i have is a booking reference.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 01/07/2012 at 15:28

Hi Eileen, Customers who book online and enter their email address receive a confirmation usually within 24 hours of making the booking. I realise you posted this comment a few days ago so could you let me know if this hasn’t been resolved for you.

  21. B Bentley says: 26/06/2012 at 14:12

I am very annoyed that my e ticket will not download from the My Thomson site. Yes I know I can get it at the airport but thats not the point – something must be wrong with the site. Likewise with the email you sent me telling me to ‘click here’ to print out the e ticket, that doesnt work either!!!! I havent had any satisfaction from customer service as they all tell me to ‘get it at the airport’ so whats the point of all the bragging about e-tickets?

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 01/07/2012 at 15:27

      Hi B,

We’ve had great feedback from customers regarding our e-tickets but on occasions some customers have been unable to download a pdf printable version of the document. This is usually due to the version of adobe that they have on their computer. But in cases like this, we do allow customers to just print off their e-ticketing email to take with them to check-in. I hope that helps.

      • Ann Bargh says: 02/07/2012 at 18:31

I would strongly advise against this, I travelled last month and only printed out one way, was told if I was unable to print out my return e tickets in resort I would be charged £60 at the airport. Thankfully I was able to print out at the hotel. This month I am travelling with Thompsons and like yourself am unable to print out my E tickets. Customer services have tried to assist but without success so far :(

      • Amanda @Thomson says: 04/07/2012 at 09:03

Hi Ann, Was this travelling with Thomson Airways? If you’re travelling on a package holiday, then both flights are detailed on your e-ticket and you will only require one copy. With regards to your holiday this month, unfortunately we’re unable to print these for you so would suggest seeing if any friends or family can help, or your library.

  22. Ionela Marin says: 25/06/2012 at 23:12

Hello, i wanted to book a flight on 22nd of June and i put all my details but i never got a booking confirmation or a reference number but the money of the flight are held from my bank account!!! So i really dont know if my booking is confirmed or not!!!! I need a quick reply cause the booking is for the 2nd of july!!!

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 01/07/2012 at 15:21

Hi Lonela, As it’s a very small team that monitor this blog, I can only apologise that we’ve only just seen your comment now. I’m hoping you’ve managed to contact us through our other channels such as phone or email to get this issue resolved. I hope you have an enjoyable flight on 2nd.

  23. Lawrence Crew says: 25/06/2012 at 19:18

I went to try and select seats earlier. However, once i’d selected the ones I wanted and clicked proceed with payment, the website crashed and I haven’t received any confirmation this has gone through. So I then paid for the select seats extra’s in the manage my holiday section, and it’s now showing that that extra has been purchased but there still isn’t anywhere I can see that the seats I selected have gone through or indeed a confirmation email either.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 01/07/2012 at 15:14

Hi Lawrence, If the purchased prebooked seats through the ‘manage my booking’ facility that means that you haven’t yet selected your seats as this can only be done on the Flight Extras website. I’d recommend contacting our Web Team on 0844 871 0878 as they’ll be able to check this for you.

  24. Lauren says: 24/06/2012 at 16:20

I’m travelling with 4 other people, does everyone get sent an e-ticket or is the one I’ve been sent for all of us? Do I have to print one copy off for everyone?

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 25/06/2012 at 10:43

Hi Lauren, You’ll just receive one e-ticket per booking. Print this off and take it along to check-in. This will list the names of all of the passengers on the booking, along with the flight times and accommodation information.

  25. katy stewart says: 24/06/2012 at 15:37

hi travelling on 31/7/12 i havent recived any e tickets yet when will i?

    • Amanda @Thomson says: 25/06/2012 at 10:46

Hi Katy, If you booked online you should receive your e-tickets 6 weeks before travel. Have you received other confirmation from us via email? If not, it could be a spelling error on your email address. If you have then it’s worth checking your junk/spam folders to see if it’s fell in there. You can also access your e-ticket on your My Thomson page. If you booked in a shop then you won’t receive an e-ticket, and the shop will let you know once the tickets are available to collect.

  26. Lauren Burke says: 21/06/2012 at 12:10

I have received my e-ticket for my holiday and I have filled in the information for the API. Do I need to do anything else now or just turn up to the airport with my E-ticket?
Also, how many hours before my flight that I can check in?

    Thanks,
    Lauren.

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 22/06/2012 at 12:10

      Hi Lauren,

It sounds like you’re all ready to go so all you need to do now is pack and head off to the airport with your e-ticket. We usually recommend you arrive 2 hours before check-in for a short haul flight and 3 hours for longhaul. Have a fantastic holiday!

      • Lauren Burke says: 28/06/2012 at 11:11

        Many Thanks ! :-)

  27. Annabel Lopez says: 20/06/2012 at 11:01

Hi I’ve changed my email address to the one above ,But every time I click on send my booking info on my account it keeps sending it to old address so I’m worried I won’t receive my e.tickets to new email

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 20/06/2012 at 12:20

Hi Annabel, I’ve just emailed you regarding your query.

  28. Graham Moore says: 19/06/2012 at 14:31

I was not aware that I would receive an e-ticket, however, when it turned up I just printed it off and will just take it to the airport with me. I’ve had e-tickets before for gigs and football matches, find it a lot better than booklets or paper tickets. Well done Thomson!!!

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 20/06/2012 at 11:00

Hi Graham, I’m pleased to hear that you like our e-tickets. Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback on our blog.

  29. james francis says: 18/06/2012 at 16:17

There is a party of ten of us so it would make it expensive to pre book seats, does this mean there is a likelihood we will be scattered all over the plane

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 20/06/2012 at 10:32

Hi James, We always do our best to seat parties together, however as around 80% of our customers now choose to pre-book their seats we can’t guarantee that you won’t be split up on the plane.

  30. Andrew B says: 18/06/2012 at 15:17

Hey, I’ve recently booked a holiday with the company SunMaster, who have got flights through Thomson. I am not sure if I have recieved the e-ticket yet, but I do have an email from Thomson with the flight booking reference, departure date, passengers etc. Is this all I need to check in?

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 20/06/2012 at 10:12

Hi Andrew, I’ve just sent you an email regarding your query.

  31. Paul Wallage says: 18/06/2012 at 09:04

The e ticket email i have been sent has a link to print your e ticket.
When i do this it just seems to be a copy of the email and not an e ticket.
The top of the page states E-ticket Travel Document followed by my booking ref, departure date and my thomson log in.
It does not state my seat numbers even though these have been prebooked. Please advise if this is correct

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 18/06/2012 at 12:58

Hi Paul, As long as the document you print states ‘e-ticket travel document, this is all you’ll need to check-in with. As your seat numbers are selected through a separate system, these won’t show on your e-ticket. You’ll just need to print your seat number confirmation separately and take this with you. I hope that helps.

  32. Mandy Grady says: 17/06/2012 at 15:39

I don’t like this new eticketing at all, our holiday usually started when we received our personalised booklet containing our tickets! We were not aware it had changed until we received the email containing our tickets but have warned others who I know have very busy email accounts to be careful they dont miss it!

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 18/06/2012 at 10:37

Hi Mandy, I’m sorry to hear that you’re disappointed with the new e-tickets. As a company we’re interested in reducing our carbon footprint and remaining environmentally friendly. So therefore we decided to change our old style booklet to E-Tickets. I’ll make sure your feedback is passed on for you.

  33. Sue says: 17/06/2012 at 14:06

am furious!! Thomson very kindly took our money for our holiday(within 5hours) but seem unable to send us either confirmation or etickets. I have made 4 phone calls and finally tracked down the CORRECT email address, and received a flippant reply that “we aim to reply within 14 days” I HAVE NOT GOT 14 DAYS! WE FLY ON THE 28TH OF JUNE.Iwill be booking with Thomas Cook again from now on.!!!!!!!

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 18/06/2012 at 10:26

Hi Sue, I’ve just sent you an email regarding this.

  34. Veronica says: 16/06/2012 at 16:32

I still have’t received my e tickets and am due to fly in 5 days

    • Hollie @Thomson says: 17/06/2012 at 13:49

Hi Veronica, Have you booked a package holiday or flight only and did you book online or in a shop?

    • Sue says: 17/06/2012 at 14:12

good luck. hope you get sorted out. ive never known a firm like it. i was told to take the booking number hand written to the airport and they would let me on, that was the shops answer.

      • Hollie @Thomson says: 18/06/2012 at 10:28

Hi Sue, I’ve sent you an email regarding your comment.

  35. Wayne Hodgson says: 13/06/2012 at 21:06

Hi I have received an e-mail to inform me that I need to download and print my e-ticket, however when I log in I cannot find a link to my e-ticket??
    Can you please help!

    • Rhiannon@Thomson says: 14/06/2012 at 11:14

Hi Wayne, When you log into ‘My Thomson’ there’s a tab on the left hand side which says ‘download my tickets’. You can also click the ‘print now’ button in the email we’ve sent which is allow you to download a pdf printable version. If you have any further problems, you can just print the email as this will be accepted at check-in. I hope that helps.
